Overview:

The Albemarle Foundation

Developing and nurturing a culture that promotes the philanthropic efforts of our employees is a top commitment for Albemarle. 10 years ago, the Albemarle Foundation, an endowed 501(c)3 private foundation, was launched as a means to power the giving potential of our employees, enabling them to create lasting value for our communities and our world.

At the Albemarle Foundation, we believe in the potential of every community to flourish. Strengthening our communities by enhancing the quality of life of our employees, customers and neighbors through charitable giving, academic scholarships and volunteerism is one of our most important responsibilities. Our financial contributions focus on key sustainability and social causes: wellness, green energy and conservation, STEM education and veteran support. As individuals, and collectively as a global company, we work passionately each day to make a profound impact. To date, we have granted over $25 million into the communities in which we live and operate. Together we’re striving to make our communities even more prosperous, healthy and vibrant – simply put, we are Growing the Good.

Albemarle and our employees and retirees have long shared a rich history of financial generosity and enthusiastic volunteerism. In 2007, to continue our focus on supporting sustainable communities, Albemarle created the Albemarle Foundation®, an endowed 501(c)(3) entity that serves as the primary source and mechanism for our philanthropic giving.

Since its beginning, the Foundation has delivered over $25 million to more than 200 deserving agencies in locations where our employees live and operate. The Albemarle Foundation's strength lies with the overwhelming support of the employees of Albemarle. Our commitment to Grow the Good in the communities in which we live and operate and our dedication to making a difference takes center stage in the programs offered by the Foundation. The Albemarle Foundation has been launched at all of our U.S. sites and is currently being introduced to our locations outside of the U.S. through our efforts around International Disaster Relief, thus keeping our employees engaged both domestically and internationally. Plans to develop even larger overseas philanthropic efforts are underway.

Focus Areas

The Foundation Grant Program provides direct funding to local 501(c)(3) organizations engaged in at least one of these areas:

Future Workforce and Education

Education is a cornerstone of the American Dream. Skills and knowledge are the tickets to self-sufficiency, personal fulfillment and civic participation. Strong educational outcomes lead to strong democratic, economical and social systems. The Albemarle Foundation recognizes the important skills obtained from a solid science foundation, including critical thinking, analyzing data and as a change agent. The goal is to strengthen and improve educational opportunities in the areas of technology and science

Social and Health Services

It is critically important to support programs and organizations that meet the community’s basic needs. By enhancing the quality of life for people in our community, they are more empowered to achieve personal growth, development and overall success, individually and beyond. Funds are used effectively and efficiently to relieve distress in the community and to help individuals and families overcome barriers to achieving their potential as members of the community. The Council addresses and determines efforts and funding on five basic areas of human services:

  • Building Healthy Communities
  • Investing in Our Youth
  • Meeting Basic Needs
  • Strengthening Lives
  • Striding Toward Independence

Cultural Resources and Advocacy

The arts stimulate a community to explore values and ideals. Similar to science and technology, the arts emphasize imagination and creativity. The Albemarle Foundation is a supporter of programs designed to integrate science and the arts and as an advocate of arts education. The goal is to provide opportunities for artistic, community education and specific experiences to the people in our community through funding arts education, jobs, programs, and events. The Council addresses and determines efforts and funding on the basis of applications submitted and community impact.

The Foundation board and local site councils approve all grants.
