Overview:

The COPIC Medical Foundation is dedicated to improving health care outcomes through the advancement of patient safety and quality improvement initiatives. The Foundation has provided more than $7 million in grant funding and scholarships since it was founded. In evaluating grant requests, we look for initiatives that will have a long-lasting impact and that are focused in one or more of the following areas:  

  • Communication—Improving communication between providers and teams, related to the delivery of care.
  • Outcomes—Reducing adverse outcomes through the implementation of best practices.
  • Performance—Enhancing health care providers’ performance through skill development and competency training. 
  • Innovation—Pilot programs that are built on innovation to improve the delivery of health care.  
  • Community—Dissemination of collaborative programs and projects whose outcomes have shown a positive impact in improving patient safety and quality improvement.

Eligibility:

  • Organizations seeking funding must qualify as exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
  • Applications are accepted from states in which we provide medical liability insurance: 
    • CO, IA, WI, MN, OK, WY
  • We look for collaborative grants when the requested amount is significant (above $75,000).

Ineligibility:

  •  COPIC Medical Foundation does not provide general operating support. 
  • We do not fund bricks and motor, capital campaigns, operating costs, EHR related costs, or equipment
    • There are some exceptions when it comes to equipment.
