The Houghton Trust is a company limited by guarantee, registered in England. It is also a Registered Charity.

The Houghton Trust (see History) was established with the primary objective of promoting the extension of knowledge in the field of Avian Pathology in all matters related to the: diseases of birds, including bacteriologyepizootiology, genetics immunology parasitology pathology toxicology and virology and the dissemination of such extended knowledge to the public.

  • Applicants will be no more than 35 years of age at the time of travelling.

  • In any three-year period, an applicant will be awarded no more than one grant.

  • Applicants may be of any nationality, and undertaking the following, in countries other than their own:

    • Attendance and participation in scientific meetings.

    • Short visits to appropriate laboratories for discussions and/or learning specific techniques (maximum duration 14 days).
    • Attendance at appropriate training courses (not exceeding 14 days).

    • It is an absolute requirement that the grant will be used in furtherance of research on avian diseases.


    •  Grants will not be awarded to employees of commercial companies.
