Organizational Capacity Building - Executive Transition & Strategic Restructuring

Executive Transition Grant

These grants support nonprofit organizations at the beginning of an executive transition process. The transition from one executive to the next can be an ideal opportunity for the Board of Directors and senior staff to review the organization’s mission, strategic position and direction; and to clarify what skills and qualities it needs in a new Executive Director (ED).

The transition process should be well thought out, communicated appropriately to internal and external audiences, and involve both the Board and staff. Once an organization has hired its new Executive Director, it is no longer eligible for this program.

Strategic Restructuring Grant

These grants are for restructuring or partnership efforts between nonprofits seeking to achieve their missions in more effective and efficient ways. This may take the form of back-office consolidation or a new parent/subsidiary organization. Strategic restructuring/partnerships may involve the sharing of decision-making and possibly governance; mutual commitment for the foreseeable future; integration of organizational systems, structures or programs, and possibly, even the dissolution of an organization(s). These grants support the information gathering or negotiation phase of a restructuring that occurs after the boards of both organizations have comitted to negotiation, but before the actual restructuring has taken place.
