Affordable Housing Infrastructure Grant

Created in 2025 by the Utah Legislature, the program establishes a grant fund to support infrastructure for affordable housing. The grants are awarded to qualified public entities within a county of the first class (Salt Lake County).

Qualified public entities within Salt Lake County include: county and municipalities, public housing authorities, special service or improvement districts, and public transit districts.

Key Requirements

• Affordable Housing Unit (Rental): A unit affordable to a household earning no more than 80% of the area median income (AMI).
• Affordable Housing Unit (For Sale): A unit affordable to a household earning no more than 120% of the AMI. It must also be sold to an owner-occupier and have a deed restriction for at least five years.
• Minimum Project Size: A grant proposal must support a project with at least 50 affordable housing units.
• Funding Ratio: For every $20,000 of grant funding awarded, the supported infrastructure must result in at least one unit of affordable housing. A grant cannot be awarded if this requirement is not met.

The Affordable Housing Infrastructure Grant is composed of two distinct applications, which are both accessed through the GOED grant portal. The first is the Planning and Design application, and the second is the Construction application.

Planning and Design Application

Qualified public entities that do not already have construction plans in place will be required to apply for funds related to Planning and Design. Once the Planning and Design process is completed and approved by the Affordable Housing Infrastructure Grant Board, approved applicants will be able to apply for funds through the Construction application.

However, existing plans will need to be reviewed and approved by the Affordable Housing Infrastructure Grant Board. The Kennecott Charitable Foundation supports vulnerable populations in the Salt Lake Region through grants to local charities and non-profits. By raising funds via visitor fees and contributions from local organizations, the foundation aims to assist those in need, including the poor, homeless, veterans, and seniors. With a focus on underserved communities in Salt Lake and Tooele counties, it emphasizes aid to areas adjacent to Kennecott's operations.

The UCCU Donation & Sponsorship Program supports local causes that enhance the quality of life for residents in various Utah counties. Charitable organizations must be registered and preferably 501(c)(3) or nonprofit. UCCU prioritizes requests related to hunger, health, and homelessness while generally excluding sponsorships for political, private, or international entities. This commitment reflects their mission of fostering community well-being and financial stability.

The Medical Scientist Training Program (MSTP) aims to cultivate skilled clinician-scientist leaders to meet the nation's biomedical research demands. It supports domestic organizations in developing dual-degree training that integrates clinical and research education, leading to both a clinical degree (e.g., M.D., D.O.) and a Ph.D. Through comprehensive mentoring and career development, MSTP prepares trainees for impactful careers in health-related research, ensuring a robust pipeline of qualified scientists.

The National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI) is launching a Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) aimed at enhancing genomic research through the development and distribution of high-value resources. This initiative encourages collaborative efforts in genomic resource development and the integration of data science in clinical applications. While applications are not currently being accepted, prospective applicants are urged to prepare meaningful collaborations and projects ahead of the formal solicitation.

The ORACLE 3C initiative focuses on advancing research into chronic conditions, coinfections, and comorbidities related to HIV. It aims to support early-career investigators through innovative approaches that diverge from existing methodologies. It aims to enhance research careers and infrastructure through a competitive application process. Funded by the US Dept. of Health & Human Services, this initiative invites eligible entities to apply, ensuring that only high-quality proposals undergo peer review for potential funding.

The National Library of Medicine (NLM) is seeking applications to establish Regional Medical Libraries within the Network of the National Library of Medicine (NNLM). Since 1965, the NNLM has enhanced public health information access through partnerships with libraries and health organizations. The initiative aims to improve community engagement, disseminate NIH research findings, and foster collaborations to promote health literacy and access to biomedical data, thereby supporting local clinical research efforts.

The National Institutes on Deafness and other Communication Disorders (NIDCD) is inviting applications for a Coordinating Center for the National Human Ear Resource Network. This initiative aims to enhance research on auditory and vestibular disorders by providing essential resources, facilitating collaboration among laboratories, and promoting the use of human ear tissues in studies. Jean Hunse Scholarship

Jean Hunse became a certified public accountant in 1943, started and later served as president of the American Association of Women CPA's, and opened her own accounting firm in Kalamazoo in 1977. This scholarship was established in her honor and provides financial assistance to students studying business at Western Michigan University.

The National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases (NIAMS) is launching a Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) under the NIH HEAL initiative to enhance research on joint health and pain. This initiative aims to refine the understanding of joint tissues and pain mechanisms, expand clinical phenotyping, and support preclinical testing of novel therapies. This program is designed to cultivate the next generation of leaders in clinical research and foster innovative health solutions.

The Gabriella Miller Kids First Pediatric Research Program invites applications for whole genome sequencing of pediatric cohorts. This initiative aims to explore the genetic basis of childhood cancers and congenital anomalies, enhancing our understanding of their etiology. Researchers are encouraged to propose sequencing methods, including whole genome and exome sequencing, to investigate genetic contributions and associations with cancer risk. The resulting data will be integrated into the Kids First Data Resource for broader research collaboration.

The Pathways to Enable Secure Open-Source Ecosystems (PESOSE) program, funded by the National Science Foundation, aims to transform open-source research into sustainable ecosystems that tackle national and societal challenges. This initiative promotes innovation across various sectors, including AI and cybersecurity, by fostering strong governance and broad user engagement. PESOSE invites proposals to establish and enhance open-source ecosystems, ensuring their safety, security, and effectiveness in meeting emergent needs.
