Chat Jones Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship is for a resident of Henderson County seeking further education in an accredited degree-granting college or university. The recipient must demonstrate financial challenges to attend an institution of higher learning. The applicant should show promise and be meeting passing grade requirements but may not be in the top of his or her class rank. Consideration will be given to an applicant with special needs connections (either personally or working with).

Armstrong County Community Foundation (The Community Foundation Serving the Heart of Western Pennsylvania)

In 1997 Merchants National Bank, an Armstrong County community bank, marked its 100th anniversary. The centennial celebration included a unique expression of gratitude to the community in the form of $100,000 to be used as a seed fund to initiate a community foundation for Armstrong County. The bank challenged the community to keep the principal balance of the endowed funds intact and spend only a portion of the interest earnings to ensure a lasting legacy.

The Armstrong County Community Foundation, a public nonprofit corporation,

Judy L. (Beveridge) Creel Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship is established to honor the memory of Gary and Judy (Beveridge) Creel of East Franklin Township, Armstrong County.

Gary, the son of Clarence and Hally (Sharpe) Creel, was employed in the surface coal stripping industry and then owned and operated a retail tire sales business until his retirement. At the time of his passing, Gary was in the process of getting a patent approved for a canine orthopedic support device.

Judy, the daughter of Floyd "Ernie" and Dorothy (Reesman) Beveridge, was employed in the banking industry. In retirement, Judy designed tombstones/grave markers for both humans and pets. Judy also was a published author having written three books.

Gary and Judy met in high school and shared 55 years of marriage. Life was busy with work, family, and church responsibilities, but both found time to be there for others in their moment of need. Whether it was offering their time, professional skills or personal resources, their compassion was shared authentically and altruistically.

It is the desire of children, Marci and Ryan, to establish this scholarship to continue their parents' legacy of ordinary people doing what they could to help others, simply because it was the right thing to do. Matthew 6:3-4; James 2:15-17

The Michael Jackson Scholarship, provided by the United Negro College Fund, offers up to $4,000 in financial assistance for Communication and Performing Arts students at UNCF-member colleges during the 2025-26 academic year. This one-time award aims to support students with financial needs, reflecting UNCF's commitment to enhancing minority education and fostering future leaders. Stanley’s Dream

Mission Statement

Stanley’s family created Stanley’s Dream to continue their son’s legacy, making his unfulfilled dream to attend college a reality for other students.

Stanley Edwards had a dream: his dream was to attend college. Unlike many 12-year olds, achieving his dream was complicated by the battle he was fighting against brain cancer. A gifted student and promising athlete, Stanley was diagnosed with a brain tumor at age 12. Despite unthinkable obstacles, Stanley persevered toward his dream. Stanley unfortunately passed away in 2002. In a tribute to this courageous young man, his family created Stanley’s Dream to continue his legacy. The number of recipients will vary each year.

This scholarship is for a college-bound student from a single-parent home. The applicant must

• have a minimum 3.0 GPA,
• have a community service background,
• demonstrate financial need,
• provide two character references, and
• demonstrate work ethic and ambition.

Patricia Alleva DeHaven Scholarship Fund

Mission Statement

The Patricia Alleva DeHaven Scholarship Fund was established by the late William Thomas “Bill” DeHaven to honor his late wife after her long fight with cancer. Patricia was deeply loved by those around her as a loving wife, mother, second-mother to many of her children’s friends and husband’s coworkers, grandmother, and friend. Patricia was a biochemist for Merk & Co. while tremendously cooking and feeding anyone who came into her home. She worked as a volunteer for crime victims, raised money for veterans, and devoted much time to her church, St. Monica in Berwyn. The Patricia Alleva DeHaven Scholarship Award is presented annually in honor and memory of Patricia Alleva DeHaven who believed deeply in the value of Catholic education.

The ASH-Roland B. Scott Award, presented by the American Society of Hematology, honors outstanding research on Sickle Cell Disease by a resident. This prestigious award includes a $16,000 honorarium, $2,000 for mentor research supplies, and $2,000 for travel to the annual meeting. It recognizes the legacy of Dr. Roland B. Scott, emphasizing the importance of innovative research in improving patient outcomes in hematology.

This scholarship is for needy and worthy students who are Henderson County residents, regardless of where they attend high school. Recipients must

• attend a four-year accredited college or university on a full-time basis.

The scholarship is renewable.

The Ida V. Holland Educational Scholarship, offered by the San Antonio Area Foundation, supports full-time students pursuing various degrees. Eligible candidates must be Bexar County residents facing financial challenges. The scholarship, renewable for up to three years, aims to assist parentless or low-income students, ensuring they receive the necessary educational funding to thrive. Elijah Endowment Fund

This scholarship is to support residents of Henderson County who show academic excellence and financial need. 

The Grossman-Sada Scholarship Fund, managed by the San Antonio Area Foundation, supports full-time college students engaged in international exchange programs between Mexico and the U.S. This scholarship covers the cost of attendance for students pursuing a Bachelor's degree in any field. Since 1964, the foundation has played a vital role in enhancing community life through various grants and scholarships, emphasizing meaningful contributions for future generations.

The Etta Gray Memorial Scholarship Program, established by the United Negro College Fund, aims to support students from Upstate South Carolina pursuing technical certification. This initiative honors Etta Gray's legacy and assists financially disadvantaged individuals by facilitating access to education at local technical colleges. Eligible applicants must maintain a 2.5 GPA, enroll full-time, and complete the FAFSA to demonstrate financial need. This program empowers young professionals to enhance their career prospects and income potential.

This scholarship is awarded to a student pursuing an education at an accredited institution.

The Leigh Carter Scholarship Fund, established by the Tennessee Chiropractic Association, honors Leigh Carter's dedication to learning. This scholarship provides financial support to full-time students pursuing chiropractic education at accredited colleges. Applicants must show a strong interest in health care, and preference is given to Tennessee residents. Dan Barber/Western Auto Scholarship

Each Henderson County Public High School may nominate one male and one female graduating senior. The nominee must have played in three varsity sports for two or more years during grades 9-12 (one of those years being their senior year). The nominee must have a GPA of 3.0 or better. Financial need is not a requirement.

Applicant must be a graduating senior of any Henderson County public high school who is also a native of Henderson County and is pursuing a career in a health-related field, other than a physician. 

The Teagle Foundation's Knowledge for Freedom initiative aims to empower underserved high school students through transformative experiences in the humanities. Grants ranging from $100,000 to $300,000 over 36 months support programs that foster civic responsibility and personal purpose. Colleges can also apply for planning grants of $10,000 to $25,000 to develop tailored programs. The initiative emphasizes intensive summer seminars led by faculty, with continued support for college applications and civic engagement.

Dorothy and Dona Lee Croft Scholarship Fund for Young Musicians

The Dorothy and Dona Lee String Music Scholarship is for students who display talent, dedication to string instruments and a serious commitment to advance in music education through a non-profit music camp.

Dorothy Croft (1910-2009) helped found the Odessa Symphony, serving as the first concertmaster. The Odessa Symphony evolved into the present Midland-Odessa Symphony and Chorale. In 1949, she became a charter member of the Odessa Music Teachers Association, serving as its first president. She was a founding member of the Odessa Civic Concert Association, serving intermittently as its president. She was an early supporter of the Permian Playhouse of Odessa and later of the Globe of the Great Southwest. Dorothy Croft believed that money shouldn’t stop people from chasing their dreams and taught her students multiple lessons beyond just violin.

Dona Lee Croft was an international performer from the age of fourteen, giving concerts throughout Europe, Mexico, and the USA, the last concert performed in Carnegie Hall. A student of such eminent violinists as Nathan Milstein, Bela Katona and Ivan Galamian, she was a Professor of Violin at the Royal College of Music for 20 years where her lessons were filmed by the Albeniz Foundation of Spain, then shown throughout Europe. She has recorded two CDs, the first featuring violin music of Schumann, Kreisler, Brahms, Debussy, and Vieuxtemps and the second 'Violin Music of the 20th Century’.

MetroWest Health Foundation

The MetroWest Health Foundation is an independent health philanthropy whose mission is to improve the health status of the community, its individuals, and families through informed and innovative leadership.

The foundation meets the health needs of our region's residents by supporting community-based and community driven programs. We encourage and foster leadership on critical health issues. We are a grantmaker, convener and facilitator, working to provide resources, information, ideas and advocacy for community change. Since its inception in 1999, the foundation has provided more than $50 million in financial support that helps residents and their families lead healthier lives.

MetroWest Health Foundation: Medical/Clinical Scholarship

Scholarships are provided to students who are residents of one of the 25 towns in our MetroWest service area. Students must be accepted into an eligible medical, or clinical program at an accredited academic institution.

Tuition scholarships are awarded for a maximum of up to $4,000 per academic year. Students can receive a maximum of 4 scholarships. Applicants are eligible to reapply on an annual basis.
