Scholarships

The Community Foundation of the North State manages many scholarship funds that are awarded to graduating high school seniors as well as students already in an undergraduate program. Some scholarships were started by families or individuals; others by businesses or organizations. All scholarships share one important focus: helping young people reach their educational goals.

Tri Counties Bank Endowed Scholarship Fund

Income-Based and Merit Awards are offered from this scholarship fund to high school seniors living in counties around the State of California.

The Tri Counties Bank Endowed Scholarship Fund was established by the Board of North Valley Bank in memory of Don Carter, who served as President and CEO of North Valley Bancorp and North Valley Bank from 1986 to 1997. The fund provides scholarships to graduating high school seniors throughout California who are pursuing higher education. In 2014, the fund became the Tri Counties Bank Endowed Scholarship Fund with the completed merger between North Valley Bancorp and Tri Counties Bank.

The Tri Counties Bank Income-Based Scholarship

The Tri Counties Bank Income-Based Scholarship program seeks to advance higher education for economically-challenged, community-minded students. Tri Counties Bank competitively awards 60 $1,500 scholarships to graduating high school seniors with significant financial need, attending a trade school, a 4-year college/university, or community college. Awards will be made to high school seniors who demonstrate a keen interest in public service, community engagement, and business entrepreneurship – the three pillars of Tri Counties Bank’s mission to help to uplift people of all races, cultures and ethnicities – especially our economically-disadvantaged youth.

Willis H. Jondahl Memorial Fund Scholarship

This fund is created to promote continuing educational opportunities for obstetrical nursing personnel of Cameron County hospitals, and midwifery education or training to promote the best possible nursing care for obstetrical patients.

The course(s)/seminar must be from an accredited source, offering  CEU’s, and must be expected to reasonably improve the employee’s  performance in the OB/GYN area.

Must achieve a grade "C" or above on graded courses and must file  documentation of grade(s) received with the Jondahl Fund Committee. 

For non-graded courses (seminars/workshops) documentation of  attendance must be filed, and CEUs earned.

The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts Grant supports innovative visual arts projects through a diverse grantmaking program. It funds artists and organizations that challenge the status quo and promote inclusivity in the contemporary art landscape. Grants are available for curatorial research, exhibitions, and public programs, encouraging creativity and exploration. The foundation prioritizes projects that reflect the diverse population of the United States and reject bigotry, fostering an environment of free expression and artistic growth.

The Dean and Janice Butts Scholarship aims to support students pursuing post-secondary education, vocational training, or college, with a preference for students of color. This initiative is part of a broader commitment by the Community Foundation of Elmira-Corning and the Finger Lakes, Inc. to address various community needs, including education and wellness, while fostering awareness and creative solutions to future challenges.

The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation's College Scholarship Program offers financial support to high-achieving high school seniors with financial need. Scholarships cover significant educational expenses, including tuition and living costs, potentially providing up to $55,000 annually. Eligible applicants must maintain a GPA of 3.75 or higher and plan to enroll in an accredited four-year institution. This competitive program not only alleviates financial burdens but also connects students to a network of over 3,400 Cooke Scholars.

Dr. Edward and Anne Link Scholarship

Shelby County residents maintaining a college GPA of not less than 3.0 and are pursuing a major in visual arts, performing arts, or creative writing toward a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree. Art education majors are not eligible. No recipient may be awarded this scholarship more than once.

Selection based upon:

Academic ability, community and school service, and recommendations.

The Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Topical PCORI Funding aims to support high-quality, patient-centered comparative clinical effectiveness research (CER) focusing on individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). The Community Foundation of Hancock County offers educational support for Hancock County, Indiana adults who are seeking post-secondary training or schooling to improve their career prospects. Nancy King “Dare to Dream” Fund

The purpose of this fund is to honor the Greenfield Kiwanis Club, a group whose members were like family to Nancy, through the provision of scholarships to persons who wish to obtain additional education.

This funding opportunity supports studies that explore modifiable risk factors, biological responses, and improved identification of at-risk individuals. The initiative seeks to address the concerning rise in these cancers among young adults, facilitating essential prevention and control strategies. Applicants can choose between exploratory or research project formats, with project durations ranging from 2 to 5 years.

The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation offers the Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship to outstanding community college students with financial need, providing up to $55,000 per year for two to three years to cover educational expenses. This selective scholarship supports students in completing their bachelor's degrees at accredited institutions. Recipients benefit from personalized advising and a robust network of Cooke Scholars. Eligible candidates must have a minimum GPA of 3.5 and demonstrate unmet financial need, ensuring accessibility to higher education.

Scholarship Program

The Community Foundation of Northern Nevada’s Scholarship Program is intended to help students cover the ever-increasing cost of tuition. Some of our scholarships are based on financial need, but others represent an award for achievement. These scholarships typically go to students who have excelled in an academic area or have shown they can balance academics, volunteer work, and extracurricular activities. There are also scholarships designated for students who have overcome adversity, students pursuing degrees in high-need areas, and adult learners outside the traditional college age group. Mary J. Yamamoto Memorial Scholarship

The Mary J. Yamamoto Memorial Scholarship helps young women graduating high school seniors from Nevada and Michigan who will be attending accredited colleges, universities, trade schools to obtain a 2 or 4-year degree or certificate. This scholarship is established in memory of Mary J. Yamamoto to support equal access to education. 

Taos Community Foundation

Edgar Meyer Scholarship

The Edgar F. Meyer Scholarship was established in 2022 by his family. Edgar F. Meyer was a distinguished biochemist, creative scientist and passionate educator who died in 2015. This scholarship is awarded in E.F. Meyer’s memory to students who are planning to study and build a career in the fields of healthcare and /or education and who show creativity, drive, and the ability to overcome hardship in pursuing their dreams.

The scholarship will be available to seniors graduating from Taos County High Schools who plan to pursue advanced studies by attending a 4 year college or university. The Scholarship will also consider those applying to 2 year vocational or trade schools.

The award is up to $4,000 paid out at $1,000 per year for up to 4 years for those students attending a 4 year institution or up to $2,000 paid out at $1,000 per year for 2 years for those students attending a 2 year institution if a 2.5 GPA is maintained and all other requirements are met.

The Collegiate Community Hub Grant, offered by the United States Tennis Association (USTA) in collaboration with the ITA, provides up to $10,000 to collegiate organizations operating a tennis facility as a new 'Collegiate Community Hub.' This initiative aims to enhance community engagement by offering accessible tennis instruction and playing opportunities for all ages. Eligible facilities must meet specific operational criteria and demonstrate their commitment to serving the local community.

The Venturous Capital Grants aim to empower small and medium-sized not-for-profit theaters to produce bold and experimental new plays. Grants range from $5,000 to $35,000, covering extraordinary costs that enable productions to thrive. The program supports text-based, author-driven works that are ambitious, challenging, and innovative, while emphasizing the importance of playwright compensation and adhering to AEA standards. This initiative fosters creativity and helps overcome financial barriers in theater production.

The Simeon J. Fortin Charitable Foundation, founded in 1986, champions cancer research initiatives aimed at finding a cure. It supports relevant projects and fellowships within medical and research institutions, ensuring a significant impact on health-related research. The grant review process is conducted by The Medical Foundation, in coordination with the King Trust Postdoctoral Fellowships, enhancing collaboration and funding opportunities for innovative research in oncology.

Nancy Driscoll’s lifetime wish was to support young women in discovering their “magic.” Whether working directly with young people or coaching board and staff members at organizations large and small, Nancy always found a way to inspire, lift up, and empower.

Nancy was also a protector of nature. Nancy felt that the forests and mountains of Northern California were her temple, and she worked tirelessly to protect wild and sacred places and to bring our community into nature’s presence.

The Tom and Nancy Driscoll Foundation Scholarship was established to benefit and support Siskiyou County high school graduates planning to attend an accredited two or four-year college or vocational school.

The National Cancer Institute's STRIPE program aims to advance cancer therapy by investigating the effects of radionuclide-emitted radiation. This initiative encourages multidisciplinary research to understand how radiation impacts normal tissues and tumor cells, ultimately improving therapeutic outcomes. By consolidating various funding mechanisms, STRIPE seeks to lower entry barriers for researchers, enhance the scientific foundation of radiopharmaceutical therapy, and foster innovative treatment strategies. The curriculum consists of 14 lessons focused on rider safety and skills, designed to be delivered over 6-8 weeks. Eligible schools can apply for grants or purchase the program to access these invaluable resources.

The Award for Graduate Study in American History, offered by the National Society of The Colonial Dames of America in the State of Illinois (NSCDA-IL), provides $3,000 annually to a graduate student. This award supports research that enhances understanding of America's development from colonial times to the present, with a preference for those intending to teach. NSCDA-IL fosters appreciation for our national heritage through educational initiatives and historic preservation.

The Tyndale House Foundation Grant supports faith-driven organizations that align with their mission to serve both Word and Deed. Focused on high-kingdom impact, this grant funds a variety of projects in areas like literature, training, education, compassion, and discipleship. Eligible applicants must be U.S. 501(c)(3) organizations or have a fiscal sponsor if based internationally. Grants are not available for individuals, scholarships, or political projects.

The Rocky Talkie Search and Rescue Award, sponsored by the American Alpine Club, provides $75,000 annually to support underfunded Search and Rescue (SAR) teams in the U.S. and Canada. The initiative aims to enhance community awareness of the vital contributions made by volunteer SAR members. Grants include $10,000 for five selected teams and a special $25,000 award for the Featured Rescue of the Year, spotlighting exceptional volunteer-led rescue operations and their impact on mountain safety.

Community Foundation of Randolph County

Our mission is to bring people and resources together to strengthen the quality of life, both now and in the future, for the residents of Randolph County.

The Community Foundation’s work falls into three major categories: grant-making, donor service, and community convening. Our most visible activities are the grants and scholarships we award each year. Most of these awards come from income earned from permanently endowed funds. Scholarships and other grants come from funds that donors have established for specific purposes.

East Central Ag Crop Insurance Agency Scholarship Fund

Wanting to give back to the community of Randolph County, the owners of East Central Ag Crop Insurance Agency felt there was a need to create a scholarship solely for those students who are pursuing higher education in agriculture, whose ultimate goal is an agricultural-based career. It is awarded to a Randolph County senior pursuing education in the field of agriculture with a G.P.A. of 2.7 or higher.

Jerald W. Peterson Memorial Scholarship

To provide financial support to graduates of Groton, Webster, and Langford high schools.

The Retail Food Safety Regulatory Association Collaboration program supports state, local, tribal, and territorial (SLTT) food safety initiatives to mitigate food-borne illness risks. Funded by the FDA, this initiative aids SLTT agencies in research and intervention implementation, aiming to enhance public health and establish a cohesive national food safety framework. Eligible applicants include non-profit organizations connected to higher education institutions, focusing on retail food safety.
