Overview:

The Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium’s Science and Conservation Program conducts progressive and innovative projects while engaging and supporting stakeholders on wildlife conservation directives. By developing novel approaches to pressing issues, the program continues to successfully incorporate local communities into long-term sustainability of critical conservation efforts.

PPG Conservation and Sustainability Fund

The PPG Conservation and Sustainability Fund is a grant program of the Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium, awarding grants between $1,000 and $3,000 to conservation-oriented projects. Over the past decade the PPG Conservation and Sustainability Fund has supported over 204 projects in 56 countries.

What We Do Fund:
We particularly encourage field studies and cross-disciplinary approaches to conservation, but we will consider a wide variety of projects. Those who wish to conduct a project outside of the United States must present evidence of strong local involvement.

  • The principal investigator must be associated with a recognized institution (accredited zoo, academic institution, conservation or non-profit organization).

  • What We Do Not Fund:
    • Visitor surveys;
    • Husbandry projects;
    • Training (except for foreign researchers);
    • Travel (except to bring foreign researchers to meetings);
    • Organizational overheard costs; and
    • Salaries/stipends (except for locally hired support staff in non-industrialized countries).
