Through the generosity of our donors and community of supporters, o ur sole purpose for the past 46 years has been to fund physical therapy research and researchers through grants, scholarships, and fellowships. They are b uilding our knowledge of and evidence about effective and innovative physical therapy practices, tools, guidelines, and education across the spectrum of our professional specialties.

Our growing number of larger grants allow s us to fund both emerging and established researchers who have been helping build the physical therapy evidence base in priority areas and help define the value of physical therapy for patients and clients, health care professionals , and payers. Through the generosity of our donors, we have created a sustained pipeline for future researchers and of research funding to help launch careers and advance the profession’s evidence -based practices.

The FPTR: Acute Care Research Grant aims to support high-quality research relevant to acute care physical therapy practice. With a total funding of $80,000, this grant encourages innovative studies that can enhance the understanding and application of physical therapy methods. The Foundation for Physical Therapy Research prioritizes projects that address pressing clinical questions and contribute to the evidence base for effective practices while promoting equity in health care.

The ASH HONORS Award supports emerging hematologists, offering $5,000 for research projects and a $1,000 annual travel allowance for two years. Targeted at first- and second-year medical students and residents, the award encourages ongoing research careers in hematology. This scholarship is open to all majors, with priority given to women returning to school at Shasta College, or CSU Chico.

The Marcia McKenzie ‘Pay It Forward’ Scholarship Fund honors Marcia’s strong belief in a college education to further a person’s career goals and life path. She was the first of her family to attend and graduate from college, and benefitted throughout her life from that education. Years after her bachelor’s degree, she commuted to CSU, Chico to obtain a master’s degree while teaching full time at Shasta College. 

A wonderful mother and scratch cook, this scholarship was organized by her daughters and niece to honor her unwavering educational legacy. This scholarship is open to all majors, with preference given to applicants with an articulated career path, and life or community experiences that have delayed but clarified career intentions.

The Myocarditis Foundation offers research grants aimed at advancing the understanding and treatment of myocarditis, a rare but serious disease. These grants provide $40,000 in seed funding for promising physician-scientists within ten years of their MD or PhD. Recipients are expected to conduct research in the U.S. or Canada, culminating in a final report.
