Overview:

Association of Southeastern Biologists

ASB is the largest scientific professional organization in the Southeastern US with ~1400 members from 220 academic and 60 non-academic institutions .  Our mission to promote Biology through research and education, is supported each spring with an Annual Meeting where Faculty and students (both graduates and undergraduates) are welcomed to present their research in a friendly, collegial environment that encourages positive and supportive feedback.  We welcome scholarly and applied work from all disciplines of the biological sciences, including but not limited to, floristic & plant systematics, ichthyology, herpetology, entomology, invertebrate zoology, community & population ecology, evolutionary biology, conservation biology, microbiology, genetics, cell & molecular biology, Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) and scientific pedagogy.  Our members receive free online access to the quarterly SoutheasternBiology (SEB) – The Bulletin of the Association of Southeastern Biologists. They also receive a discounted subscription to the quarterly Southeastern Naturalist (SENA) and provisional free online access to the Eastern Biologist (EBIO), both of which are official journals of ASB.

Student Research Award

Sponsored by ASB Patron Martin Microscope – presented to a student member for outstanding research. Applications are due by close of ASB 2017 Abstract submission.

Eligibility:

  • Applicant must be a graduate or undergraduate student at the time of presentation, or graduated within 6 months prior to the presentation.
  • Presented to a student member for outstanding research.
  • A written manuscript or publication (published after the previous ASB annual meeting, but not prior) and an oral presentation at the annual meeting are required.
  • The manuscript must be completed within the two-year period prior to the award submission deadline.

You must be a member of this organization to apply for this award - become a member. Only members of the ASB are eligible and the recipient of the award must be present at the Annual ASB Awards Banquet to receive the award.
