The City of Chicago's UNCF Workplace Campaign Scholarship will provide a one-time, merit-based scholarship of $5,000 for students of any classification who have a parent or guardian employed by the City of Chicago and its affiliate agencies. Early Childhood Education Facilities Expansion Grant Funding Opportunity

Goals and Priorities

The primary goal of this grant is to expand equitable access to high-quality early childhood education in Nevada by funding facilities projects that directly support the expansion of facilities for early childhood education in areas of Nevada where access to high-quality early childhood education is limited. In alignment with SB460 (2025) and Nevada’s broader early learning goals, this initiative supports capital investments that address physical space limitations and promotes longterm access to licensed, developmentally appropriate early childhood education programs for Nevada’s young learners, particularly those in underserved and high-need communities.

The Department of Education shall disburse not more than $150,000 for each 800 square feet of expansion.

Early Childhood Literacy & Readiness Programs Grant

The Early Childhood Literacy & Readiness Programs Grant was established with the passage of Senate Bill (SB) 460 in June 2025 during the 83rd session of the Nevada Legislature. These funds are intended to establish an innovative new program or to expand an existing early literacy program that supports children less than the age of six years old, their families, and early childhood professionals. 

Funds awarded through the competitive application process must supplement and not supplant existing state or federal funds

Goals and Priorities

Priority will be given to applicants who:

• Have demonstrated sustained success in improving the literacy and readiness for entering kindergarten of children less than 6 years of age; OR
• Provide services to geographical areas with higher proportion of children entering kindergarten who have demonstrated a deficit across early learning domains during the immediately preceding two years. 

Participation and Evaluation

Each program supported by a grant awarded must:

• Serve children who are less than 6 years of age;
• Be evidence-based;
• Provide appropriate individualized accommodations and supports for children with disabilities;
• Include a plan of reporting accountability for the performance of the program; and
• Include an implementation plan which is financially sound and proposes to use all funds awarded within FY27.

ESSA Title III Immigrant Children and Youth Competitive Grant

To better support Local Educational Agencies (LEAs) in creating high-quality, impactful programs, the Nevada Department of Education (NDE or Department) is shifting to a competitive model for Title III Immigrant Children and Youth funding. This change allows NDE to award fewer, larger grants of sufficient size and scope to help recently immigrated students acclimate to U.S. schools, master English, and achieve challenging State academic standards.

For the purposes of this grant, “Immigrant Children and Youth” are defined by the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) §3201(5) as individuals who:

• Are aged 3 through 21;
• Were not born in any State (defined as the 50 States, D.C., and Puerto Rico); and
• Have not been attending one or more schools in any one or more States for more than three full academic years.

Open Enrollment Transportation Support Grant

Assembly Bill 533 (AB533) and Senate Bill 460 (SB460), passed during the 2025 Legislative Session, allocated $7M to support transportation services for students residing in the zone of attendance of a 1- or 2-star school who enroll in a program of open enrollment to attend a school outside of their zone of attendance and have attested to requiring financial assistance. The Nevada Department of Education (NDE or Department) is tasked with establishing a program to award grants of money to school districts and organizations so that they may develop a program to provide transportation directly to pupils, provide reimbursement to the parents or legal guardians of students for the cost of transportation, or to identify the need and eligibility of students for a program of transportation assistance. Please note that details regarding this funding are explicated through regulatory amendments to the Nevada Administrative Code (NAC) and are currently in draft as R076-25RP3. K-3 STEM and ELA Integration Pilot Grant Notice of Funding Opportunity

Goals and Priorities

The Nevada Department of Education is committed to expanding high-quality educational opportunities that ensure all students reach reading proficiency by the end of third grade. The K-3 STEM and ELA Integration Pilot Program, established under SB 460 (2025) pursuant to Section 33.93, reflects this commitment by integrating STEM into foundational English language arts instruction through the implementation of highquality curricula, evidence-based teaching strategies, and educational innovation.

By utilizing scientifically based reading research and STEM-based texts, this initiative strengthens explicit, phonics-based instruction while pioneering new instructional models that bridge literacy and STEM concepts to prepare early learners for academic success. The results of this pilot will be used by the State Board to determine whether the statewide model curriculum for English language arts should be revised to include this integrated approach.

In determining whether to approve an application for a grant, the Department shall consider:

• The quality of the proposed curricula for a program that integrates texts related to science, technology, engineering and mathematics into instruction in literacy in kindergarten and grades 1, 2 and 3 that uses scientifically based reading research;
• The proposed instructional strategies; and

School Garden Grant

Overview of the School Garden Grant Program

Senate Bill (SB) 104, passed during the 83rd Nevada Legislative Session (2025), appropriates funds to the Nevada Department of Education (NDE) for allocation to nonprofit organizations to implement school garden programs in public schools. The purpose of this funding is to support the creation and maintenance of school gardens, including hydroponic systems, as part of a comprehensive K-12 science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) curriculum. These gardens are intended to promote project-based learning, healthy eating, and community involvement in Nevada’s unique desert environment.

Programs funded through this grant must meet the specific criteria outlined in SB 104 and align with Nevada’s academic standards in science, with curriculum tailored to grade levels and the desert climate.

Literacy Interventionists and Tutoring Programs Grant

Goals and Priorities

The primary goal of this grant is to increase literacy proficiency through direct, in-person and/or on campus interventions and tutoring for K-5 pupils. Pursuant to SB 460 Sec. 78.4(2), priority in awarding grants will be given to applicants providing access for pupils attending public schools designated as a 1-star school under the Nevada School Performance Framework.

Please note that while SB460 identifies priority for schools designated as “Focus”, “Center Focus”, or “Priority Growth”, no such schools will be eligible for such designation in fiscal year 2026-27 (FY27) and are null for the purposes of this funding opportunity. 

The FY26 Literacy Interventionists and Tutoring Programs grant aims to enhance literacy proficiency for K-5 students through direct, on-campus interventions and tutoring. With a focus on supporting public schools designated as 1-star schools, this initiative is led by the Nevada Department of Education, which collaborates with local districts to promote educational equity and improve student outcomes. The NV Energy Powerful Partnerships Scholarship is offered to students who are graduating high school seniors in NV Energy’s northern service territory, including all communities served by NV Energy in northern Nevada. This one-time scholarship of $1,000 - $1,500 is awarded based on the program’s selection criteria and on the number of applications received. The scholarship will benefit the dependents of NV Energy employees and members of the general public. The scholarship may be used at any accredited university, college, community college, trade, or vocational school in Nevada. We encourage graduating high school seniors both in public and private schools as well as homeschooled to apply.

Dependents of NV Energy employees will be considered separately for a one-time scholarship of $2,000.

• To help companies build a more diverse workforce; 
• To provide diverse students with the preparation they need to succeed in college, familiarize themselves with professional career paths, and prepare to be competitive candidates for internships and future employers after graduation.

UNCF’s SPDP partners include The Walt Disney Company, Toyota, Papa Johns, United Health Foundation, Wells Fargo, and the Walton Family Foundation. We currently serve over 1500 students annually through internship, leadership, and professional development services.

The UNCF Student Professional Development Programs (SPDP) offer career readiness, success coaching, and paid summer and semester internships to college students. Students participating in SPDP will be exposed to career pathways and opportunities and have access to leadership and personal development training. 

SPDP students will:

• Prepare to navigate from college to early-stage careers
• Enhance professional experiences through meaningful internships
• Develop stronger project management skills
• Improve networking and communication skills
• Strengthen interviewing techniques 

Currently, the SPDP is sourcing candidates to fill for summer 2026 internships!! Children’s Justice Act

Opportunity Summary

The Children’s Justice Act (CJA) provides grants to States to improve the investigation, prosecution, and judicial handling of cases of child abuse and neglect, particularly child sexual abuse and exploitation, in a manner that limits additional trauma to the child victim. CJA grantees are responsible for implementing the requirements of the CJA grant program to reform state processes for responding to child abuse and neglect.

• Regional and local multidisciplinary trainings;

CJA funds are to be primarily focused on the front-end, intake, assessment, investigative, and prosecutorial phases of child welfare. CJA Funds must not be used for prevention programs or treatment services. Projects selected by the Task Force should be mindful that funds must be spent to support efforts at the intake and investigative phase of child welfare.

Causal Research on the Impacts of Cell Phone Policies in K-12 Schools

The Opportunity

Smartphones are nearly universal among children and adolescents in the United States: 95% of teens reported having access to a smartphone, giving them regular exposure to social media, gaming, and video streaming platforms. While smartphones can support learning and social connection, emerging evidence suggests that using phones during school may also interfere with important educational goals, including student engagement, attendance, and academic performance.

In response, more than 30 states have passed laws restricting cell phone use in K-12 schools in recent years. These policies vary widely, ranging from “bell-to-bell” policies to classroom-level bans on phones only during instructional time. Despite the rapid adoption of these policies, rigorous evidence on academic, behavioral, and mental health impacts remains limited. In the absence of strong research, federal and state policymakers, as well as school and district leaders, lack the information needed to make informed decisions that effectively support student success. Building a robust evidence base is critical for shaping policies and practices that improve learning and well-being in both the short- and long-term.

This RFP seeks to address these gaps by supporting rigorous, causal research on the academic, behavioral, and mental health impacts of cell phone policies in K-12 schools in the United States. We seek studies that generate actionable insights for policymakers, as well as school and district leaders, who are deciding whether and how to implement or refine such policies. This RFP will support both Randomized Controlled Trials (RCTs) and Quasi-Experimental Designs (QEDs) that can credibly estimate causal effects. While we are open to a range of research questions, we highlight 2 areas of particular interest below.

What are the overall impacts of policies restricting cell phone use in K-12 schools?

• What are the short- and long-term impacts of cell phone policies on student-level outcomes, including academic achievement and attainment (e.g., standardized test scores, graduation rates), behaviors (e.g., engagement, attendance, disciplinary actions), and/or mental health (e.g., depression, anxiety, loneliness)?

• What are the short- and long-term impacts of cell phone policies on school-level outcomes, including school safety (e.g., reported incidents), school climate (e.g., bullying, social connections), and administrative factors (e.g., costs, logistics, communications with parents)?

• Do initial impacts persist, fade, or grow as schools refine their practices over time?

What factors explain variation in the impacts of cell phone policies?

• Which students, schools, and districts are most impacted by cell phone policies?

• Which policy design features (e.g., what devices are banned, when devices are banned, how devices are stored/locked) make cell phone policies more — or less — effective?

• Which implementation strategies (e.g., training and supports for school staff, consistent approaches for enforcement) make cell phone policies more — or less — effective?

• How do the resource and operational implications of different policy approaches (e.g., costs, staff time, infrastructure needs) influence their effectiveness? How do these factors affect the scalability and sustainability of effective approaches?

The Pilot Projects to Enhance the Human Virome Program (R03) aims to support small-scale research projects that enhance the understanding of the human virome. This initiative encourages innovative approaches to study virome interactions and improve tools developed under the Human Virome Program. By leveraging human and animal specimens, projects should foster collaboration and expand existing research efforts, ultimately contributing to a deeper understanding of the virome's role in health and disease.

The Cancer Center Support Grants (CCSGs) aim to bolster NCI-Designated Cancer Centers by funding comprehensive, clinical, and basic cancer research. These grants facilitate the integration of diverse research capabilities, promoting innovative approaches to cancer prevention, diagnosis, and therapy. CCSGs encourage collaboration among researchers and the development of Shared Resources, ultimately enhancing the understanding of cancer and its treatment. This initiative supports the continuous discovery and dissemination of crucial research findings for community benefit.

The National Cancer Institute (NCI) invites research applications focused on early-onset cancers (ages 18-49), aiming to uncover their etiology and biological mechanisms. This funding opportunity supports studies that explore modifiable risk factors, biological responses, and improved identification of at-risk individuals. The initiative seeks to address the concerning rise in these cancers among young adults, facilitating essential prevention and control strategies. Applicants can choose between exploratory or research project formats, with project durations ranging from 2 to 5 years.

Scholarship Program

The Community Foundation of Northern Nevada’s Scholarship Program is intended to help students cover the ever-increasing cost of tuition. Some of our scholarships are based on financial need, but others represent an award for achievement. These scholarships typically go to students who have excelled in an academic area or have shown they can balance academics, volunteer work, and extracurricular activities. There are also scholarships designated for students who have overcome adversity, students pursuing degrees in high-need areas, and adult learners outside the traditional college age group. Community Foundation scholarships can help cover tuition, books, and on-campus housing.

John R Stockman Scholarship

The John R. Stockman Scholarship was created to provide a life-advancement opportunity to an ambitious, driven young person who may require financial assistance to achieve higher education.

Mary J. Yamamoto Memorial Scholarship

The Mary J. Yamamoto Memorial Scholarship helps young women graduating high school seniors from Nevada and Michigan who will be attending accredited colleges, universities, trade schools to obtain a 2 or 4-year degree or certificate. This scholarship is established in memory of Mary J. Yamamoto to support equal access to education.

Nevada Air National Guard Scholarship

The Chief Master Sergeant Gerald L. Larson Nevada Air National Guard Scholarship provides support for active enlisted members of the Nevada Air National Guard or the dependent of active members to attend the University of Nevada, Reno.

The Officer Mike Scofield Memorial Scholarship supports graduates or graduating seniors of northern Nevada high schools.
