Overview:

The mission of the California Native Plant Society (CNPS) is to increase the understanding and appreciation of California’s native plants and to conserve them and their natural habitats through education, science, advocacy, horticulture, and land stewardship. The CNPS - Shasta Chapter is the local society serving Shasta, Lassen, Modoc, Trinity, and Siskiyou Counties whose members strive to support the overall mission of CNPS.

One of the ways in which the Shasta Chapter supports the CNPS mission to increase the understanding and appreciation of California’s native plants is through the Oak Tree Grant Program (OTGP).

One objective of the OTGP is for the general public, young and old, to gain better awareness of California native plants and native plant habitats. This better awareness can come about through:

  • Garden projects
  • Landscaping projects
  • Nature walks
  • Library projects
  • General plant studies

Eligibility:

  • Grant application are made available to the general public of whom are located within the counties served by the Shasta Chapter.
  • Oak Tree Grants are monetary and/or material awards given to individuals for these projects, walks, or studies. 
  • A grant application can be submitted at any time of the year.
  • Awarded grant monies can be used for purchase of native plants, gardening tools, gardening irrigation equipment, native plant books, native plant posters, native plant pictures, field trip supplies, field guides, or other items as approved by the grant application review committee.
