MFSF Grants

Our mission is to help build awareness around adolescent mental health issues, reducing the associated stigma, so we can better find treatment and cures. The McKenzie Foundation of San Francisco will focus its grant making on programs and projects that educate and raise public awareness about mental health issues, as well as support and enhance the lives of individuals who face mental health challenges. The Foundation will seek out organizations that offer outstanding research, education, treatment and support programs and projects in the broad field of mental health.

The McKenzie Foundation of San Francisco is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. 

McKenzie Foundation seeks to support organizations which treat or build awareness around adolescent mental health issues of youth aged 10-25, reducing the associated stigma and improving outcomes.

Focus Areas

Must address either:

Advocacy & Public Policy – Promoting cultural humility; systems change and reforming systems of care; encouraging peer advocacy; supporting networking building and convening .

Communications & Public Education – Promoting stigma reduction; improving media representations; informing specific audiences through development of materials, media, PR, branding, and use of technology; supporting mental health education among youth, media, health providers, and schools .

Prevention and early intervention – School-based mental health services, esp. in middle schools and high schools; trauma-informed care.

Eligibility:

  • Qualifying Organizations
    • Must be 501(c)(3) registered nonprofit organizations or have a fiscal sponsor with 501(c)(3) status 
    • Must operate in a metropolitan area within one or more counties in the San Francisco Bay Area – Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara

Ineligibility:

  • The Foundation does not fund:
    • Individual or volunteer-run initiatives 
    • Political candidates
    • Capital improvements or capital campaigns
    • Direct support of individuals
