This FOA is intended for proposals related to basic and applied research in the STEM categories, and not related to the development of a specific system or hardware procurement.The proposal submission process has two stages:I. Applicants are encouraged to submit a white paper first to Grants@NPS.edu, ; andII. Applicants must submit a full proposal through Grants.gov (do not submit white papers through Grants.gov, only full proposals)Applicants are encouraged to submit a White Paper in advance of a Full Proposal to minimize the labor and other costs associated with the production of detailed full proposals that have little chance of being selected for funding. Based on an assessment of the white papers, the responsible Research Program Officer will provide informal feedback notification to the prospective awardees to encourage or discourage submission proposals. The Research Program Officer may also, on occasion, provide feedback encouraging re-work to strengthen a proposal. White Papers may be submitted at any time during the open period of this FOA. A separate White Paper is required for each research proposal.

Scholarship eligibility requires students to attend an accredited 2 or 4 year public or private institution of higher learning. All scholarships are for full-time students, unless otherwise noted. Renewable awards are for 4 years of undergraduate study and cannot be used for post graduate coursework; all awards are paid directly to the school or may be used for book reimbursement.

Thomas S. Ritter Memorial Scholarship Fund

The purpose of this scholarship fund is to assist students who are attending or plan to attend a college or university and who have demonstrated a strong work ethic both inside and outside of the classroom.

W.R. "Bill" Asplund Scholarship

W.R. “Bill” Asplund (1932-2022) was a well-loved teacher in the Science Department at Wenatchee High School (WHS) from 1963 through 1987. He was a mentor to many students, instilling an appreciation for chemistry, scientific curiosity, and the natural world. He also introduced many to the outdoors as an advisor to the WHS Alpine Club, and later as an outdoor sports retailer in Wenatchee.

His childhood was harsh; he was homeless for a time. This gave him a life-long appreciation for those who helped him become a teacher and an advocate for wilderness conservation.

American Indian and Alaska Native undergraduate and graduate students in STEM or related fields can receive US $5,000 per year for full-time study at accredited U.S. institutions, including in Louisiana. Native Forward Scholars Fund supports degrees in environment, energy, cultural sustainability, and STEM that prepare students for the renewable energy workforce; tribal affiliation documentation is required.

Louisiana Indigenous STEM students pursuing full-time vocational or trade programs can access funding through the American Indian Science and Engineering Society, with scholarships of US $2,000. Eligible applicants must be AISES members enrolled at accredited institutions in fields such as welding, automotive or diesel technology, clean energy, IT, construction, or related areas.

Female high school seniors pursuing STEM or medical majors at accredited nonprofit colleges or vocational schools can apply for Erie County Community Foundation’s Zonta Club of Greater Sandusky High School STEM Scholarship Fund. Residents of Erie, Huron, or Ottawa counties in Ohio may benefit, including those interested in STEM education pathways similar to programs in Louisiana.

Louisiana American Indian and Alaska Native students pursuing full-time STEM degrees can access funding through Native Forward Scholars Fund, with awards ranging from US $100 - US $30,000 per academic year. This need-based scholarship supports undergraduate, graduate, and professional study in fields like engineering, life sciences, technology, environmental sciences, and related disciplines at accredited institutions across the U.S.

Louisiana STEM and arts-focused high school seniors can access funding through the Dr. Alice M. Hudder–Richard T. Molder Post-Secondary Scholarship Fund to pursue college or university studies. Administered by Erie Community Foundation, this need-based award supports Erie County students with a 3.0+ GPA planning majors in science, math, business, art, or music.

Graduating high school seniors pursuing STEM degrees at U.S. colleges, universities, or technical schools can receive US $10,000 for tuition and related educational costs, including students from Louisiana. AIAA Foundation and Club for the Future support STEM / STEAM education by offering this aerospace-focused scholarship plus professional mentoring for students facing financial need or other unique challenges.

AAUW branches and state organizations in Louisiana designing or running hands-on STEM programs for girls in grades K–12 can receive up to US $10,000 to expand and deepen their initiatives. American Association of University Women supports projects that build STEM skills and confidence, foster STEM identity, and connect girls with women mentors and role models.

Louisiana nonprofits and educational institutions offering STEM programs for girls in grades K–12 can access funding through American Association of University Women to run community-based STEM education projects. Grants up to Up to US $50,000 support hands-on learning, mentorship with women in STEM, family engagement, and confidence-building experiences, with a focus on historically underrepresented communities.

High-achieving graduating seniors pursuing STEM-related undergraduate studies can receive up to US $32,000 through the Carter Creech Scholarship, including students from Louisiana. Communities Foundation of Texas provides this support for Troy Buchanan High School seniors meeting strict GPA, ACT, class rank, honors/AP, and foreign language requirements at four-year colleges or universities.

Catholic high school seniors planning to major in chemistry or engineering can receive the Ralph M. Knight Scholarship to support freshman-year tuition at a four-year college. Focused on STEM education, Catholic Community Foundation invites eligible students, including those from Louisiana Catholic schools, to apply for this one-time US $5,000 award paid directly to their university.
