Scholarships

Cherokee Nation Foundation offers a diverse range of scholarships to help reverse the trend of rising student debt. Students may receive up to two CNF scholarships per academic year. All opportunities are reserved for Cherokee Nation citizens, unless otherwise noted in the description.

Luke Horton & Justin Phillips Memorial Scholarship

Applicant must be a Cherokee Nation citizen living inside or outside of the Cherokee Nation reservation. This scholarship is for general education with an emphasis on Information Technology and requires a minimum GPA of 2.0. It is for full-time students in undergraduate or graduate school or students going to vo-tech school.

Neuroscience & Society Grants

Applicants may request up to $150,000 in funding for projects over a period of up to 18 months.

Neuroscience and society is the interdisciplinary study of how neuroscience informs and reflects society, and practical work to put these ideas into action. Neuroscience and society includes fields where neuroscience interfaces with the world, such as ethics, law, humanities, medicine, arts, social sciences, policy, education, journalism, and public engagement. This list is meant to be illustrative, not exhaustive. Other disciplines may fall within the purview of neuroscience and society. 

While neuroscience and society is not the same as neuroethics, bioethics, or science and technology studies, there are areas of overlap. 

Another way we think about it: Neuroscience & society is a paradigm for how we can teach neuroscience to people, train people to do societally relevant neuroscience-focused work, and engage diverse communities of people to shepherd the development and application of neuroscience.   

The PLTW Launch program offers grants to public schools for implementing Project Lead The Way modules. Grantees must provide at least one module in the 2025-2026 academic year, with an additional module in subsequent years. The total grant is $10,000, with $7,500 allocated for the first year and $2,500 for the second. Annual reporting and surveys are required to ensure program effectiveness and continuous improvement.

The ASTR Thomas Marshall Graduate Student Awards aim to support graduate students researching theatre or performance by assisting with the costs of attending the annual ASTR conference. The Margaret L. Richey Scholarship, offered by the Delaware Community Foundation, provides a one-time award of $50,000 to support students from Delaware who are accepted into accredited medical school programs in the U.S. Applicants must maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0 to be considered for continued support. This scholarship is part of DCF's commitment to enhance educational opportunities and promote equity in the community.

The Aaaron Ardoin Foundation offers Research and Education Grants aimed at supporting organizations that address the needs of individuals and families affected by sickle cell disease. Ryan Lesher Student Athlete Memorial Scholarship (NCF)

Provides scholarships to Council Rock South and North High Schools for students who participated in multiple sports and maintained a GPA over 3.0.

The CDC's grant aims to enhance global public health emergency responses by engaging partners to improve rapid detection and intervention strategies. It seeks to build sustainable programs that strengthen resilience in communities affected by humanitarian crises. With periodic openings for applications, this initiative ensures a diverse roster of partners ready to tackle emerging public health threats effectively. The program underscores the importance of federal support in managing complex health emergencies worldwide.

The Dr. Ernest J. Ring Academic Development Grant, offered by the Society of Interventional Radiology Foundation, supports early-career interventional radiology faculty (within 7 years of appointment) in conducting research. The grant provides up to $150,000 ($75,000 annually for two years) to facilitate the development of innovative therapies that enhance patient care. Eligible applicants must hold an MD, DO, PhD, or equivalent and be members of the Society of Interventional Radiology.

The Jack and Jill of America Foundation offers College Prep Grants aimed at enhancing college readiness for African American children. These grants are available to 501(c)(3) organizations dedicated to building a pipeline of talent. Eligible applicants include public agencies and organizations aligned with the Foundation's mission. Wehrli Custom Fabrication Scholarship Fund

The Wehrli Custom Fabrication company created the scholarship to aid students interested in pursuing a career in the trades. The Fund supports two annual scholarships. The first is for a student attending a trade school or 2-year college, and the second benefits a student attending a 4-year college or university. Eligible areas of study include welding, machine tooling, auto mechanics, auto body, business management, and mechanical, industrial, manufacturing, or agricultural engineering.

Henry C. McBay Faculty Research Fellowship

Dr. Henry Ransom Cecil McBay (May 29, 1914 – 1995) was an American chemist renowned for his excellence in teaching and mentorship. He received numerous awards for his commitment to encouraging disadvantaged students to pursue careers in the chemical sciences, including the American Chemical Society Award for Encouraging Disadvantaged Students into Careers in the Chemical Sciences.

The Henry C. McBay Faculty Research Fellowship is open to faculty members at UNCF member institutions and supports faculty-led research conducted in partnership with a student researcher or intern.

The fellowship provides:

• Up to $15,000 to support faculty research in a field of the recipient’s choosing
• Up to $3,000 to support a student researcher/intern
• Total possible award: $18,000

All funded projects must be completed within one academic year and no later than Spring 2027.

Reporting Requirements

Each principal investigator is required to:

• Submit a written final report on the research project at the end of Spring 2027
• A published paper or submitted manuscript may be substituted for the final report
• Submit a financial report detailing fellowship expenditures within six months of completing the grant

The NIH HEAL Initiative PainCare Clinician Training Program (PCTP) offers Mentored Clinical Scientist Development Awards (K08) aimed at nurturing a new generation of independent investigators. The Academic Transition Grant supports interventional radiologists over 40 who are beginning academic careers after years in non-academic practice. This grant aims to help establish independent research records to facilitate successful academic careers. Eligible applicants include full-time faculty in accredited institutions in the US or Canada, holding relevant degrees and demonstrating a commitment to research. The funding is designated for pilot projects that advance interventional radiology.
