The small grants fund is designed to provide funding for existing long-term ecological experiments, including:

  • Consumables required to establish a discrete experiment at or associated with an existing long-term ecological experimental site.

  • Support for researchers to facilitate extraordinary work at an existing experiment (e.g. support visiting scientists or students or facilitate public engagement).

  • Support for researchers to visit or to facilitate comparative studies between existing long-term ecological experiments.

Applications are assessed using the following criteria:

  • Scientific case and added value of the proposed work

  • Wider promotion of the experiment and potential for attracting international collaborators and additional funding

  • Justification of resource

You can learn more about this opportunity by visiting the funder's website.

To be eligible for an ECT grant:

  • All work must be undertaken on a long-term experiment (LTE) such those that are currently on the ECT register, please click here for a list of eligible sites
  • Grants are provided to fund research on long-term experiments and to cover travel costs associated with communicating scientific findings.
  • The ECT also provides funds to undertake essential, stop-gap maintenance at LTEs.

  • Priority will be given to applications made for long-term ecological experiments older than ten years. You may wish to contact us to discuss your application if your experiment has been running for a shorter period.
