The Community Foundation of Monroe County is a nonprofit organization established to meet the current and future needs of our local community. We offer you all the tax advantages of charitable giving, the long-term benefits of endowment funding, and the ability to establish a legacy fund in the name of your family or a loved one.

The mission of the Community Foundation of Monroe County is to enhance the quality of life of the citizens of Monroe County, through permanent endowments by Identifying and addressing current and anticipated community needs and Raising, managing and distributing the funds for charitable purposes.

The Community Foundation of Monroe County takes pride in our ability to positively affect unique situations throughout our local community. Our Trustees are charged with the responsibility to understand the community’s needs and to initiate action to fulfill them.

Each member of the Board of Trustees must work to achieve the goal of the Foundation to improve the cultural, economic, educational and environmental quality of life within Monroe County, Michigan.

  • Unless otherwise specified in the original fund agreement, the Community Foundation awards grants only to charitable programs and organizations which benefit the people of Monroe County, Michigan.
  • The Foundation will award grants only to grant seekers which do not discriminate as to age, race, religion, sex or national origins.


  • Special consideration will be given to proposals offering innovative solutions to community problems which stimulate the collaborative efforts of various community organizations and having broad community support and involvement.


  • The Community Foundation of Monroe County makes every effort to be flexible in trying to meet community needs, but the following areas will generally not be considered for funding:
    • Grants to individuals (except for scholarship programs);
    • Grants to political campaigns or campaigns for the purpose of influencing legislation;
    • Grants for sectarian religious purposes;
    • Grants to annual fund raising drives;
    • Grants to endowment campaigns;
    • Grants for the operational phases of established programs;
    • Grants for conferences or travel; nor
    • Grants for scholarly research.
  • At the present time, the Community Foundation of Monroe County does not make loans or multi-year grant commitments.
