More than 7 million students in the U.S. receive special education services for disabilities in public schools. Currently, 2,490 k-12 public schools in the U.S. are members of the American Association of Adaptive Sports Programs schools and have adaptive sports programs for students.

The Bridgestone Americas Trust Fund seeks public schools pursuing funding to start adaptive sports programs or increase access to adaptive sports and equipment for children and youth. Bridgestone is offering eight $25,000 “mobility” grants to organizations that can establish new athletic programming for students with disabilities. Organizations must articulate a clear plan to provide access to new athletic programs for students with disabilities in one or more public schools for students grades K-12.

BMSS Perry J. Gehring Biological Modeling Endowment Award

The Biological Modeling Specialty Section (BMSS) will present the Perry J. Gehring Biological Modeling Award at the BMSS Business Meeting and Reception during the SOT Annual Meeting. This award is made possible by the Perry J. Gehring Biological Modeling Award Fund of the SOT Endowment, and it will consist of a plaque and a cash award.

Research areas of interest include all aspects of biologically based modeling and simulation, including but not limited to: modeling of complex biological systems, biological insights gained through model development and application, model validation, and mathematical/statistical/computational approaches to biological modeling.

Applicants for this award will be considered for all BMSS awards for which graduate students and postdoctoral scholars are eligible.

Scholarship eligibility requires students to attend an accredited 2 or 4 year public or private institution of higher learning. All scholarships are for full-time students, unless otherwise noted. Renewable awards are for 4 years of undergraduate study and cannot be used for post graduate coursework; all awards are paid directly to the school or may be used for book reimbursement.

The AES Infrastructure Grant, offered by the American Epilepsy Society, provides up to $50,000 to support the development of national or international multicenter research programs. The Climate Smart Communities Initiative (CSCI) Grant supports US-based projects aimed at enhancing community resilience against climate change. With a budget of $1.5-2 million, grants typically range from $75,000 to $115,000.
