NOTE: Agencies who have not previously applied for a YWHA grant (new applicants) should submit their grant applications by August 1; new applications postmarked after August 1 will not be accepted.

Returning applicants should submit no later than September 1; applications postmarked after September 1 will not be accepted. 

Our Mission

The Young Woman’s Home was established in 1877 to protect, elevate and encourage young women in Detroit. Today, the Young Woman’s Home Association advances this same mission by providing grants to non-profit agencies serving women and children primarily in Wayne County, Michigan through education, provision of basic needs and cultural enrichment programs.

Generally, grant requests up to $10,000 will be considered, with preference given to projects in the following areas:

  • Education (including job training, literacy, tutoring, etc.)
  • Basic Needs (food, clothing, emergency shelter, etc.)
  • Cultural enrichment programs

Eligibility:

  • YWHA awards grants to nonprofit agencies that provide programs for women and children primarily in Wayne County, Michigan.

Preferences:

  • Preference will be given to projects in the following areas:

    • Basic Needs (food, clothing, emergency shelter)
    • Cultural enrichment programs

Ineligibility:

  • General operating expenses, fund-raising campaigns, capital improvements, requests from individuals, scholarships and/or start-up agencies are generally not considered.
