The MUFG Union Bank Foundation, a nonprofit public benefit corporation, serves as an agent for charitable contributions made by MUFG Union Bank, N.A. Throughout its history, the Foundation has supported the bank's commitment to help meet the needs of the communities it serves. 

We strive to build a charitable contributions program that positions the MUFG Union Bank Foundation as an innovator of partnerships and a grant-maker intent on helping to create and sustain healthy communities. We proactively invest in the communities in which we operate, targeting resources to benefit low- to moderate-income populations. 

We believe that the MUFG Union Bank Foundation can achieve the greatest impact on the health of communities by targeting the following strategic funding categories:

Affordable housing: Organizations that develop and preserve housing that is affordable and accessible to low- and moderate-income populations and communities.Examples of programs include but are not limited to:

  • Predevelopment funding
  • Housing for targeted populations such as seniors, youths, farmworkers, and others with special needs
  • Emergency and transitional housing

Community economic development: Organizations that strengthen communities by improving social and economic well-being. Examples of programs include but are not limited to:

  • Economic and workforce development programs
  • Small-business development, including microenterprise and technical assistance programs
  • Financial literacy programs

Education: Educational and cultural institutions and programs that promote academic advancement, increase literacy, and foster imaginative minds. Examples of programs include but are not limited to:

  • Scholarships
  • Community arts education
  • Literacy programs
  • Parent engagement

Environment: Organizations that promote long-term environmental stewardship and sustainability. Examples of programs include but are not limited to:

  • Green buildings and jobs
  • Environmental education
  • Environmental advocacy
  • Open-space preservation and rehabilitation

Human services: Organizations that help individuals and communities overcome barriers that prevent them from living independent and sustainable lives. Examples of programs include but are not limited to:

  • Intervention and prevention programs for at-risk populations
  • Support services that assist with the acquisition, retention, or improvement of life skills
  • Programs that provide access to food, shelter, and other basic necessities
