About this funder:
Montana Community Foundation
The Montana Community Foundation is a nonprofit community foundation that manages and invests charitable funds for individuals, families, businesses and other nonprofit organizations. Our mission is to cultivate a culture of giving so Montana communities can flourish. Founded in 1988, the community foundation has more than $80 million in assets under management and administers more than 900 planned gifts and philanthropic funds that make grants to charitable organizations and causes across the state. We are a center for philanthropy in Montana, working with donors, charitable organizations and communities to provide simple and effective ways to give back to Montana.
Tobacco Valley Community Foundation Grant
The Tobacco County Community Foundation provides philanthropic services to the Lincoln Electric service area (West Kootenai, Eureka, Rexford, Trego, Fortine, Stryker).
The TVCF is a steward through which private assets entrusted to us by donors are invested to meet the challenges of contemporary life. We are committed to respecting the trust and intent of our donors, while maintaining our integrity and responsiveness as a community foundation.
We seek to protect and enhance the unique resources of the Tobacco Valley, its diversity of culture, its richness of artistic support for area citizens and the beauty and quality of its land, air and water—so that these resources may be enjoyed now and in the future.
We are committed to equality of opportunity and justice for all citizens. We seek to enhance human dignity by providing support for area citizens to participate actively in determining the course of their lives and life of their community. Investing in the future of our communities through a permanent endowment.
The TVCF was established and a Board formed in September 2005. The TVCF’s Board is comprised of local citizens interested in promoting and enabling the many nonprofit organizations located in this community to further grow in providing services to the community through grants from our Foundation. Being a young Foundation, our efforts were helped tremendously by Lincoln Electric through their transferring in excess of $30,000 to TVCF of funds they had in an account in MCF. Their Board had the same goal as TVCF for these funds, to promote the growth of nonprofits in the Tobacco Valley.
TVCF is entering its second year and thus far has given out four grants and will meet matching fund challenge from MCF by raising $5,000.
The TVCF has given four grants thus far, the West Kootenai and Fortine/Trego/Stryker Volunteer Fire Companies, Can-Am Rescue Service and Eureka Volunteer Ambulance Service. One of these recipients, the West Kootenai Volunteer Fire Company, is in a very remote area, making it difficult to fight fires. They, along with the other grant recipients, were very grateful for our help as they have just selected a site for their future fire station. The building of this station will only be accomplished by various grants and donations of both labor and money from local residents. On the day of their receiving the grant money, they wanted to proudly show everyone the site of their future fire station with a piece of their firefighting equipment. They are an example of the exuberance shown by volunteers in the community and of their appreciation of funds received.

- How To Receive
- Our grants are for use in the greater Tobacco Valley for nonprofit organizations, i.e., community services such as fire companies, ambulance services, after school programs, art and culture programs, et cetera. Our first grants were of $200 to $250 but as our funds grow, we are endeavoring to give $500 minimum grants to an organization.
