L3Harris Technologies is partnering with PLTW to inspire PreK-12 students in STEM fields by funding grants for schools to start or expand PLTW Engineering programs. With a total award of $15,000 available for the 2025-2026 academic year, this initiative focuses on public and charter schools in specific counties, especially those with high-need student populations. The program also includes requirements for grant reporting and allowable expenses to ensure effective use of funds.

Nonprofit and community organizations serving District of Columbia youth ages 9–13 can apply for funding to deliver summer career and educational exploration activities, including occupational skills, academic enrichment, life skills, work readiness, and youth development training. Grants from Chesapeake Bay Trust help Mid-Atlantic environmental justice organizations strengthen staff, training, and technical abilities in disadvantaged communities identified on federal and state mapping tools.

Youth-serving organizations in District of Columbia can apply for DC Department of Parks and Recreation’s Rec for All Event and Travel Grant, offering US $10,000 to support a single youth event, tournament, or travel for athletic competitions. The Capital Food Bank Partnership Program invites not-for-profit organizations with 501(c)(3) status to join in addressing food insecurity. Partners will receive essential food and health education materials to distribute within the Washington metropolitan area. Key eligibility requirements include a budget for food procurement, access to technology, and a designated food storage facility. The Charles and Betty Allen Scholarship, funded by Charles and Betty before their passing, is a reflection of their commitment to education. Charlie, who was extremely successful, left school at an early age to care for his family, but retained a strong belief in higher education.

Charles and Melva T. Owen Memorial Scholarships

First established by Charles Owen in loving memory of his blind wife, these two awards are now endowed to honor the memory of both. In founding these scholarships, Charles Owen wrote: "There shall be no limitation as to field of study, except that it shall be directed toward attaining financial independence.”

The Vitality Fund-Growth Fund, managed by the District of Columbia's Office of the Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development, aims to support local entrepreneurs and small businesses. By offering grants to those establishing or expanding operations in the central business district, the program seeks to create jobs and enhance economic vitality in the area. With a total funding of $551,131, this initiative is integral to fostering inclusive prosperity and economic growth in the District.

Mimi and Marvin Sandler Scholarship

The Mimi and Marvin Sandler award is funded by longtime friends of the Federation, Mr. and Mrs. Sandler. Marvin Sandler served as president of Independent Living Aids for more than thirty years. He and his wife wish to further academic excellence by sponsoring this award.

The Adrienne Asch Memorial Scholarship, offered by the National Federation of the Blind, provides thirty $10,000 merit-based scholarships to legally blind students in the U.S. Selection criteria include academic excellence, community service, and leadership. Finalists attend the national convention in July, where winners are announced. This scholarship emphasizes the belief in the potential of blind individuals to achieve their dreams and contribute to society, making education accessible to all qualified candidates.

Handid Braille Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to an individual studying social science, international relations, or governmental affairs. Handid’s mission is to provide Braille and other forms of accessible media to organizations and individuals. The nonprofit specializes in Braille production in languages other than English, especially languages that do not use the Latin alphabet, and wishes to support a student with unique perspectives.
