Overview:

Mission

The fund’s mission is to promote conservation and hunting, fishing, camping, boating and other outdoor sporting and recreational activities. The Fund intends to further this mission, in part, through the provision of funding and financial support to those organizations which further these purposes.

Our Pillars

Our support falls into four categories consisting of advocacy, education, conservation and helping other

  • Advocacy: Protecting the outdoor lifestyle and our right to bear arms, hunt, fish and trap.
  • Education: Teaching the next generation of hunters, anglers, campers and recreational shooters
  • Conservation: Improving habitat with sound conservation methods to ensure future generations can enjoy hunting and fishing.
  • Helping others: Providing new experiences or assisting sick, disabled or underprivileged persons through hunting, fishing, camping or recreational shooting experiences.

Core Activities

Our goal is to ensure future generations can enjoy the activities of hunting, fishing, camping and recreational shooting. Efforts that focus on the recruitment, retention and re-activation of hunters, anglers, campers and recreational shooters are priority.

Hunting and Shooting

The Cabela’s Outdoor Fund has an interest in programs that recruit, retain and re-activate hunters and recreational shooting enthusiasts.

Priority will be given to efforts that focus on non-traditional and novice participants in these areas:

  • Hands-on training opportunities
  • Self-learning tools
  • Mentor networks and programs

These priority areas are taken from the National Hunting and Shooting Sports Action Plan. Individuals wishing to submit proposals under the hunting or recreational shooting areas are encouraged to read this plan at the Council to Advance Hunting and the Shooting Sports website.

Fishing

The Cabela’s Outdoor Fund has an interest in programs that recruit, retain and re-activate anglers.

Priority will be given to efforts that focus on non-traditional and novice participants in these areas:

  • Provide skills and social support
  • Increase diversity of participants

Camping

The Cabela’s Outdoor Fund has an interest in programs that recruit, retain and re-activate campers.

Priority will be given to efforts that focus on non-traditional and novice participants in these areas:

  • Provide skills and social support
  • Connect people to nature and increase appreciation for conservation
  • Use camping to build relationships and promote healthy lifestyles

Eligibility:

  • The Fund is permitted to make a grant to an organization that is not described in Section 501(c)(3) or 501(c)(4) of the Internal Revenue Code (e.g., a for-profit corporation) to perform activities that further the Fund’s purposes consistent with its status as an exempt 501(c)(4) social welfare organization.

Ineligibility:

  • Ineligible applicants:
    • Individuals, nor
    • Organizations and programs designed to elect candidates to public office.
