Thanks to generous donors, The Community Foundation offers several scholarships each year that benefit students in Northeast Florida who are seeking post-secondary degrees.

Dorothea B. Shaw Scholarship

The Dorothea B. Shaw Scholarship will provide $8,000 ($2,000 per year for 4 years) to support tuition, books, fees, room & board, and degree-related expenses for a student graduating from a Duval County public or private school and attending an accredited post-secondary institution in the Northeastern United States. Northeastern states are identified as: CT, MA, ME, NH, NJ, NY, PA, RI, and VT. In selecting the successful candidate, the review committee will consider academic achievements, leadership experience, desire for personal growth and financial need. 

The Nita M. Lowey 21st Century Community Learning Centers Program provides opportunities for New Jersey communities to enhance academic enrichment and support for students in grades three through twelve. This competitive grant program encourages organizations to offer a variety of services, including tutoring, youth development, and family engagement initiatives. Eligible entities include non-profits, schools, and local government agencies, aiming to address the needs of students in low-performing schools.

The Carolyn Jane Scott Charitable Trust, managed by Wells Fargo Bank, supports 501(c)(3) organizations primarily in New Jersey. It funds a variety of areas including education, health, and the arts, with grants typically ranging from $15,000 to $25,000. The Trust prioritizes requests that demonstrate community need and administrative stability, while excluding individuals and for-profit entities. Its mission embodies a commitment to charitable, scientific, literary, and educational purposes.

The HRG Charitable Foundation Scholarship, administered by Scholarship America, aims to eliminate financial barriers for current high school seniors in the mid-Atlantic region pursuing STEM degrees. Department of Law & Public Safety

Under the direction of the Attorney General, the Office of the Attorney General and Department of Law & Public Safety are dedicated to making New Jersey safe for all its residents and visitors. Its diverse and complex responsibilities focus on protecting the lives and property of New Jersey citizens. In addition to providing statewide law enforcement and emergency response services, this Department and its approximately 7,700 employees are responsible for protecting citizens’ civil and consumer rights, promoting highway traffic safety, maintaining public confidence in the alcoholic beverage, gaming and racing industries and providing legal services and counsel to other state agencies.

Cops in Shops Summer Shore Initiative

PurposeFounded in 1991, and originally known as The Century Council, the Foundation for Advancing Alcohol Responsibility (Responsibility.org), is a national non-profit organization dedicated to combating underage drinking, the Cops in Shops program offers a unique approach to preventing the illegal purchase of alcohol by underage persons through a "partnership" of retail licensed establishments and the law enforcement community. The program also targets adults who purchase alcoholic beverages for underage individuals.

Specifically, undercover police officers work cooperatively with retail licensed establishments by posing as employees or patrons in the licensed premises to stop anyone under the age of 21 who attempts to purchase alcohol or use fictitious identification. The Cops in Shops program advertises and educates youth, adults and parents about the legal repercussions of underage drinking through the use of posters (advertised at point of sale). 

The Innovation and Research Fellowship Program (IRFP) Grant, sponsored by the New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development, aims to foster technological research and support the innovation ecosystem in New Jersey. It encourages Ph.D. candidates and graduates to collaborate with local science and technology firms. Grants may be awarded for up to two years, contingent upon funding availability, and are intended to primarily fund research and innovation activities.

SSUS State STD Program 

Purpose For Which the Grant Program Funds Shall be Used 

Applicants are able to request 1) Disease Intervention Specialist (DIS) staff to conduct disease investigation and intervention activities, also known as Partner Services; AND/OR 2) request funds to provide statewide safety net coverage of STD testing for men and women under 30 years of age that do not have insurance or other means to obtain STD testing; AND/OR 3) expand existing, local health STD clinical services to increase hours of operation and persons served for STD testing and treatment; AND/OR 4) provide integration of STD and HIV Services.

Qualifications Needed By Application To be Considered For a Grant

• The provision of syphilis (and other potential emerging STD needs) field investigation and follow-up. Funding is intended to cover DIS staff salary, fringe and related DIS expenses.

• Expansion of local health STD Clinic services by adding clinical staff that will allow for expanded hours and services.

The Diminished Tree Species Grant Program focuses on restoring native tree species crucial for biodiversity and forest health. The Small Business Transportation Technical Assistance Center (Region 1) is funded by the U.S. Department of Transportation to provide critical support for small businesses in the transportation sector. This initiative, under NOFO Number OST/OSDBU-2026-SBTTAC-Region 1-FY2026-1, aims to establish a center that offers technical assistance and resources for small and disadvantaged businesses, ensuring their growth and success in the transportation industry.

The Ruth Danley and William Enoch Moore Charitable Fund Grant is a private foundation based in Pittsburgh, established in 1992. It focuses on philanthropy, specifically supporting K-12 education for Native American children living on reservations. The foundation directs its grants primarily to regions preferred by donors, including several states in the Northeast and Midwest, aiming to improve educational opportunities and foster community development in underserved populations.

The CFNJ: Sheila Williamson Memorial Health Grant supports grassroots initiatives aimed at promoting health equity in underserved communities. With funding ranging from $2,500 to $5,000, the grant seeks to effect lasting change and foster community-driven solutions addressing social and economic inequities in New Jersey.

The CFNJ: George A. Ohl, Jr. Health-Care Services Grant supports initiatives that enhance healthcare services, focusing on innovative programs and equipment, especially for curing infantile paralysis. Grants ranging from $5,000 to $11,000 are available for non-profit organizations in New Jersey directly improving health services for underserved communities. This funding aims to promote equity and inclusivity, addressing systemic health disparities while fostering community-driven solutions.

The CFNJ: George & Yvonne Alkemade Vision Health Grant aims to support organizations that assist the blind community by alleviating challenges posed by vision loss. This grant focuses on enhancing quality of life and ensuring comfort for individuals affected by such conditions. Eligible organizations must be community-driven and address inequities, while funds cannot be used for animal research. Funding amounts range from $10,000 to $45,000, with one to four grants awarded.

The Community Library Adult Literacy & Career Pathway Grant Program aims to enhance Adult Literacy Services in New Jersey by providing additional resources for adult literacy, including digital literacy and career pathway training. This initiative targets increased employability for residents, particularly those in low-wage jobs, by offering essential skills training and certifications. Priority is given to programs that improve digital literacy and access, ensuring a broader impact on community members seeking job advancement.

The Consolidated Adult Basic Skills (ABS) and Integrated English Literacy and Civics Education (IELCE) Grant Program aims to enhance adult education and literacy through partnerships among government entities. This initiative will run from July 1, 2025, to June 30, 2026.

TB Prevention and Control Regional TB Specialty Clinic Services

Purpose for Which the Grant Program Funds Shall be Used

To provide clinical care, treatment, nurse case management and/or outreach services to TB cases and suspects, their associated contacts and Class B1/B2 immigrants and refugees for a defined group of local health jurisdictions.

The Hazardous Discharge Site Remediation Fund provides grants and loans to public and private entities for the assessment, investigation, and cleanup of hazardous substance discharges at brownfield sites. Established in 1993, it aims to support redevelopment efforts by covering 100% of assessment costs and up to 75% of remedial action costs. Funded by a portion of the New Jersey Corporate Business Tax, it fosters collaboration between the Department of Environmental Protection and the Economic Development Authority.

The CFNJ: Church in Radburn Christian Values Grant aims to support organizations that reflect Christian values through impactful community engagement. This grant prioritizes initiatives in Bergen and Passaic Counties that enhance spiritual growth and advocate for social justice, particularly for marginalized populations. By fostering compassion, service, and love, the grant seeks to empower diverse organizations to address community needs and promote equity, with funding ranging from $15,000 to $50,000 for selected projects.

The CFNJ: Svetlana Stalin Welcome to New Jersey Grant aims to support recent immigrants in their transition to life in New Jersey. This grant focuses on providing essential resources such as language acquisition, cultural integration, legal assistance, and economic empowerment. With funding ranging from $5,000 to $15,000, the grant encourages community-driven initiatives that address the needs of underserved populations, ensuring equitable access to resources and support.
