Overview:

Accelerate Program: Students

Put your talent to work with an organization that needs it.

How it Works:

  • A student, a supervising professor, and a partner organization develop a research project
  • Applicants submit a proposal via a Mitacs representative. 
  • Projects receive at least $15,000 in funding for each four-month internship.

Timelines

  • Apply anytime
  • Six- to eight-week peer review
  • College students can do two four-month internships, master’s students can do up to four four-month internships and PhD students can do up to eight
  • Internships start at four months

Expectations

  • Spend approximately 50% of the internship with the academic institution and 50% with the partner organization
  • Submit a final report and exit survey summarizing project results and experiences
  • Follow the Accelerate Code of Conduct

  • Who is eligible:
    • Full-time students at all Canadian colleges and full-time grad students at all Canadian universities
    • Canadian citizens, permanent residents, and international students over the age of 18
    • All academic disciplines
    • Eligible businesses and not-for-profit organizations operating in Canada
    • For-profit businesses operating outside of Canada
