Overview:

Union Benevolent Association Grants

The Union Benevolent Association makes grants to serve people in need within Philadelphia. We fund projects that support low-income individuals and communities, people with disabilities, vulnerable populations, and people who are disenfranchised. We prioritize support for projects that serve seniors/elderly or children/youth and are specifically interested in combating poverty, increasing employment, furthering education, and improving health. However, UBA will consider proposals which uniquely address issues affecting the priority populations described above.

Types of Funding

​General Operating Support:

Only organizations with operating budgets under $500,000 are eligible to apply. Grant ranges $1,000 – $5,000. 

Project Support:

Priority will be given to organizations with operating budgets below $1 million. Grant ranges $1,000 – $5,000. ​

Micro-grants:

Organizations may apply for grants below $1,000 for small projects. Priority will be given to organizations with operating budgets below $250,000.

Eligibility:

  • Organization may only submit one proposal per calendar year, whether or not they receive an award.
  • The Union Benevolent Association: 
    • Only makes grants to nonprofit organizations recognized under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Small, new and/or grassroots efforts may be eligible if they partner with a recognized 501(c)(3) organization acting as a fiscal sponsor
    • Only makes grants to organizations that serve people within Philadelphia
    • Will only fund an organization for three out of the past five years. 

Ineligibility:

  • The Union Benevolent Association:
    • Does not make grants to individuals.
    • Does not make grants to support capital renovations, major building campaigns or endowments.
