Gwen Bowen, known as "Miss B," was a dancer in her youth and went on to found her own dance studio near her home in Denver's Washington Park neighborhood. For nearly five decades Miss B taught young girls and boys to dance. As she neared the end of her life she asked several of her dear friends to help her as she used her estate to endow the Bowen Family Performing Arts Fund at The Denver Foundation. Each year, starting in 2013, grants have helped low-income children learn to dance, act, and sing, with all the creativity and zest for life that comes through these opportunities. Through her legacy, Miss B will continue to help young people experience the joy of performing for generations to come.
The mission of the fund is to support performing arts programs for underprivileged elementary and middle school youth.
