Every day, Sprouts receives numerous donation and sponsorship requests. Due to the volume of applications we receive, we regret we cannot approve every request.

The Garden Club of Houston, established in 1924, promotes gardening and environmental conservation through various community initiatives. Their funding supports nonprofit organizations and government entities, focusing on projects that enhance public landscapes, educational resources, and community gardens. Grants are not awarded for operating funds or endowments, with preference given to projects within the greater Houston area. This commitment to civic improvement underscores their mission to foster a love of gardening and environmental stewardship.

Schools, homeschooling families, and education organizations in Nebraska can use this grant to install hydroponic classroom gardens that support STEM and nutrition education. Rise Gardens provides horticulture and gardening programs with tools for NGSS-aligned, hands-on science, entrepreneurship projects, and community-building activities that can enhance student engagement year-round.

Students pursuing horticulture or floriculture degrees who plan careers in commercial cut flower production can receive US $1,000 scholarships for education-related costs. Association of Specialty Cut Flower Growers supports horticulture and gardening in Nebraska and nationwide by funding two students annually, including part-time and graduate students meeting the cut flower industry-focused criteria.

Universities, colleges, and federal research institutions in Nebraska conducting floriculture or horticulture-related research can access funding through the American Floral Endowment’s Fred C. Gloeckner Foundation Research Fund. Grants support significant research and educational projects, including equipment tied to a research plan, with results shared publicly; awards are made annually with potential for renewal.

Nebraska schools and 3rd grade educators interested in horticulture and gardening can access funding through the Bonnie Plants Foundation’s 3rd Grade Cabbage Program. Eligible 3rd grade classes receive free cabbage plants, and one student in each participating state may win US $1,000 in in-kind support for their standout cabbage.

Nebraska schools interested in horticulture, gardening, and STEM education can apply for Green Our Planet’s HydroConnect grant to launch a hydroponics-based school garden program. Focused on hands-on K–12 STEM, health, and financial literacy, it provides curriculum, hydroponic units, coaching, and a teacher community that may benefit school garden initiatives.

Nonprofits, schools, religious and other tax-exempt organizations in Nebraska can apply to transform a vacant lot into a community garden. Focused on horticulture and gardening, KidsGardening invites under-resourced groups serving at least fifteen participants to seek US $20,000 to build a garden that supports community growth and well-being.

Nonprofit floral industry organizations in Nebraska offering retail floral education or training can apply for the Meinders Retail Florist Education Grant Fund to reduce or waive registration fees for floral industry events. Administered annually by American Floral Endowment, this support may benefit horticulture and gardening programs, including community and school garden initiatives with a floral focus.

Nebraska horticulture and gardening nonprofits with local community projects can access funding through Kubota for up to US $50,000 in combined cash and equipment support. 501(c)(3) organizations creating or improving community and school gardens, parks, playgrounds, or other public green spaces may be selected as one of 10 hometown-focused grant recipients nationwide.

Nebraska horticulture and gardening groups, community organizations, and individuals in need can access funding through Bennington Community Foundation to support local projects and community betterment. Grants may benefit community and school gardens, parks and public spaces, youth development, sports, library services, and broader community development efforts in Douglas County.

Academic, governmental, industry, and 501(c)(3) researchers in horticulture and gardening in Nebraska can seek funding for one-year research projects benefiting specialty cut flower growers. The Association of Specialty Cut Flower Growers supports plant science studies, with US $30,000 total available in 2026; collaboration with growers and on-farm testing is encouraged.

Schools, nonprofits, and other organizations in Nebraska planning new or expanding existing youth garden programs can receive US $500 in gardening supplies to serve at least 15 children ages 0–18. With a mission to support horticulture and gardening education, KidsGardening prioritizes under-resourced programs where the grant will significantly expand learning opportunities and community impact.

NGC-member garden clubs in Nebraska can apply for National Garden Clubs’ Ames Tools Grant, receiving up to US $250 in in-kind garden tools for community or school garden and garden therapy projects. Eligible projects run March 1–September 30, 2026, and may be joint ventures if the applying club is an NGC member.

Nebraska horticulture and gardening clubs that are members of National Garden Clubs can receive funding for community and school gardens, beautification, and environmental projects. National Garden Clubs provides up to US $2,000 for direct project expenses, including public landscaping, Habitat for Humanity landscaping, memorial marker landscaping, and horticulture or environmental education events that engage local residents.

Local or state garden clubs in Nebraska can seek funding to replant and restore public community or school gardens damaged by natural disasters. National Garden Clubs supports horticulture and gardening projects across the U.S., offering up to US $5,000 per project for garden-related restoration efforts such as parks and municipal gardens.

Nebraska horticulture and gardening students can access funding through Rochester Area Community Foundation’s GardenScape Professional Association/Ted Burnett Memorial Scholarship, which offers US $1,000 for higher education expenses. Eligible applicants must study floriculture, horticulture, nursery management, landscape design, or landscape architecture and reside in specified Genesee-Finger Lakes counties.

Students pursuing post-secondary horticulture, environmental science, or agricultural business programs can apply for the August Corso Scholarship Fund; awards support study at accredited nonprofit colleges, universities, or vocational/apprenticeship programs in the U.S. Residents of Erie County, Ohio planning garden- or agriculture-related careers, including community and school gardening, may benefit from this renewable funding.

Nebraska students pursuing horticulture or gardening studies can access funding through Community Foundation of Washington County Maryland, which offers the Hagerstown Garden Club Scholarship. Washington County, MD residents who are graduating high school seniors or current college students majoring in a horticultural field may be eligible if they meet the academic requirements.

Nonprofit organizations, schools, universities, government entities, and other tax-exempt groups in Nebraska can access funding through KidsGardening to install or improve intergenerational gardens. The Growing the Future Intergenerational Garden Grant offers US $750 total in cash and supplies for programs serving at least 15 youth and seniors in under-resourced communities across the U.S. and territories.

The Community Foundation of the Holland/Zeeland Area seeks to ensure that our community thrives today, tomorrow, and forever by building our Community’s Endowment to support high impact charitable projects, helping donors achieve their charitable goals, and leading and partnering in community-level initiatives.

Scholarships

CFHZ awards over $1 million in scholarships each year for students to attend schools of higher education throughout the nation. Our scholarships are possible thanks to the generosity of donors who invest in our community’s future by furthering the education of others.

All Holland/Zeeland area individuals interested in post-secondary education are encouraged to apply for CFHZ scholarships.

The Foundation proudly administers over 100 scholarships, each with unique eligibility criteria that must be met before a candidate can be considered.

Peter and Huberdina Weller Scholarship

• Graduating senior, graduating early college student, or current college student from a high school within the greater Community Foundation service area
• Enrolling/enrolled at an accredited post-secondary school within the United States
• Financial need (must submit the page of the FAFSA Submission Summary showing the Student Aid Index amount)
• GPA of 3.0 or greater
• Intention to pursue educational opportunities and a career in horticulture or the biological sciences with an emphasis on botany
• All other qualifications being equal, tie-breaking consideration will be given to students of color
• Previous recipients of the award are encouraged to reapply.

The West Michigan Nursery and Landscape Association Scholarship, established in 2001, supports students from Ottawa, Oceana, Newaygo, Muskegon, or Allegan County pursuing careers in horticulture or the green industry. Administered by the Grand Haven Area Community Foundation, awards consider financial need and academic achievement. Applicants, including high school seniors and college students, must submit transcripts and additional required documents. This scholarship aims to foster education and partnerships within West Michigan's green industry.

Stanislaus Community Foundation provides scholarship opportunities for students in order to help them achieve their educational and career goals. We believe that by investing in our students, we are investing in a brighter future for Stanislaus. 

Bob Boggeri Farms Fund

Open to students planning to pursue a degree in Ag or Horticulture. Must be a FFA member and demonstrate financial need. Preference given to students from Hughson.

Robert Woolley Scholarship

Open to graduating seniors from Stanislaus County attending a four-year university to study horticulture.

Award Amount:

• $10,000

Scholarships are available to graduating high school seniors. Applications are accepted from mid-November until mid-March. Scholarship award recipients will be announced at the high school awards ceremony. 

Van Cott Family Memorial Scholarship

Established in memory of Kermit Van Cott and his son Forrest to provide tuition assistance to a graduating Senior from one of the High Schools in Susquehanna County, with priority given to Blue Ridge, who will major in Landscape Architecture, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Horticulture, Botany, Forestry, or Agriculture and who will matriculate at college or a post-secondary degree program.

About

Paul Newman was born and raised in Ohio by parents who owned a successful sporting goods store. He enlisted in the Navy and completed his military service as a radioman/gunner in the Pacific during World War II. Seeing his father’s business ethic during the Great Depression and experiencing the war fueled his desire to help others in need.

In 1958, Paul made his acting debut on Broadway in “Picnic,” where he also met his future wife, Joanne Woodward. Paul started a successful race car driving career inspired by training for the film Winning. He went on to win second place in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the world’s oldest endurance race event. After years of acting and being recognized for his achievements on screen and stage, he received many accolades including an Oscar for Best Actor in The Color of Money.

Paul used his fame for good. He was dedicated to civil rights–attending the March on Washington in August 1963–women’s rights, and gay rights. He used his platform to advocate for equal pay for his female co-stars. He was a vocal political advocate committed to ending the nuclear arms race and determined to elect opponents of war and militarism. President Jimmy Carter appointed him to a United Nations General Assembly session on nuclear disarmament.

In 1982, Paul Newman and his friend Hotch founded a food company on a bit of a lark. They turned a profit selling salad dressing that first year, and did something truly radical when they decided to “give it all away” to good causes.

Paul established Newman’s Own Foundation to ensure the continuation of his philanthropic legacy after his passing. 40+ years since its founding, his first of its kind food company and its innovative business model are still going strong.
