Our mission is to bring people and resources together to strengthen the quality of life, both now and in the future, for the residents of Randolph County.

The Community Foundation’s work falls into three major categories: grant-making, donor service, and community convening. Our most visible activities are the grants and scholarships we award each year. Most of these awards come from income earned from permanently endowed funds. Scholarships and other grants come from funds that donors have established for specific purposes.

Rickert-Shierling Educational Scholarship Fund

The Fund was established to provide scholarships to students who meet the following qualifications: A resident of Randolph County, Indiana, any age seeking higher education, post-secondary education, or adult education, in pursuit of a certificate, diploma or academic degree. Preference will be given to a student with a desire to learn more about human sexuality and/or secular humanism. In the event there is an applicant who desires to study another field on a quest to learn, assuming all other qualifications are met, the monies from the fund can be utilized.

The African-American Community Foundation's Deloris L. Winslow Scholarship for Community Excellence, established in 2013 by The Dayton Foundation, supports minority students from Clark and Montgomery Counties pursuing degrees in social work, political science, counseling, psychology, or addiction treatment. The Dayton Foundation, established in 1921, aims to enhance community welfare through philanthropy, focusing on education, health, arts, and urgent regional needs. This scholarship reflects its commitment to fostering equitable opportunities and community service.

The Eleanor and Nathan Berry Scholarship, offered by The Community Foundation of Greater New Britain, supports high school seniors from local towns who aim to pursue a full-time bachelor's degree at accredited institutions. Ideal candidates exhibit strong academic records and personal growth through meaningful activities. Preference is given to those aspiring to careers in medicine or finance, with a personal essay required for application. This initiative highlights the Foundation's commitment to education and community development.

Jeffrey Geiger Memorial Scholarship

This award was established to honor Jeffrey Geiger who was involved in FFA, a 10-year member of 4-H, and an Eagle Scout. Jeff devoted his life to Whitley County 4-H. He served on the Fair Board for over 11 years and was President of Whitley County 4-H Inc. for more than seven years.

This scholarship is given to a to a 5 year participant of 4-H or a 2 year member of FFA who mirrors Jeff’s lifelong passion.

The Cohen Family and L. and V., Inc. Family Scholarship aims to alleviate financial barriers for students pursuing nursing or related fields. Offered by the Community Foundation of Elmira-Corning and the Finger Lakes, this scholarship is designed for adults, including non-traditional and vocational students. With a focus on broadening access to education, the foundation provides support to those seeking further education, ensuring that help is available throughout the application process.

The Christopher Maerz Memorial Scholarship, offered by the Community Foundation of Greater New Britain, supports graduating seniors or past graduates from New Britain or Berlin high schools pursuing a bachelor's degree in nursing or a related medical field. Applicants must maintain a C+ average and demonstrate financial need, with a preference for first-generation college students committed to healthcare. This initiative aims to foster skilled, compassionate care in the community.

The Chan Zuckerberg Initiative is calling for innovative research proposals that leverage synthetic biology principles to advance immunology. This funding opportunity supports projects aimed at enhancing immune cell functionality, developing synthetic bio-circuits, and creating artificial immune systems. The initiative seeks transformative research that can lead to significant breakthroughs in understanding and treating immune-related diseases, ultimately impacting public health on a large scale.

The Austrian-Hungarian Singing – Sick Benefit Society Donau, Inc. Preference is given to students of Austrian, German, or Swiss-German descent or members of the Austrian-Hungarian Club. The African-American Community Foundation - Charles and Pat Meadows Scholarship, established by The Dayton Foundation, supports underrepresented students from Dayton Public, Jefferson Township, or Trotwood Public Schools. This scholarship aims to honor Charles Meadows' belief in education as a pathway to success. Eligible applicants must be high school seniors with a minimum 3.0 GPA, accepted to an accredited college, demonstrate financial need, and show participation in extracurricular activities. It fosters educational opportunities for deserving students.

The AHRQ Small Research Projects (R03) program supports short-term research endeavors in primary care, enabling innovative pilot studies, secondary data analysis, and the development of research methodologies. This initiative encourages researchers to explore new technologies and approaches within limited resource frameworks, fostering advancements in healthcare quality and efficiency. Applications are due by 5:00 PM local time of the applicant organization, emphasizing the importance of timely submission.

The Graton Fellowship, offered by the Sundance Institute, supports Indigenous artists from California-based tribes by providing a $25,000 grant and a year of comprehensive support. This includes access to mentorship, strategic creative services, and participation in the Sundance Film Festival. The initiative aims to empower artists to share their unique stories through film, reflecting the rich cultural heritage of California Indian tribes and fostering a greater understanding of their perspectives.

The Jack and Ruth Calder Scholarship, offered by the Northwest Connecticut Community Foundation, supports graduating seniors from specific local high schools who reside in particular towns. With an average award of $300, preference is given to students who are actively involved in their communities through volunteering or have received notable recognition. This scholarship is a valuable opportunity for those dedicated to making a difference.

Fund provides scholarships to further the education of young men and women who appear to be able, deserving, and in real need of financial assistance in their post high school education in the fields of either technical, vocational, academic, or professional education.

The Texas DPS Scholarship, offered by the Communities Foundation of Texas, provides financial assistance to current or retired Texas Department of Public Safety employees and their immediate family members. Eligible applicants must be Texas high school graduates or foreign nationals residing in Texas for a year, with a minimum GPA of 3.0 and standardized test scores. Scholarships can be applied at accredited colleges or universities in the U.S., fostering educational opportunities for those who serve the community.

The Simon Greenstone Panatier Scholarship, offered by the Communities Foundation of Texas, provides annual scholarships totaling $50,000 for students affected by cancer. Collaborating with Clemson University and the Foundation for Fresh Produce, the program supports three research tracks, focusing on applied R&D, technology acceleration, and pilot-scale manufacturing projects to advance eco-friendly packaging solutions.

The ASHP Foundation offers Professional Advancement Scholarships for up to 13 graduating pharmacy students to attend the 2025 ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting. Each recipient will receive full meeting registration and $1,000 for travel expenses. The Dunkirk Community Funds: Ella & Irene Cunningham Scholarship, established in 1995, provides financial support to students residing within Dunkirk, IN, particularly those pursuing higher education in business or education. Preference is given to female applicants. The fund transitioned to The Portland Foundation in 2023, following the merger with The Dunkirk Foundation, continuing its mission to empower local students through educational opportunities and promote community growth.

The Eleanor & Henry Jansen Foundation, established in 1998, supports nonprofit organizations in Whatcom County, focusing on youth programs. The foundation encourages proposals that directly impact the community and emphasizes the importance of a substantial volunteer base. Special consideration is given to projects that were significant to Eleanor and Henry Jansen. Applicants are encouraged to seek matching funds from multiple sources, with priority given to youth-serving initiatives.

Dean and Jordan Hoffman Whitley County 4H Beef Scholarship

This scholarship was established by friends and family in memory of Dean Hoffman.

This scholarship will go to a Whitley County senior involved with 4-H Beef Club.The recipient will be selected during the Whitley County 4-H Fair.

The Allen and Rosalind Humes Humanitarian Scholarship, managed by the Community Foundation of Greater New Britain, supports high school seniors from Berlin and Deep River, CT, and residents of Winchester, NH. Eligible candidates must be active members of a faith community and average students, ranked in the middle third of their class. This scholarship aims to foster future success in humanitarian disciplines such as social work, nursing, and teaching, encouraging a commitment to serving others.

The Northwood Woman’s Club Scholarship offers one-year scholarships ranging from $2,500 to $5,000 for female students pursuing education at accredited institutions in the U.S. Established in 1953, the scholarship aims to support women in their academic endeavors without restrictions on the field of study. Eligible applicants must be female residents of Dallas or Collin County, Texas, with a minimum GPA of 2.5. This initiative fosters educational growth and community development.

The Ruth M. and Adolph J. Betterini Scholarship, offered by the Community Foundation of Greater New Britain, supports graduating seniors from Berlin and New Britain High Schools. Eligible students must maintain at least a C+ average and intend to pursue a bachelor's degree in engineering or a medical field. Preference is given to those demonstrating financial need and good citizenship, ensuring that motivated individuals can further their education and contribute positively to their communities.

The Leo and Piney Scott Scholarship, offered by the Community Foundation of Abilene, honors the legacy of Leo and Piney Scott, who dedicated their lives to education and community service. The Dunkirk Community Funds: Dr. H. L. Shroyer Christian Love Scholarship, established in 1970, provides scholarships to high school graduates from Jay County and nearby areas who exemplify Christ’s love in their daily lives. The scholarship aims to support students who demonstrate strong moral character and faith through an essay on the significance of Christ’s love. This fund was transferred to the Portland Foundation in 2023, enhancing its mission to foster community growth and opportunity.

The Siebenthal and Block Scholarship Program, administered by Scholarship America, supports students from Peoria Manual High School pursuing higher education. This initiative aims to eliminate financial barriers and promote access to college or vocational training. By fostering partnerships and providing vital resources, the program enhances educational opportunities for underrepresented students, ensuring they can achieve their academic goals and minimize debt. Through its commitment, Scholarship America continues to impact lives significantly.
