For High School Seniors & Non Traditional Students who are beginning college more than one year after high school.

The Community Foundation of Wabash County offers a wide variety of post-secondary education scholarships to traditional, non-traditional, and graduate students. With nearly 70 different scholarship endowments created through the generosity of our donors, many students are eligible to apply.    

Blair and Marie Tate Scholarship Endowment

Through her will, Marie Tate honored the memory of her late husband, Blair Tate, by establishing this scholarship to assist deserving students of any Wabash County high school who have financial need. Mrs. Tate wanted to be sure that the scholarship was available to both students pursuing academic careers and those pursuing vocational training. The Tates had no children of their own, but through this scholarship, offered an inheritance to all students of Wabash County as if they were true heirs of a family estate.

The Margaret Ferris Scholarship for Hard of Hearing Students, established by Margaret Ferris, a dedicated teacher, supports hard of hearing students from Calumet, Outagamie, and Winnebago counties. It aims to assist graduating high school seniors pursuing higher education. This scholarship honors Margaret's impactful career and commitment to the deaf community, emphasizing aural/oral training over American Sign Language. By providing financial aid, it continues her legacy of fostering educational opportunities for hard of hearing individuals.

The Nicholas B. Ottaway Foundation's Community Impact Fund Grants aim to enhance community well-being by supporting 501(c)(3) organizations focused on underrepresented populations. Grants range from $3,000 to $20,000 and are intended for projects in areas like disaster relief and sexual health. First-time applicants must submit a letter of intent before applying. The foundation prioritizes projects in regions where its members live and work, ensuring local engagement and impact.

The NLN Edmund J. Y. Pajarillo Health Informatics and Innovation Scholarship offers up to $5,000 annually to support graduate students in health informatics. Whiting Scholarship, established by The Foundation for Enhancing Communities, supports graduating seniors from Central Dauphin High School and Central Dauphin East High School pursuing music or music education studies. Applicants must have a minimum 2.5 GPA, demonstrate community service and leadership, and show financial need. This scholarship honors Jill B. Whiting's legacy as a dedicated music volunteer and aims to foster artistic talent in the local community.

The LAMPS Bob Judd Memorial Scholarship Fund, established in 2021 by the Maine Community Foundation, honors the legacy of Robert L. Judd, a cherished member of Lubec. This annual $1,000 scholarship supports Washington County residents pursuing undergraduate or graduate degrees in music, continuing Bob's tradition of generosity towards students and local musicians. The Cushman Scholarship Fund, established by the Maine Community Foundation in 1983, offers renewable scholarships to residents of Hancock County pursuing post-secondary education in medical or Christian education fields. The Pillars Artist Fellowship, launched in 2021 by Pillars Fund in collaboration with Riz Ahmed’s Left Handed Films, aims to empower emerging screenwriters and directors from Muslim communities. The Leader Scholarship Fund, established by The Foundation for Enhancing Communities, supports students in HACC's LPN program from Cumberland, Dauphin, Lancaster, or York counties. It honors Governor George Leader, a champion for education and disabilities, and emphasizes financial need and a minimum GPA of 2.5. This initiative aims to empower future healthcare professionals while fostering community growth and equity in Pennsylvania.

The Richard M. Fisher Memorial Scholarship, offered by the San Luis Obispo County Community Foundation, supports students pursuing careers in construction trades and vocational fields. Established in memory of Richard Fisher, a dedicated public works inspector, this scholarship is open to high school seniors, undergraduates, and returning students. By providing vital financial assistance, the scholarship aims to empower local students to achieve their educational and career aspirations, fostering a brighter future for the community.

The National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) is launching a collaborative initiative aimed at exploring neurodegenerative mechanisms in Alzheimer’s disease-related dementias (ADRD). This program, termed 'Centers without Walls', encourages interdisciplinary teams to merge diverse expertise, utilizing cutting-edge technologies and clinical insights to uncover novel ADRD pathways. By fostering collaboration and data sharing, the initiative seeks to enhance understanding of ADRD complexities and support the development of innovative therapeutic strategies.

Ruth E. Owen Scholarship Fund

Russ Owen established the Ruth E. Owen Scholarship Fund in memory of his beloved wife. He met Ruthie during World War II when he was home on leave. The couple carried on a long-distance romance throughout the war. Ruthie lived in Pittsburgh and worked as a secretary and a professional singer. She performed on the Rege Cordic and Bill Cullen Show on WWSW and with a group called the Melody Guild.

Ruthie trained in New York for the Metropolitan Opera and considered moving there but, as fate would have it, she remained in Pittsburgh and married her beloved Russell. Russ’ hope for this scholarship is that students who are pursuing further education in music can achieve their dream.

The Institutional Training Programs to Advance Translational Research on Alzheimer's Disease and AD-Related Dementias aim to cultivate a diverse workforce skilled in translational research. This initiative supports predoctoral and postdoctoral researchers from various educational backgrounds, including data science and clinical research. By fostering interdisciplinary training, the program equips trainees with essential knowledge in disease biology and drug discovery, ultimately enhancing the research capabilities for Alzheimer's and related dementias.

The Colonel David Marcus Memorial Scholarship Award supports students from Burlington, Camden, or Gloucester Counties pursuing post-high school education, particularly in military programs. Established by the Jewish Community Foundation, this scholarship prioritizes candidates who embody Col. Marcus's ideals. Eligible applicants must be high school seniors and may apply for multiple awards. The fund has a strong community leadership background, managing over $35 million in assets to support educational initiatives.

CRST Wicozani Wiwokiaye Oyate Scholarship for Nursing

To provide financial support to Native American students pursuing a registered nursing degree.

For a Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe (CRST) member aiming to earn a nursing degree, if there are no eligible CRST candidates, the scholarship will be accessible to another tribal member. Proof of tribal enrollment is required for both applicants. This scholarship is available to students in their second through fifth years who have sustained a GPA of 2.0 or above. When applying for this scholarship, articulate how your nursing education will contribute to enhancing the health outcomes of Native American communities.

While the number and amount of scholarships may vary, maintaining eligibility is crucial, as failure to register full-time can result in loss of support. The Military-Civilian Charitable Foundation Scholarship aims to support children of active or retired military personnel in the San Antonio area by providing scholarships for higher education. Whitley County Retired Teachers’ Association Scholarship

Established by the Whitley County Retired Teachers’ Association to ensure students pursue the field of teaching, this scholarship is available to a graduating senior from any public high school in Whitley County who is planning to attend a 4-year college or university in pursuit of a Baccalaureate degree.

Purpose of Scholarship

To provide financial assistance to head-of-household, single parents for post-secondary education to help them improve their lives and those of their children.

Number and Size of Awards

Number of recipients and amounts vary; paid in one lump sum in the Fall and divided equally between the Fall and Spring semesters.

Donor Information

A former St. John Fisher College professor who understood and greatly admired the hard work and challenges of single-parent students created this scholarship to support their higher education endeavors and to improve their employability, their lives, and the lives of their children.

The Eviction Protection Grant Program (EPGP) aims to support low-income tenants facing eviction by offering competitive awards to around 16 nonprofit organizations and government entities. These grants will fund no-cost legal assistance, covering pretrial, trial, post-trial, and alternative dispute resolution services. The initiative, backed by the Department of Housing and Urban Development, is designed to ensure that vulnerable tenants have access to essential legal resources, ultimately reducing eviction rates and promoting housing stability.

The Pride Foundation Scholarship is designed to support LGBTQ+ students who demonstrate leadership in their communities and fields of study. Open to residents of Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, or Washington, applicants must pursue post-secondary education in the 2025-2026 school year. The scholarship prioritizes those facing systemic barriers, including discrimination and financial need, ensuring resources reach LGBTQ+ students who need them most.

The Jacques Parker and Marie Deguard Scholarship, offered by the Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation, supports high school seniors in the region pursuing higher education in visual arts or architecture. Scholarships are renewable for up to five years, covering costs for college, apprenticeships, or specialized courses. This initiative aims to promote economic mobility and provide opportunities for creativity, ensuring a lasting impact on students' lives in Berkshire, Columbia, northeast Dutchess, and northwest Litchfield counties.
