Richard and Edith shared a deep commitment to community, teaching, and hard, purposeful work. Richard served in the United States Navy during the Korean War and went on to a long career as a lineman with Public Service Gas & Electric in New Jersey. Edith devoted her life to educating young students in the elementary classroom. They retired to Augusta County to enjoy the mountains, travel, and remained dedicated to supporting others throughout their lives.

Richard and Edith’s legacy live on through this scholarship, created to empower local students pursuing careers that reflect their values and passions.

The Richard and Edith Robbins Memorial Scholarship supports students from the Community Foundation’s service region who are preparing for careers in education or the electrical trades.

The VA250 Tourism Marketing Program, a collaboration between the VA250 Commission and Virginia Tourism Corporation, aims to promote events and signage related to America’s 250th commemoration. It encourages Virginia communities to prepare for statewide celebrations, driving tourism and supporting the VA250 mission. The program is expected to open for applications at least twice yearly from 2023 to 2025, with a 1:1 cash match requirement for eligible historic sites and museums.

Description

The Artist Catalyst Grant offers one-time support of up to $500 to help artists reach a new point in their development, either by enhancing their craft, accessing a unique opportunity, engaging with the public, or completing a significant project. As a guiding principle, the funded activity should serve as a catalyst, helping to enhance the artist’s practice or career trajectory. Requests most likely to be awarded will clearly articulate compelling before-and-after impact, demonstrating how this investment enables new skills, opportunities, visibility, or momentum that would not occur without the grant.

Our Community Foundation was established in Roanoke in 1988. With our growth, we expanded into the Martinsville/Henry County area in 2005. Today, we administer many hundreds of named endowment funds ranging in size from a minimum of $10,000 to millions of dollars. Jefferson College of Health Sciences Scholarship Fund

Fund provides higher education scholarships to deserving students attending Radford University Carilion.

The South Carolina Biennial Sea Grant Program, managed by the S.C. Sea Grant Consortium, aims to enhance coastal conservation and sustainable development through research. With approximately $500,000 available annually for one- to two-year projects, grants typically range from $30,000 to $80,000. The program encourages collaboration among faculty from member institutions and supports initiatives that improve the social and economic well-being of coastal residents while conserving marine resources.

The Rural Business Development Grants in Virginia provide essential support for small rural businesses, focusing on those with fewer than 50 workers and under $1 million in revenue. The program encourages applications of $99,000 or less, prioritizing projects that address key priorities such as food systems and poverty. Funded projects can include technical assistance, land development, and community economic initiatives, helping enhance business viability and promote sustainable growth in rural areas.

The Corporate Giving Program by the Franklin P. and Arthur W. Perdue Foundation focuses on supporting nonprofit organizations within specific states. They prioritize initiatives that enhance community welfare, especially in agriculture, education, health, and environmental sustainability. Organizations must have 501(c)(3) status to apply, and preference is given to those involving Perdue associates. Ineligible requests include those from religious, political, or individual-focused groups. This program emphasizes broad community benefits over organizational affiliations.

Scholarships are offered to students living in the Richmond region and other Virginia locations. Each scholarship was established by a generous individual, family, or organization with a desire to assist high school students, recent high school graduates, and adult learners to continue their education. 

Moss-Henderson Scholarship

The Moss-Henderson Scholarship Fund was established in 2001 to support the postsecondary educational pursuits of qualifying graduates of Mathews County public schools who plan to enroll in an accredited college or university in the state of Virginia with a preference for those students planning to enroll at the University of Virginia. Students interested in any area of study are encouraged to apply, however, preference will be given to students interested in teaching children with learning disabilities. 

The Creative Community Partnership Grants aim to bolster local and tribal governments' support for the arts in Virginia. Grants of up to $4,500 are available to fund independent arts organizations, focusing on community impact and underserved populations. Eligibility includes independent city, town, county, or tribal governments, while funds cannot be used for performer payments. This initiative fosters a vibrant arts culture by encouraging local investment in creative projects.

The Community Foundation of the Rappahannock River Region

The Community Foundation is a devoted advocate for the vitality and well-being of the Rappahannock River Region. We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that manages and distributes charitable giving in the counties of Stafford, Spotsylvania, King George, and Caroline, and the City of Fredericksburg.

Scholarships

One of The Community Foundation’s strategies for preserving and growing the quality of life in our region is supporting higher education for area students. Generous individuals and families, companies and organizations establish endowed scholarship funds and the proceeds from these funds benefit deserving students. Donors work with foundation staff to determine appropriate criteria for each fund. The Community Foundation currently administers more than fifty scholarship funds.

The Peter D. Johnson Memorial Scholarship Fund

This scholarship is in memory of Peter D. Johnson. Mr. Johnson was a loving husband and father, a concerned and giving member of the community, and had a passion for enjoying all the benefits of water-skiing.

This scholarship is intended to promote the pursuit of excellence in youth and encourage mental and physical development through involvement in community, academics, employment, water ski clubs and other social activities.

The VA Agricultural Conservation Easement Program (ACEP): Wetland Reserve Easement (WRE) provides essential financial and technical assistance for the restoration and protection of wetlands. This program helps landowners enhance habitat for wildlife, improve water quality, and mitigate flooding. NRCS offers various enrollment options, including permanent and 30-year easements, ensuring comprehensive support for landowners. With year-round applications, ACEP is committed to conserving vital agricultural lands and wetlands across Virginia.

The VA Agricultural Conservation Easement Program (ACEP) offers financial and technical assistance to conserve agricultural lands and wetlands, ensuring the long-term viability of the nation’s food supply. Through Agricultural Land Easements (ALE), NRCS collaborates with eligible partners to protect working lands and limit non-agricultural uses. This program not only maintains agricultural productivity but also enhances environmental quality, wildlife habitat, and open space preservation, contributing to sustainable land management practices.

The VA Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) offers vital support to farmers, ranchers, and forest landowners, helping them integrate conservation practices into their operations. This program provides both technical and financial assistance to tackle natural resource concerns like water quality, soil health, and wildlife habitat improvement. Applications are accepted year-round, with funding available for various initiatives including cropland, livestock, and forestry practices, aimed at promoting sustainable agricultural practices across Virginia.

The VA Conservation Stewardship Grant Program, administered by the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service, supports agricultural producers in enhancing conservation efforts. By participating, producers can earn payments based on their conservation performance, focusing on priorities like soil and water quality. With a five-year contract, producers can receive up to $200,000, provided they meet specific stewardship thresholds. This program aims to improve environmental health while supporting diverse agricultural practices across Virginia.

The Virginia Fishery Resource Grant Program, managed by the Virginia Institute of Marine Science, offers funding to enhance coastal fishery resources through innovative proposals. Key priority areas include developing new fishing gear, conducting environmental studies, promoting aquaculture, and advancing seafood technology. The program encourages participation from Virginians in the fishing industry, ensuring their ideas can thrive despite financial constraints, thus fostering sustainable practices and economic growth in the sector.

The Virginia Citizen Water Monitoring Grants support individuals and groups in monitoring water quality across Virginia. These grants fund essential activities like purchasing monitoring equipment and training volunteers. The program aims to generate valuable data for water quality assessment and foster community education on environmental stewardship. With options ranging from mini-grants to larger coordination grants, applicants can secure funding to enhance local water monitoring efforts and address pollution sources effectively.

The VA Forest Legacy Grant Program, administered by the Virginia Department of Forestry, aims to protect vital forestlands threatened by development. Through collaboration with the USDA Forest Service, the program offers federal funding for projects that purchase conservation easements or land from willing owners. This initiative promotes sustainable resource management, preserves wildlife habitats, and ensures clean water and air for Virginians. By safeguarding these forests, the program fosters economic incentives and maintains the ecological integrity of Virginia's natural resources.

The Virginia Trees for Clean Water Grant Program supports communities in enhancing their urban tree canopy to improve water quality and public awareness. With funding ranging from $1,000 to $50,000, projects can include tree plantings and community engagement initiatives. Grants are available for diverse organizations, including local governments and civic groups, aiming to foster long-term environmental benefits and community involvement in tree management.

The Firewise Virginia Community Hazard Mitigation Grant Program provides funding to projects aimed at reducing wildfire risks in Virginia's wildland/urban interface communities. Eligible projects include wildfire hazard assessments, GIS mapping, fuel reduction, and community education initiatives. Priority is given based on the community's assessed wildfire risk and the nature of the project. This is an 80-20 match grant program managed by the Virginia Department of Forestry.

The Virginia Agricultural BMP Cost-Share (VACS) Program offers financial assistance for conservation practices on agricultural lands, significantly reducing landowner expenses. Eligible participants can receive up to $300,000 annually to implement practices that enhance water quality and farm productivity. Applicants must apply through local soil and water conservation districts, with priority given to plans that align with local water quality guidelines. This program aims to promote sustainable agricultural practices across Virginia.
