What is awarded?

Created to assist beginning periodontal educators in launching their career, one payment of $10,000 is awarded in the fourth quarter of the year after the AAP Annual Meeting. The award should be considered a supplement to any salary, stipend or research support.

What are the qualifications?

A strong interest in periodontal education is the primary qualification. In addition, the selected candidates must demonstrate excellent character, integrity, a record of academic and personal achievements, and an aptitude for teaching and research.

  • Award candidates must be in their third year of a nonmilitary accredited periodontal post-doctoral training program in the United States as of the application deadline, and intend to pursue a career in full-time periodontal teaching and research in the United States.


  • The award is not to be used to replace support that would have normally been provided by the recipient's institution.
