The MacDonald/Hjerpe Scholarship, offered by the Community Foundation of Greater New Britain, supports graduating seniors from New Britain, Plainville, and Farmington High Schools. Eligible applicants must demonstrate academic achievement with a minimum GPA of C+, exhibit financial need, and have clear educational goals. Preference is given to those pursuing careers in sciences, education, or human services and who will not receive substantial other scholarships. Scholarships

The Community Foundation of Carroll County supports more than 75 scholarships. These scholarships vary in the amounts they award and cover a wide variety of student interests. Qualifiers range from academic achievements, sports played, and community service performed, to 4-H and FFA involvement. While the majority are for graduating Carroll County high school seniors, there are several for students in college or technical school, and even opportunities for students attending private primary school.

The Helen M. Free Award for Public Outreach, established by the American Chemical Society, recognizes outstanding volunteer achievements in public outreach that enhance public appreciation for chemistry. Awardees, selected based on their advocacy, creativity, and impact, receive a crystal award and a $2,000 prize. Nominees must be ACS members whose volunteer efforts have significantly increased public awareness of chemistry's importance.
