The Resident Teacher Award recognizes teaching contributions by residents. Each family medicine residency program can give this award annually to the resident who has best demonstrated interest in and commitment to family medicine education.

STFM Research Paper of the Year Award
The STFM Research Paper of the Year Award recognizes a research paper published in a peer-reviewed journal the previous July 1 through June 30. The first author must be an STFM member. The STFM Research Committee bases the award selection on the quality of the research and its potential impact. The winning paper will be presented at the STFM Annual Spring Conference. The Kansas Department of Commerce is committed to helping individuals, businesses and communities achieve prosperity in Kansas. One of the ways it accomplishes this mission is by providing financial assistance and partnership support to further identified goals. Most grants call for local matches and other required stipulations that vary by project. Below are the funding opportunities Commerce offers on an annual basis. Recognizing the value that rural communities add to the culture of our state, Commerce launched this new grant program to support small-scale quality of place projects that create quick, meaningful results in rural communities under 5,000 residents, that have not received Commerce funding since 2019. Projects may range from park upgrades and downtown beautification to murals, signage, and small infrastructure improvements. Communities have used funding for playground equipment, benches and public seating, new sidewalks and walking trails, welcome and wayfinding signs, fresh paint on downtown buildings, landscaping, bike racks, and even emergency helicopter pads.

STFM Project Fund
The Society of Teachers of Family Medicine (STFM) Project Fund encourages STFM Collaboratives and Special Project Teams to plan, develop, implement, evaluate, and disseminate findings from educationally-related scholarly projects. The outcomes of projects supported through the STFM Project Fund should benefit members, the STFM, and the discipline of family medicine. The project should also provide students, residents and new faculty an opportunity to participate in a significant way in a scholarly project that exposes them to STFM.The STFM Project Fund is coordinated by the STFM Foundation Executive Committee and funded through the STFM Foundation.
A project may be funded for 1 or 2 years at one of the two levels below:
Proposals at either funding level must have matching in-kind contributions for personnel (eg, faculty and/or staff), equipment, and/or supplies. Any unspent dollars from projects must be returned to the STFM Foundation.

STFM New Faculty Scholars Program
The STFM New Faculty Scholars Programs helps early career family medicine faculty develop leadership and scholarship skills. Scholars receive 1 year of the New Faculty Scholars coaching, learning, and networking opportunities with senior leadership and other new family medicine faculty.

These funds are to be used for conservation and/or environmental purposes. We prefer the projects support the overall theme of youth (K-12) in the fields of education or health care, however, we do have flexibility on projects that will have an indirect impact on youth. Categories for this grant include, but not limited to: water, air, hunting/fishing, forestry, outdoor education, energy, etc.

STFM Medical Editing Fellowship
The STFM Medical Editing Fellowship provides one faculty member a yearlong experience with the editorial and publishing teams at Family Medicine. Through this part-time, virtual fellowship, early or mid-career faculty receive coaching and hands-on experience to improve their skills in writing, reviewing, and editing scientific papers. The fellowship begins in May. STFM’s Medical Editing Fellowship provides new faculty with hands-on experience at the Family Medicine journal.

The award recognizes a broad interpretation of innovative family medicine programs to include innovative residency programs, clerkships, services, curricula, or other activities that have had a significant, positive impact on family medicine education.

Bruce Culley and Linda Larkins Scholarship Fund
This scholarship fund supports students who graduated from a Northland-area school district—Liberty, North Kansas City, or Park Hill—and plan to attend Metropolitan Community College, with preference given to those enrolling at the Maple Woods campus. Eligible applicants should have an average or above-average GPA of 2.5 or higher, demonstrate perseverance in overcoming personal or economic challenges, and believe in the value of hard work as a pathway to upward mobility. The scholarship provides a $3,600 award to help students pursue their postsecondary education at MCC.

Bright Lights Scholarship
The Bright Lights Scholarship provides college financial assistance to students whose parents serve as leaders in their communities, including law enforcement officers, firefighters, and clergy. Eligible applicants must be the child of a qualifying community servant, demonstrate financial need, and be enrolled or planning to enroll full time at a two- or four-year college or university. Recipients are required to maintain a minimum cumulative college GPA of 2.75 and provide proof of full-time enrollment. The $2,000 scholarship is typically disbursed in equal payments prior to each semester or trimester and may be used for tuition, fees, textbooks, or required course-related materials.

Board of Public Utilities Scholarship Fund
The BPU Scholarship Program provides financial assistance to high school seniors and recent graduates from Wyandotte County who are pursuing postsecondary education in vocational, technical, or four-year degree programs, with an emphasis on STEM-related fields. Eligible applicants must be enrolled as a senior at a Wyandotte County high school during the application period or be a recent graduate within the past three months, and plan to enroll in an accredited vocational, technical, apprenticeship, or four-year degree program such as engineering, computer science, or environmental science. Scholarships may be awarded on a recurring basis for up to two years, provided recipients maintain a minimum 2.75 GPA. Awards are determined through a competitive review process administered via the Greater Kansas City Community Foundation, with consideration given to academic pathway, extracurricular involvement, and diversity principles. Award amounts total up to $5,000 for students attending four-year institutions and up to $3,000 for those attending two-year institutions or apprenticeship programs.
