ACU Titular Fellowships 

ACU Titular Fellowships, funded by the Association of Commonwealth Universities' Development Fellowships Fund, aim to enable the universities of the Commonwealth to develop the human resources of their institutions and countries through the interchange of people, knowledge, skills and technologies.

Subject areas

Awarded for any of the priority subject areas:

  • Education
  • Health and related social sciences
  • Information technology
  • Information management
  • STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) subjects
  • Sustainable development
  • University development and management

Value of Fellowship

Up to 5000 GBP and intended to cover:

  • international economy return airfare and other travel costs
  • medical insurance and visa fees
  • board and lodging fees
  • research costs

  • Applicants must be professional or academic staff of, or a nominee of, an ACU member university in Canada.
  • The Fellowship:

    • Tenable in any Commonwealth country other than Canada.
    • Tenable either at an ACU member university or in industry, commerce or public service.
    • Those working in universities may hold a Fellowship in either another ACU member university abroad or in industry, commerce or public service abroad;
    • Those working in industry, commerce or public service can hold a Fellowship only at an ACU member university abroad.

    • The tenure of the fellowship must be for a period of less than six months, and travel must be completed by 1 August the year following application.


  • Fellowships are not intended for degree courses, or for immediately postdoctoral programmes.
  • The ACU cannot arrange Fellows’ attachments, travel or accommodation, nor can it work out itineraries for them.
  • Applicants should be aware that Titular Fellowships allow for small scale conference or course attendance within a wider fellowship but that applications will not be considered where the primary or sole purpose is the attendance of the applicant at a conference or course.
