The Harris and Eliza Kempner Fund's mission is to further the vision and heritage of the Kempner family's commitment to philanthropy and sense of responsibility to society. 

The fund focuses on projects that use resources creatively to improve the quality of life, primarily within the greater Galveston area. Emphasis will be on improving the education, health and well-being of Galveston families. 

Primary Grant Program 

Grants to qualifying organizations in the greater Galveston area in the arts and historic preservation, community development, education, health, and human services.

Program Areas for this cycle: Health or Human Services

Health Services include: Medical Education, Medical Research, Mental Health Care, Public Health, Sports/Physical Activity, and Women's Health.

Human Services include: Improving Quality of Life, Mentoring Program, and Character Building.

  • Directors will consider one proposal per program area per year. 


  • Preferences:
    • Programs/projects that benefit the greater Galveston community seed money, operating funds, small capital needs, special projects partnering with other funding sources.

    • grants to non-USA based organizations
