Founding Donor Letter of Intent

We, Joseph W. and Hon Mai Goodman, have contributed funds to the above-named foundation to improve the quality of life in the San Francisco Bay and Portland Oregon areas, primarily supporting: education for financially disadvantaged youth; health and human services to those who could not otherwise afford them; environmental education and improvement of the environment; opportunities for women and minorities to prepare for careers in science, engineering or health care; and support of the arts.

The JW & HM Goodman Foundation seeks to express its loyalty and commitment to those individuals and organizations that had a positive impact on the lives of the Grantors and to explore and support important and necessary programs that improve the quality of life.

Focus Areas

For the fall grant cycle, LOIs will be accepted in the following areas only:

Environment: All requests should include an eco-systems management approach. The Foundation supports science-based work to improve the Oregon and San Francisco Bay marine systems through protection, planning, and/or restoration.

  • Examples include:
    • studying and mitigating climate change and how it affects marine life, shoreline erosion, coastal flooding, and/or water pollution;
    • protecting and restoring tidal wetlands;
    • estuary restoration.

Health & Human Services: The Foundation supports programs or services that improve our elderly population's ability to live in their own home and community safely, independently, and comfortably.

  • Example programs or services might include:
    • meals or grocery shopping assistance, rides to appointments, home modifications, assistive technologies, etc.
