The Spenser Flowers Memorial Scholarship Fund was established at The Pittsburgh Foundation to provide scholarships for traditional and non-traditional students to assist with expenses for college, university or trade school to any youth member or youth who participates in church senior high youth activities (or has participated within the past 7 years) of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Allison Park, Pennsylvania.

Excellence in Medicine Awards

The AMA Foundation’s Excellence in Medicine Awards honor physicians and medical advocates who exemplify the highest values of the profession—volunteerism, community engagement, leadership, and service to underserved populations. It honors those who demonstrate excellence in classroom engagement, innovative teaching practices, and mentorship. Open to nominations from all ranks, this award includes a plaque, a $500 cash prize, and a $750 travel allowance for the awards ceremony. The AEESP Master’s Thesis Awards recognize outstanding M.S. theses that advance environmental science and engineering. Each year, two exceptional theses are honored with a plaque and $500 for the student, alongside a plaque for the faculty advisor. Additionally, winners receive $750 for travel to the awards ceremony. Nominations are limited to one per faculty advisor, and the theses must be from the previous calendar year, emphasizing the importance of current and impactful research in the field.

The AEESP Outstanding Publication Award honors landmark papers in environmental engineering and science that have significantly influenced the field. It is awarded annually to living authors of eligible papers, with nominations made by non-authors. Recipients receive a plaque, a $500 cash prize, and a $750 travel allowance for the ceremony. Nominations must adhere to specific guidelines and are valid for three years. Previous winners are ineligible for re-nomination during this period.

The Charles R. O'Melia AEESP Distinguished Educator Award recognizes exceptional contributions to environmental engineering education. The 14th Quartermaster/Operation Desert Storm Scholarship Fund, established by The Pittsburgh Foundation, supports Westmoreland County High School students pursuing military careers or whose parents are veterans. Eligible applicants must maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0 and articulate the impact of military service on their family dynamics. This scholarship does not consider financial need, but applicants are encouraged to provide financial information. It aims to foster academic growth and honor military service within the community.

Southern California Kids to Parks Grants Program

National Park Trust is thrilled to offer the 2026 Southern California Kids to Parks Grants Program. Open to Title I schools (40% of students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch) based in the Southern California Edison service area (Map of Eligible Locations) for grades 3 through 12, this grant program provides classrooms with up to $1,500 for in-park experiences. While grant requests for all types of park visits are welcome, applicants are encouraged to consider trips to historical sites in honor of the celebration of our country's 250th birthday in 2026.

Funding can be used towards program fees, transportation costs, stewardship supplies, and any other materials needed for a robust learning experience.

This grant is designed to be student-driven, and student-teacher collaboration is a must. All applications must include a stewardship element and a park-themed educational component that focuses on either outdoor recreation and healthy lifestyles, environmental education/science, or history.

Teachers may submit the application on behalf of their class, but direct student involvement in the application is required.

The Edward J. Bouwer/AEESP Outstanding Doctoral Dissertation Award recognizes outstanding research by emerging scholars in environmental engineering and science. Karen R. Dobbs Music Fund

The Karen R. Dobbs Music Fund was established at The Pittsburgh Foundation to provide private lessons for two talented students in the Pittsburgh Public School System each year, one for flute and one for trumpet, who would not otherwise be able to afford such instruction.

American Physical Society

The American Physical Society is a nonprofit membership organization working to advance physics by fostering a vibrant, inclusive, and global community dedicated to science and society. APS represents more than 50,000 members, including physicists in academia, national laboratories, and industry in the United States and around the world.

APS Honors recognizes and celebrates the accomplishments of the global physics community. Guided by our core values, APS Honors encourages nominations that reflect the full range of talent, distinction, and experience in our field, and supports broad canvassing for professional achievement across diverse backgrounds, perspectives, and expertise.

John Dawson Award for Excellence in Plasma Physics Research

Recognizes a particular recent outstanding achievement in plasma physics research.

The award consists of $5,000, a certificate citing the contributions made by the recipient, and a travel reimbursement of up to $2,000 to attend the APS Division of Plasma Physics (DPP) meeting. Information on allowable travel expenses appears here.

In the case of multiple recipients, the stipend and travel reimbursement will be divided equally.

The recipient will receive a DPP meeting registration waiver. In the event of a team larger than five (5), DPP may cap the number of registration waivers.

It will be awarded annually.

Nominations will be considered for three review cycles provided the nominator re-certifies the nomination before the next deadline.

Prior to 2007, this award was originally named the Award for Excellence in Plasma Physics.

The John W. and Yvonne Y. Hsu Edmisten Scholarship, offered by the San Luis Obispo County Community Foundation, supports students pursuing Aeronautical Engineering or related fields. This scholarship is in memory of Dr. Julian Crocker, former Superintendent of San Luis Obispo County Schools and longtime educator. Scholarship awards support student pursuing community.
