The small grants fund is designed to provide funding for existing long-term ecological experiments, including:
Consumables required to establish a discrete experiment at or associated with an existing long-term ecological experimental site.
Support for researchers to facilitate extraordinary work at an existing experiment (e.g. support visiting scientists or students or facilitate public engagement).
Support for researchers to visit or to facilitate comparative studies between existing long-term ecological experiments.
Applications are assessed using the following criteria:
Scientific case and added value of the proposed work
Wider promotion of the experiment and potential for attracting international collaborators and additional funding
Justification of resource

To be eligible for an ECT grant:
- All work must be undertaken on a long-term experiment (LTE) such those that are currently on the ECT register, please click here for a list of eligible sites.
- Grants are provided to fund research on long-term experiments and to cover travel costs associated with communicating scientific findings.
- The ECT also provides funds to undertake essential, stop-gap maintenance at LTEs.
- Priority will be given to applications made for long-term ecological experiments older than ten years. You may wish to contact us to discuss your application if your experiment has been running for a shorter period.
