American Turtle Observatory, a conservation and research organization based in Massachusetts, is excited to announce its 2nd annual grants program to support landscape conservation for North American freshwater turtles. We will consider small awards of $500 to $1000.

- Projects must advance the conservation of landscapes that are critical for the conservation of freshwater turtles in North America OR otherwise support long-term, field-based research or conservation.
- Conservation projects within the following focal areas will be given special consideration:
- Focal Landscapes- Examples:
- Northeastern United States and eastern Canada
- Gulf of Mexico Coastal Plain
- Sonoran Desert
- Sierra Madre Occidental
- Chihuahuan Desert
- Greater Antilles
- Widespread Species of Concern- Examples:
- Wood Turtle (Glyptemys insculpta)
- Blanding’s Turtle (Emydoidea blandingii)
- Spotted Turtle (Clemmys guttata)
- American Box Turtles (Terrapene spp.)
- Western Pond Turtle (Actinemys marmorata & A. pallida)
- Range-Restricted Species - Examples:
- Caribbean/Antillean sliders (Trachemys spp.)
- Gulf map turtles (Graptemys spp.)
- Mexican mud turtles (Kinosternon spp.)
- Headstarting projects are not eligible.
