PetSmart Charities® and PetSmart Charities® of Canada are nonprofit animal welfare organizations that save the lives of homeless pets. More than 400,000 dogs and cats find homes each year through our adoption program in all PetSmart® stores and our sponsored adoption events. 

PetSmart Charities: Enhancing The Quality Of Life Through Pets Grant

We believe in the healing power of unconditional love. That's why we fund programs that promote the human-animal bond and make animal-assisted therapy accessible to those who need it most.

Grant awards will support programs with a strong therapeutic component to train and equip pets to make a difference in the lives of people.

Acceptable grant application considerations: 

  • Animal assisted therapy programs
  • Service animal programs for people with disabilities or veterans
  • Prison inmate dog training programs

Eligibility:

  • PetSmart Charities® funds:
    • 501(c)(3) public charities in the U.S. with at least 1 full year of financial records. 
    • Registered charities in Canada with at least 1 full year of financial records.
    • Cities or counties with animal care and control budgets
    • Nonprofit educational institutions
    • Tribal authorities.

Ineligibility:

  • We do not fund:
    • Individuals
    • Private foundations
    • Organizations outside the U.S. and Canada.
  • We cannot fund private non-operating foundations.
  • Unacceptable grant application considerations: 
    • Working dog programs such as police k-9 units, search and rescue, bomb sniffing, and drug sniffing dogs
    • Equine therapy
    • Requests for infrastructure or vehicles over $100,000
