About the Department

The Nevada Department of Education (NDE or Department) leads and collaborates with Nevada's 17 school districts and the State Public Charter School Authority to advance educational equity Statewide. Early Childhood Literacy & Readiness Programs Grant

The Early Childhood Literacy & Readiness Programs Grant was established with the passage of Senate Bill (SB) 460 in June 2025 during the 83rd session of the Nevada Legislature. These funds are intended to establish an innovative new program or to expand an existing early literacy program that supports children less than the age of six years old, their families, and early childhood professionals. 

Funds awarded through the competitive application process must supplement and not supplant existing state or federal funds

Goals and Priorities

Priority will be given to applicants who:

• Have demonstrated sustained success in improving the literacy and readiness for entering kindergarten of children less than 6 years of age; OR
• Provide services to geographical areas with higher proportion of children entering kindergarten who have demonstrated a deficit across early learning domains during the immediately preceding two years. 

Participation and Evaluation

Each program supported by a grant awarded must:

• Serve children who are less than 6 years of age;
• Be evidence-based;
• Provide appropriate individualized accommodations and supports for children with disabilities;
• Include a plan of reporting accountability for the performance of the program; and
• Include an implementation plan which is financially sound and proposes to use all funds awarded within FY27.

CommonSpirit Health offers the Community Health Improvement Grant to enhance health equity and service systems for underserved populations. Child & Family Mental Well-Being Grants

To qualify for Child and Family Mental Well-Being funding, your program or service must focus on families with children. Funding priority areas include:

• Mental well-being for children, including: reducing suicide deaths; reducing frequent mental distress, anxiety, and depression; decreasing substance misuse
• Advance prevention and early intervention addressing risk and protective factors
• Expand comprehensive, family-centered, mental well-being programs
• Build trauma-informed systems for young children including evidence-based prevention, behavioral health treatment, or related interventions or programs
• Strengthen community behavioral health capacity and collaborations through coalition-building

Requirements

• A full and complete financial audit conducted within the last two years. Submission must include the entire audit, including any findings and the auditor's letter
• A copy of the organization's 501(c)(3) designation letter or a comparable government designation
• A completed W9
• A completed Supplier Form (a blank copy will be provided in the application)

Additional information

• In Utah and Idaho, applicants can request a total grant award between $5,000 to $100,000 per year for 3 years (up to $300,000 total) for the entire project period. Projects can last between 12 and 36 months and must begin upon receipt of funding.
• In Colorado, Montana, and Nevada, applicants can request a total grant award between $5,000 to $50,000 per year for 2 years (up to $100,000 total) for the entire project period. Projects can last between 12 and 36 months and must begin upon receipt of funding.
• A funding request may not exceed 20 percent of an organization’s annual operating budget, e.g., to be eligible for a $50,000 grant, your organization’s annual operating budget must be at least $250,000.
• In general, small equipment and materials are eligible at no more than a total $5,000 cost, but large equipment, construction, and capital costs are not eligible. Consideration will be given if computer equipment is necessary and vital to the success of the project.

The Nevada Outdoor Education and Recreation Grant Program aims to provide equitable and high-quality outdoor experiences for Nevada students aged 18 and younger. Administered by the Nevada Division of Outdoor Recreation, this program allocates state funds for environmental education and recreation initiatives. Grants of up to $50,000 are available, encouraging projects that enhance academic performance and environmental literacy. The program seeks to bridge social barriers and foster community engagement through increased access to nature.

Columbia Basin Trust

The Trust was created in 1995 to support efforts by the people of the Basin to create a legacy of social, economic and environmental well-being in the Canadian portion of the Columbia River Basin—the region most affected by the Columbia River Treaty.

Mission: The Trust supports efforts by the people of the Basin to create a legacy of social, economic and environmental well-being and to achieve greater self-sufficiency for present and future generations.

Non-profit SMART Grants

Non-Profit SMART Grants support Basin non-profits and First Nations to increase their energy efficiency, generate renewable energy, adapt to the impacts of climate change, and/or reduce their greenhouse gas emissions.

This stream supports solar photovoltaic arrays, energy efficiency retrofits or other building improvements to structures or property.

Eligible organizations must be 501(c)(3) registered nonprofits in Nevada, demonstrate sound leadership, and provide diverse community services. The Foundation prioritizes integrity in program implementation and does not fund schools or football development programs.

The Express Health Information Outreach Awards aim to enhance public health by increasing access to biomedical information for U.S. health professionals and the general public. These awards support projects that improve health information literacy among consumers and caregivers, ensuring they can effectively find and utilize health information. Focused on partnerships and outreach to underrepresented communities, the initiative seeks to promote healthy behaviors, prevent illness, and improve health outcomes through informed decision-making.

The Folklife Community Grant, offered by the Nevada Arts Council, supports small community organizations in presenting folk arts and traditions. Eligible projects include festivals, concerts, and gatherings that engage traditional artists and cultural specialists. The grant aims to strengthen cultural communities in Nevada by fostering artistic expression and collaboration, ensuring that folk arts continue to thrive and contribute to the state's cultural vibrancy and economic vitality.

What does this program do?

It provides loans and grants to Microenterprise Development Organizations (MDOs) to:

• To help microenterprises startup and growth through a Rural Microloan Revolving Fund.
• Provide training and technical assistance to microloan borrowers and micro entrepreneurs.

What is an eligible area?

• Rural areas outside a city or town with a population of fewer than 50,000 residents. Urbanized areas near a city of 50,000 or more may not be eligible.
• The borrower’s headquarters may be based within a larger city so long as the project service area is located in an eligible rural area.
• The lender may be located anywhere.

 What kind of funding is available? 

Grants are available to provide technical assistance to rural micro-entrepreneurs or microenterprises, up to $205,000 annually. Funding at the requested level is not guaranteed, and at least 15 percent matching funds are required.

Loans of $50,000 to $500,000 may be used for establishing a Rural Microloan Revolving Fund managed by the Microenterprise Development Organization. Total aggregate debt is capped at $2.5 million.

The Water & Waste Disposal Loan & Grant Program in Nevada offers crucial funding for rural areas to enhance drinking water systems and manage sewage and solid waste disposal. This initiative supports eligible governmental entities, private nonprofits, and federally-recognized tribes in acquiring and improving essential infrastructure. Funds can also cover associated legal fees and operational costs. This initiative focuses on long-term employment opportunities that ensure a living wage, safe working conditions, and pathways for upward mobility, ultimately fostering economic stability for working families.

The FY26 Literacy Interventionists and Tutoring Programs grant aims to enhance literacy proficiency for K-5 students through direct, on-campus interventions and tutoring. With a focus on supporting public schools designated as 1-star schools, this initiative is led by the Nevada Department of Education, which collaborates with local districts to promote educational equity and improve student outcomes. Funding is available until June 30, 2026, and applicants must prioritize access for eligible students.

School Garden Grant

Overview of the School Garden Grant Program

Senate Bill (SB) 104, passed during the 83rd Nevada Legislative Session (2025), appropriates funds to the Nevada Department of Education (NDE) for allocation to nonprofit organizations to implement school garden programs in public schools.
