Community Foundation of Northern Nevada

Established in 1998 as a Nevada nonprofit 501(c) 3 Corporation, the Community Foundation of Northern Nevada has distributed more than $200 million in grants and scholarships from over 300 charitable funds to strengthen our Nevada home. 

Scholarship Program

The Community Foundation of Northern Nevada’s Scholarship Program is intended to help students cover the ever-increasing cost of tuition. Some of our scholarships are based on financial need, but others represent an award for achievement. These scholarships typically go to students who have excelled in an academic area or have shown they can balance academics, volunteer work, and extracurricular activities. There are also scholarships designated for students who have overcome adversity, students pursuing degrees in high-need areas, and adult learners outside the traditional college age group. Community Foundation scholarships can help cover tuition, books, and on-campus housing.

The Meruelo Family Scholarship

The Meruelo Family Scholarship was established to provide support for dependents of Grand Sierra Resort & Casino and SAHARA Las Vegas team members who are a graduating high school senior or who are enrolled in a college or advanced learning program.

The qualifying Team Member must be a full-time employee at a qualifying property, have a minimum of one (1) year of employment, and be in good standing with the company at the time of application.

A total of $40,000 will be awarded annually; $20,000 for dependents of Grand Sierra Resort & Casino team members and $20,000 for dependents of SAHARA Las Vegas team members. Five (5) awards in the amount of $3,000 and one (1) Diamond Scholarship award in the amount of $5,000 will be awarded by each property. Funds will be distributed to any college or university for the student's benefit upon confirmation of enrollment and upon completing and signing a scholarship acceptance agreement. This scholarship is a one-time award but is renewable with reapplication.

Josie A. Stewart Scholarship

To provide financial support to graduates of Perkins County and Corson County high schools.

The Josie A. Stewart Scholarship Fund was established in 2000 by the Stewart family to recognize outstanding students from Lemmon High School and honor Josie as a prominent educator in the community. For over 34 years, Josie taught, influenced, and impacted the lives of scores of students in the Lemmon area. Her passion for education followed many of her students after high school by quietly providing them with financial assistance for their college education. In 2015, the Stewart family expanded the scholarship to welcome applicants from Corson and Perkins Counties, extending the reach of Josie’s legacy as a champion of education.

Major General Duane L. 'Duke' Corning Scholarship

To provide financial support to scholarships established by the National Guard Association of South Dakota and the South Dakota National Guard Enlisted Association.

The funding for this scholarship endowment is made possible by donations from the South Dakota National Guard Officer and Enlisted Associations, honoring the memory of Major General Duane L. “Duke” Corning. It reflects his love and dedication to these associations, as well as his loyalty, dedication, and service to his state, nation, and fellow individuals.

The National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) is inviting applications for the Collections Stewardship program, which aims to enhance the preservation and accessibility of essential physical and digital collections. This initiative supports projects related to conservation, digitization, and education in collections stewardship, fostering engagement in the humanities through improved resources and services.

The Colonel David Marcus Memorial Scholarship Award supports students from Burlington, Camden, or Gloucester Counties pursuing post-high school education, particularly in military programs. Established by the Jewish Community Foundation, this scholarship prioritizes candidates who embody Col. Marcus's ideals. Eligible applicants must be high school seniors and may apply for multiple awards. The fund has a strong community leadership background, managing over $35 million in assets to support educational initiatives.

The Furer-Barag-Wolf Post 126 Jewish War Veterans Scholarship Award supports children or grandchildren of JWV Post 126 members, providing merit-based assistance for college or vocational education. Eligible applicants must reside in specific counties in New Jersey or be related to a JWV member. The scholarship covers tuition, books, and living expenses and is open for reapplication annually. This initiative by the Jewish Community Foundation fosters educational opportunities for deserving students.

The Seymour Siegel Youth Achievement Award, offered by the Jewish Community Foundation, provides financial support for high school students pursuing post-secondary education or vocational training. Open to applicants of the Jewish faith, this award prioritizes those from single-parent households, orphans, or foster children. Interested candidates must submit a personal narrative detailing their qualifications. The foundation, established in 1979, is a leading community resource in South Jersey, managing over $35 million in assets.

The Patrice Faye Cohen Memorial Scholarship Award supports high school women from Southern New Jersey who are pursuing college education with a focus on entrepreneurship. Established in memory of Patrice Faye Cohen, a successful business owner, this scholarship aims to empower women to achieve their entrepreneurial dreams. Eligible candidates must demonstrate a commitment to their studies and entrepreneurial aspirations, with financial support available for tuition and related expenses.

The Mildred Soefer Scholarship Fund Award offers financial support to Jewish students from Burlington, Camden, or Gloucester Counties who are pursuing higher education or vocational training. Applicants are required to have a minimum GPA of 2.5 and demonstrate financial need. The scholarship may cover tuition, books, and living expenses. This fund aims to foster educational growth within the community and encourages applicants to apply for multiple awards they may qualify for.

Norm & Margo Meriweather Veterinarian Scholarship

To provide financial support to graduates of the Miller area pursuing a degree in veterinary science.

This scholarship was established to help South Dakota students, reach their goal to becoming a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. Preference will be given to a student who has been admitted to or is currently attending a School of Veterinary Medicine and plans to practice in South Dakota following graduation.

Perry & Doreen Evans Scholarship

To provide financial support to graduates of South Dakota high schools with preference to high schools within Clark and Codington counties.

The Perry & Doreen Evans Scholarship has been established to provide financial assistance to students pursuing post-secondary education. First preference will be given to students residing in Clark County, with secondary preference given to students residing in Codington County.

Four $5,000 renewable scholarships for a maximum of four years to students attending a college or university. Student must maintain and provide proof of a minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA (on a 4.0 scale) and enrolled as a full-time student.

Four $2,500 renewable scholarships for a maximum of two years to students attending a technical college. Student must maintain and provide proof of a minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA (based on 4.0 scale) and enrolled as a full-time student.

Quint Family Scholarship

To provide financial support to high school graduates pursuing a degree in the medical field.

The Quint Family Scholarship was created to commemorate and honor the legacy of the four daughters of Anton & Bertha Quint. Each of these sisters graduated with a 3-year Registered Nurse (RN) diploma from the Dominican School of Nursing in Great Bend, Kansas—Dolores in 1952, Julia in 1956, Alverna in 1961, and Carol in 1963. Collectively, they accumulated 150 years of experience in the healthcare industry.

This need-based scholarship is designed to support high school graduates from the Black Hills region who are pursuing further education in healthcare. The scholarship's founder, Alverna Quint Kopsky, has lived in the Black Hills since 1971, spending much of her career with the Department of Veterans Affairs and providing care to veterans.

This is a two-year scholarship.

The Gallatin College MSU Scholarship at Montana State University supports students pursuing degrees or certificates from Gallatin College. This scholarship is part of the college's commitment to workforce development and aims to provide financial assistance to incoming students. Established in 1893, MSU has a rich history of transforming lives through education, research, and outreach. A limited number of scholarships are available, reflecting MSU's dedication to accessible higher education.

The Gallatin Lodge 6 Masonic Scholarship at Montana State University is aimed at supporting local students pursuing degrees or certificates at Gallatin College. Applicants must be Montana residents with a minimum GPA of 2.5. Preference is given to those demonstrating financial need and who are graduates of Montana high schools or possess a GED. This scholarship reflects MSU's commitment to accessible higher education and community transformation.

The Gallatin Lodge 6 Scholarship at Montana State University supports first-generation college students pursuing a degree in nursing. Established in 1893, MSU provides transformative educational opportunities. This scholarship is specifically aimed at Montana high school graduates, enhancing access to higher education for those who may face financial barriers. With a limited number of awards available, this initiative emphasizes the importance of community support and investment in the future of nursing professionals in Montana.

The Gallatin Valley Ag Committee Scholarship, offered by Montana State University, supports students pursuing a degree in Agriculture. Applicants must be Montana high school graduates, undergraduate students with a minimum 2.5 GPA, and demonstrate leadership and community involvement. Preference is given to graduates from Gallatin County. This scholarship aims to foster academic excellence and community engagement among future agricultural leaders.

The Garsjo-Bartram Family Scholarship at Montana State University supports incoming freshmen who are graduates of Valley County high schools. Established to promote education, this scholarship reflects MSU's commitment to transforming lives through accessible higher education. The Gary Bracken Scholarship at Montana State University supports students pursuing degrees from the Jake Jabs College of Business and Entrepreneurship. Established in 1893, MSU has a long-standing commitment to education and community transformation through scholarships. This opportunity is available to incoming students, encouraging them to embark on their academic journey in business. The Gary J. and Boyd A. Smith Memorial Scholarship at Montana State University supports students pursuing a degree in Elementary Education. This scholarship aims to assist those who demonstrate financial need, ensuring access to quality education. Founded in 1893, MSU is a prestigious institution dedicated to transformative higher education, focusing on the mission of education, research, and outreach. This scholarship exemplifies MSU's commitment to fostering future educators.

The Gary Long Math Scholarship at Montana State University supports Montana high school graduates pursuing a degree in Mathematics. This scholarship is designed for students with sophomore status or above, who can demonstrate financial need. The Gary Twiford Memorial Business Scholarship at Montana State University supports students pursuing a degree at the Jake Jabs College of Business and Entrepreneurship, with a focus on rural Montana residents. The Gary Williams Family Engineering Scholarship at Montana State University is designed to support undergraduate students pursuing a degree in engineering. To qualify, applicants must be residents of Southwest Montana and preferably graduates of Beaverhead County high schools. This scholarship aims to promote educational opportunities for local students, ensuring they have access to the resources needed for success in their engineering careers.

The NIH Director's Early Independence Award encourages exceptional early-career researchers to embark on independent research immediately after completing their doctoral degree or clinical training. This initiative accelerates the transition to independent research careers while supporting innovative projects across all areas of biomedical sciences. It is part of the NIH Common Fund's High-Risk, High-Reward Research program, aiming to foster groundbreaking discoveries.

The NIH Director's Pioneer Award Program aims to support exceptionally creative scientists who propose innovative research projects with the potential to significantly impact biomedical sciences.
