Montana Healthcare Foundation: Rural Health Small Grants

The Montana Healthcare Foundation offers Rural Health Small Grants for organizations located in and serving rural Montana. Through a simplified application, rural Montana organizations can apply for grants of up to $10,000 to help address a health issue in their community.

Communities face many challenges that impact health. We encourage projects that support work addressing a broad range of issues. Projects may focus on any health-related issue, for example, mental health, housing, food, child or elder care, public health, or cultural connection.

This grant initiative is intended to be a low-barrier opportunity for organizations in rural Montana that may have fewer staff and resources, making it difficult to compete for larger grants. Therefore, preference may be given to applications from organizations that are not under the umbrella or network of a larger entity. We also prioritize applications from smaller communities and those located in particularly remote areas of the state. We may also prioritize applications from communities in which MTHF has provided relatively little funding to date.

The George S. Severson Agricultural Scholarship at Montana State University supports full-time undergraduate students pursuing a degree in agriculture from eligible Montana counties. Applicants must maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA or demonstrate strong academic performance as incoming freshmen. This scholarship aims to empower students dedicated to strengthening Montana's agricultural sector and rural communities, with award amounts varying and the potential for renewal based on continued eligibility.

The Central Montana Foundation offers minor grants for requests under $5,000 to support charitable initiatives in Central Montana. Basin Electric Power Cooperative's Charitable Giving Program focuses on supporting communities across its nine-state service territory. The program reviews funding requests periodically and allocates donations to various categories, including education, health services, civic betterment, and cultural initiatives. Additionally, it offers matching funds for member donations and contributes surplus office equipment to organizations in need. This commitment to community growth and sustainability reflects Basin Electric's mission to enhance the well-being of its members.

The Montana DNRC offers state-funded Conservation District Administrative (CDA) Grants aimed at empowering local conservation districts to manage and conserve natural resources effectively. Eligible districts can apply for operational funding to cover essential costs like staff wages and supplies. Additionally, districts may receive up to $3,500 in funding for annual dues to the Montana Association of Conservation Districts, provided they contribute an extra $500 from non-CDA sources.

The Edna Olson Youth Grant, offered by the Community Foundation of Northern Rosebud County, provides funding from $100 to $1,000 for youth-targeted projects in Eastern Montana. This initiative aims to develop youth as future assets rather than focusing solely on facility improvements. Eligible applicants include non-profit organizations and government entities. The Frank Girod, MD, Medical Scholarship was established by the Lebanon Community Hospital Development Council and was funded by numerous contributions made by the late Girod’s friends and family.

The Girod Medical Scholarship is awarded to medical students in honor of the lifetime contribution to health care made by Girod of Samaritan Lebanon Community Hospital and to assist new students of medicine to make similar contributions. The scholarship is coordinated by the Lebanon Community Hospital Foundation and is designed to help residents of east Linn County who are attending medical school.

Samaritan Albany General Hospital Gift Shop sales and miscellaneous special event proceeds are used to fund the scholarships.

The Nurse Education Scholarship is intended to provide financial support for the continued education of an individual who desires to further their career in the nursing field. The scholarship’s purpose is to support caregivers and Certified Nurse Assistants (CNA) who are pursuing ongoing education. The funds will be sent directly to the college for the student’s tuition and other expenses.

Gribler Loving Trust Nursing Education Scholarship

Each year, the Pacific Communities Health District Foundation awards the Gribler Loving Trust Nursing Education Scholarship to three students who live in Lincoln County, are pursuing a degree in nursing and who intend to practice in the community when they graduate. Up to $3,000 is awarded to each student and students who receive the scholarship are eligible to apply for a second year.

The scholarship is awarded in honor of Bill and Olga Gribler, Newport residents since 1947. Bill taught music, providing entertainment throughout the community, and Olga worked for the phone company and later the Bank of Newport. They established this generous scholarship to help address the ongoing need for quality nurses in the region.

Purpose

The intent of this scholarship is to assist a resident from Lincoln County, Oregon:

• To secure training in order to enter or re-enter the field of nursing.
• Who is pursuing a career as a Registered Nurse.
• Who needs training to improve working skills.
• Who has obligations in addition to those of providing for their education

Scholarship Fund Overview

Beyond a shared commitment to educational opportunity, families establish scholarship funds with a variety of goals and purposes in mind. They may offer traditional scholarships or customize fund awards for alternative scholarships.

Currently, CFNJ administers more than 135 scholarship funds. Our scholarship opportunities run the gamut, from those exclusive to a local high school or geographic region to those supporting specific majors or career pursuits. Last year, we awarded over $2 million in scholarship assistance to 271 scholars.

Applicants may be evaluated on academic performance; extracurricular activities; community involvement; paid or unpaid work; and a statement of their personal aspirations, educational goals, and demonstrated unmet financial need in our scholarship review process.

Blossom Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to a college-bound, Black/African-American graduating high school senior from the greater Newark area or Paterson who has pursued a rigorous course of study (with particular emphasis on math and science courses). Applicants will show evidence of readiness for and a commitment to pursue a STEM major. Students will be evaluated on academic performance, extracurricular activities, community service, work (paid or unpaid), and unmet financial need.
