Research Initiatives

The AGC Education and Research Foundation directly responded to needs identified by AGC members and our partners at the Associated Schools of Construction (ASC) and American Council for Construction Education (ACCE). The Robert L. Bowen Industry Residency Fund and the Klinger Case Study Fund provide construction faculty nationwide with the resources necessary to support tomorrow's constructors in the classroom.

Robert L. Bowen Industry Residency Program

Industry residencies are created through partnerships between an educational institution, an AGC contractor, and the AGC Education and Research Foundation. In total, 65 industry residents have been sponsored by the foundation since 2011.

Each educator spends several weeks on site with a construction company with the intent of gaining field experience to bring back to their students. All educators are supported equally by the AGC Education and Research Foundation, their host AGC member company, and their institution. 

On the application, the faculty member must: identify the specific skills and knowledge to be gained during the residency; identify an AGC construction firm or affiliated organization that has agreed to provide the requested professional work experience and financial support; and obtain support from the faculty member's institution. The selected faculty member(s) will document the residency experience in a post-residency report describing the experiences, learning outcomes and the value the residency will bring to his/her classroom.

Participating in this program is an investment in the future of the construction industry, providing valuable current professional experience that can be shared in the classroom. Professional residencies also benefit the host company by providing quality help on projects and if desired, feedback on management processes. 

Literary Arts Fund

The Literary Arts Fund will award at least $50 million in grants to the nonprofit literary arts field over the next five years, concluding in 2031.

With a short timeline, the fund’s grantmaking has a strategic focus on the areas of the literary arts ecosystem where it determined it could have the greatest impact— that is: supporting independent U.S.-based literary arts nonprofits whose primary mission is directly serving adult writers of creative nonfiction, fiction, poetry, and hybrid works in making their artistic work and sharing it with readers outside of school and academic settings. Background

The Literary Arts Fund was established in 2025 to dramatically increase funding for and the visibility of the nonprofit literary arts field toward ensuring a healthy and more robust U.S. literary culture in support of creative writers. The fund will award at least $10 million in grants to the nonprofit literary arts field in each of the next five years, concluding in 2031. AGC Graduate Scholarships

The AGC Education and Research Foundation offers undergraduate and graduate level scholarships to students enrolled in ABET , ACCE and some ATMAE-accredited construction management or construction related engineering programs.

The Allegheny County Bar Foundation (ACBF) addresses the justice gap in Allegheny County by providing grants to innovative organizations supporting families in need. In 2022, ACBF awarded $60,000 to six legal aid programs focused on critical issues such as refugee services and tenant rights. The grant process includes a Letter of Inquiry followed by in-person pitches to ACBF Fellows, fostering creative proposals aimed at enhancing legal representation for underserved communities.

The Carl J. Niedzial Memorial Scholarship, established by the Connecticut Community Foundation in 1923, supports members of the CT State Police Credit Union and their immediate families, including grandchildren. As one of the largest scholarship providers in the Greater Waterbury and Litchfield Hills region, the foundation aims to help students achieve their college education dreams by addressing critical community issues and fostering equitable outcomes.

The Warehime Operational Grant supports non-profits addressing basic human needs through operational expenses. Offered by the J. William Warehime Foundation, grants range from $2,500 to $50,000 and can be applied for annually, with a minimum gap of 12 months between applications. The foundation aims to further Mr. Warehime's legacy of civic commitment. Eligible organizations include 501(c)3 non-profits, educational institutions, and government agencies, with funding capped at 10% of the organization's annual revenue.

The Illuminations Grant for Black Trans Women Visual Artists, a $10,000 annual grant, supports early-career Black trans women artists in the U.S. whose contributions to visual arts are often overlooked. Friedman Family Scholarship

The Friedman Family Scholarship was established in 1998. The award is available to graduating seniors in Taos and western Colfax counties for students pursuing advancement of higher education. The scholarship is available to those applying to 4 year colleges and universities as well as 2 year vocational/trade schools. The award is up to $ 8,000.00 paid out at $2,000 annually for up to four years if a 3.0 GPA is maintained.

The World Trade Center Scholarship in New Jersey provides financial support to dependent children and surviving spouses of residents who lost their lives in the September 11 attacks. Administered by HESAA, this scholarship covers tuition, fees, and other educational costs at eligible institutions. Applicants must be full-time students and maintain satisfactory academic progress. The award amount varies each year based on funding and need, ensuring that assistance is available to those who have lost financial support due to these tragic events.

Open to Stanislaus County employees and their children/step-children. Employee must work 24+ hours per week on a regular basis.

Barbara Hammerberg Memorial Scholarship Fund

Provides scholarships to students in Marquette and Delta Counties for post-secondary education. 

Distribution Process

• CFMC scholarship recipients will be contacted in June requesting student enrollment verification
• Scholarships can only be distributed once student’s information is received
• Scholarships will be distributed to the college/school/university indicated by student
• The scholarship must be used for tuition and fees required for the enrollment or attendance of the student at a qualifying educational institution; fees, books, supplies, and equipment required for courses of instruction at such an educational institution; and room and board, within the first semester of first year of students enrollment

The Weil Foundation provides grants to advance integrative medicine through education, research, and policy reform. Primarily aimed at non-profit healthcare organizations and medical schools, these grants support the development of educational programs in integrative medicine. Each grant is awarded for one year, with the possibility for recipients to apply for additional funding in subsequent years. The PCHF Capacity Building Mini-Grant Program is designed to support nonprofit organizations in the greater Phoenixville region. This program offers grants of up to $2,500 per year for training and educational initiatives that enhance governance, accountability, and sustainability. Eligible organizations must be 501(c)(3) nonprofits that operate within specific geographical boundaries and meet certain requirements, including a budget of less than $3 million and current or recent grant activity.

The Ronald and Wendy Smith Clinical Research Grant supports innovative studies in orthopaedic foot and ankle surgery. Funded by the American Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Society, it aims to enhance patient care through research that leads to practical applications. Applicants for this scholarship must be a female senior who is graduating from a New Jersey high school and a resident of Bergen or Hudson counties. Applicants are not necessarily required to be the top in the class, but must show outstanding potential, merit, and/or improvement. Scholarships are based on merit and unmet financial need.

This scholarship is awarded to a college-bound Black/African male who is a graduating high school senior from Trenton Public Schools. Students will have achieved a cumulative 2.7 GPA or better, as well as demonstrated community involvement and unmet financial need.
