Friends of NRA is the National Rifle Association’s premier fundraising program, supporting the future of shooting sports. Since day one, Friends of NRA has been a 100% grassroots effort fueled by a united front to secure the Second Amendment and raise money for the shooting sports.

Committee volunteers are appointed to State Fund Committees to make recommendations for local grant funding in areas such as youth education, women-focused clinics, law enforcement training, hunter safety, range improvement, firearms and marksmanship training and safety. Recognizing the impact American youth has on the future of the shooting sports, State Fund Committees frequently recommend grants for youth programs, allocating the most significant portion of monies to this vital area.

Grant awards fund activities and support programs in the United States to promote firearms and hunting safety, to enhance marksmanship skills of those in the shooting sports, and to educate the public about firearms in their historic, technological and artistic context.

Friends of NRA State Fund Grant Program - Alabama

The Friends of NRA State Fund Grant Program provides supplies, equipment, and financial support to a variety of qualified groups and programs at the local level; geared towards youth, women, law enforcement, veterans, the disabled, and the general public, including:

• General shooting programs
• Competitive shooting
• Education, training and safety
• Hunting and conservation
• Community outreach
• Historical education

Grant funding must be used to further a charitable purpose as defined by the Internal Revenue Code under section 501(c)(3) and accompanying rules, regulations, and other IRS law and materials.

Healthcare organizations and research partners in Alabama working on gun violence or firearm suicide prevention can apply for Kaiser Permanente Advisory Services’ Center for Gun Violence Research and Education grants, awarding up to US $300,000. Funding supports capacity-building and research on healthcare and clinical care models that reduce community gun violence, firearm suicide, and improve survivor care.

Nonprofit 501(c)(3) public charities working on national or multi-state democracy and civil liberties initiatives, including gun violence prevention, can apply for the Lisa & Douglas Goldman Fund’s Democracy & Civil Liberties support. Programs based in Alabama may be eligible if they operate across multiple states and focus on voting rights, money in politics, or gun violence prevention.

The NRA Foundation’s Sybil Ludington Women’s Freedom Award recognizes women whose leadership, public service, and firearm-related contributions significantly impact the NRA’s goals and programs across the U.S.

Academic, healthcare, and research institutions working on firearm injury prevention can apply for research capacity-building grants from Kaiser Permanente’s Center for Gun Violence Research and Education, including those in Alabama. Focused on healthcare-based approaches, this opportunity supports building organizational capacity to research clinical and health system strategies that prevent, treat, and heal firearm-related harms in highly impacted communities.

Healthcare and research organizations conducting gun violence prevention studies in Alabama can access funding through Kaiser Permanente for pilot or formative healthcare research. The BJA FY 2026 Local Law Enforcement Crime Gun Intelligence Center Integration Initiative aims to support law enforcement agencies in establishing and expanding Crime Gun Intelligence Centers (CGICs). This initiative encourages interagency collaboration for the effective management and analysis of crime gun evidence, enhancing the ability to swiftly identify crime guns and their sources. In partnership with the ATF, this program seeks to reduce firearm-related crime and improve prosecution outcomes.

The Preventing Violence Affecting Young Lives (PREVAYL 2.0) initiative aims to provide multiyear funding for state and local health departments to implement violence prevention strategies for adolescents and young adults. Key focuses include enhancing data-driven decision-making, building capacity for evidence-based strategies, integrating youth mental health support, fostering multisector collaborations, and prioritizing the prevention of various forms of violence, ensuring comprehensive support for youth development.

U.S. 501(c)(3) public charities working on Jewish community initiatives, including gun violence prevention advocacy or related civic engagement, can apply for invitation-only support from the Lisa & Douglas Goldman Fund. Projects must serve the San Francisco Bay Area and/or have national implementation, and begin with a Letter of Inquiry before a possible full proposal invitation.
