Max was well known in Marion, having served as Marion County Sheriff, educator, businessman, and coach.

Created in memory of the late Doris Elaine McBride (1928-2022), the McBride Family Scholarship Fund was created by Russ & Marilyn McBride in 2023.  Applicant should have attended any Marion County high school and will major in education, medicine, or health care.

Marion Community Foundation

Since 1998, area residents have been turning to Marion Community Foundation to make their philanthropic giving as effective as possible. We are a public charity serving thousands of people who share a common concern … improving the quality of life in Marion County. We use distributions from the more than 500 charitable funds — created by generous, local donors — to award more than $2.5 million in grants and scholarships each year to many of the humanitarian, educational and cultural organizations in this remarkable community we call home.

Cornell Goodman Scholarship

Adam and Gina Goodman created this scholarship fund in 2011 to honor the memory of Adam’s grandfathers Maurice V. Cornell and Bertram Goodman, longtime residents of the Marion area.

Maurice (1912-2001) was a graduate of Mt. Vernon High School and The Ohio State University. He held membership in Lombda Chi Alpha fraternity, Elks Lodge #32, 32nd degree Mason, Rotary, First Presbyterian Church, the Marion Country Club, and Symposiarchs. He served in the US Navy during World War II in the South Pacific. He was vice president of Marion Power Shovel for eight years and retired as the regional manager of Bucyrus-Erie Co. after 10 years.

Bertram (1921-2003) was an orthodontist in Marion from 1946-1980. He was a US Navy veteran who served in the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Marion Lions Club and Temple Israel.

The scholarship supports students who have attended a high school in Marion County. The fund gives special consideration to students pursuing a college degree in a business-oriented field, such as accounting, economics, finance, or marketing. Recipients must rank in the upper 25th percentile of their high school graduating class, or, if in college, maintain a GPA of 3.0 or better.

The Replogle, Greg Scholarship, established by the Beatrice Educational Foundation, offers a $1,000 award to a graduating senior from Beatrice High School pursuing a nursing career. Candidates must maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA and be active members of their class. Preference is given to students involved in extracurricular activities during their junior and senior years. This scholarship aims to support students in their higher education endeavors, ensuring they have the financial resources needed for success.

The Russell, John; Dentistry Scholarship, offered by the Beatrice Educational Foundation, aims to support a graduating senior from Beatrice High School pursuing a career in dentistry. This $2,000 scholarship is disbursed in two installments, contingent on continued enrollment in a dentistry program. It is designed for students with financial need, providing invaluable assistance for tuition, room and board, or books during their undergraduate studies.

Bethany's Butterflies Scholarship Program, managed by the St. Croix Valley Foundation, offers up to $500 for Wisconsin students aged 21 or younger with an Individualized Education Program (IEP). This scholarship supports enhanced learning and recreational experiences in Polk, St. Croix, or Pierce County. Applications are reviewed monthly without a hard deadline, as long as funds are available. This initiative honors the memory of Bethany Mazur, aiming to create lasting impacts through educational opportunities.

The Allen C. & Leurene F. Hodgkins Scholarship Fund, established by the Maine Community Foundation, offers renewable scholarships for high school seniors or recent graduates from Lamoine, Maine. This fund supports those pursuing post-secondary education, prioritizing academic achievement and financial need. Founded in 1983, the Maine Community Foundation connects resources to enhance community well-being, ensuring that students from Lamoine can access the education they need to succeed.

The Cad and Dorothy Kelley Scholarship Fund, established by the Maine Community Foundation in 1983, supports two graduating seniors residing in Lubec to pursue post-secondary education. This initiative reflects the foundation's commitment to strategic giving and community leadership, offering personalized service and deep local expertise. By facilitating educational opportunities, the fund aims to empower young individuals and contribute to the development of their community in Maine.

The Dunkirk Community Funds: Ella & Irene Cunningham Scholarship, established in 1995, provides financial support to students residing within Dunkirk, IN, particularly those pursuing higher education in business or education. Preference is given to female applicants. The fund transitioned to The Portland Foundation in 2023, following the merger with The Dunkirk Foundation, continuing its mission to empower local students through educational opportunities and promote community growth.

The Diane Ober and Kevin Hubbard Memorial Blue Sky Fund, established by the Maine Community Foundation, supports residents of Islesboro and graduates of Islesboro Central School who are 23 or older. It encourages projects and studies that nurture individual passions, honoring the adventurous spirits of Diane Ober and Kevin Hubbard. Preference is given to applicants who have shown resilience, kindness, and a desire to learn. This fund aims to foster personal growth and community development.

Davis Scholarship Fund, established by the Maine Community Foundation, offers renewable financial support to residents of Denmark, Maine, who are pursuing a college or university education or equivalent post-secondary studies. Founded in 1983, the Maine Community Foundation focuses on strategic giving and community leadership, aiming to strengthen local initiatives and empower individuals through education. The Friendship Memorial Scholarship Fund, established in 1967 and managed by the Maine Community Foundation, supports high school seniors from Friendship, Maine, in pursuing post-secondary education. This scholarship aims to empower local students by providing financial assistance for their educational endeavors. Since its transition to the Maine Community Foundation in 2007, it has continued to foster educational opportunities for residents, ensuring that the legacy of community support remains strong.

The Dunkirk Community Funds: Dr. H. L. Shroyer Christian Love Scholarship, established in 1970, provides scholarships to high school graduates from Jay County and nearby areas who exemplify Christ’s love in their daily lives. The scholarship aims to support students who demonstrate strong moral character and faith through an essay on the significance of Christ’s love. This fund was transferred to the Portland Foundation in 2023, enhancing its mission to foster community growth and opportunity.

The Amazing Grace Sulak Scholarship, established in 2017 by the Community Foundation of the Lowcountry, honors Grace Sulak and aims to support high school seniors from Bluffton, May River, or Hilton Head Island High Schools. The Middle Ground Program Grant

National PTA, in collaboration with the New York Life Foundation, is offering grants of up to $3,500 to support middle school PTAs in creating The Middle Ground—a dedicated, supportive space for students experiencing grief and loss with opportunities for peer connection, creative expression, storytelling and support.

Alton French Scholarship Fund, established by the Maine Community Foundation in 1983, offers renewable scholarships to residents of Lincolnville, Camden, Hope, Appleton, Rockport, Northport, and Islesboro pursuing post-secondary education. The Cindy Colglazier Scholarship, managed by the Brown County Community Foundation, aims to support students pursuing education in healthcare fields at accredited institutions. This scholarship is available to residents of Bartholomew, Brown, and Monroe Counties, including high school graduates, current college students, and G.E.D. graduates.
