The Field Empowerment Fund (FEF) empowers NCRC network members to level up established service lines.

The Housing Counseling Services series within FEF supports HUD-approved housing counseling agencies in driving homeownership, such as through pre-purchase counseling. In addition, the program builds agency knowledge on heirs’ property challenges to better equip first-time and low-income homebuying households with the know-how to retain intergenerational wealth.

In doing so, FEF-HCS aims to help underserved families begin their homeownership journey, with an additional goal of ensuring foresight into the long-term future of their home purchase.

The FEF-HCS series is funded in partnership with Key Bank and HSBC, and targets communities within the Key Bank and HSBC branch footprints.

Through these partnerships, $2.5 million in Key Bank geographies and $1.5 million in HSBC geographies has been allocated for the subgrants for direct-to-client housing counseling services that will be awarded in three rounds in the FEF-HCS track.

Funding Support

Awardee agencies will receive subgrants to support their housing counseling services to clients.

Awardee agencies will attend a training session on heirs’ property challenges and best practices, hosted by NCRC National Training Academy. These scholarships are aimed at high school seniors and college students from families directly involved in Washington's tree fruit industry. Recipients can pursue various degrees at accredited institutions, with specific qualifications for individual scholarships. This initiative fosters educational growth within the agricultural sector.

The Legal Foundation of Washington offers Race Equity Grants aimed at dismantling systemic racial oppression in civil legal aid. These grants provide multiyear funding to empower communities most affected by structural racism. Utilizing a participatory grantmaking approach, an advisory panel of community leaders reviews applications to ensure impactful projects are prioritized. Since inception, two-thirds of awards have gone to BIPOC-led organizations, reflecting a commitment to statewide equity in civil justice access.

Funded projects should demonstrate evidence-based practices that enhance resident welfare, with specific funding guidelines in place to ensure compliance with CMS standards. Notably, funds cannot be used for routine operational costs.

Funded by the Washington State Legislature, the Diversity in Local History (DLH) program awards grants for paid internships that support inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility (IDEA) initiatives at heritage organizations that increase the stories they tell and the communities they serve.Through a competitive process, the Washington State Historical Society provides grants up to $25,000 for projects that partner emerging professionals in the heritage sector with local history museums and historical societies. The Workplace Safety for Workers Affected by Climate Change Grant Program aims to enhance health and safety for workers impacted by climate change. This ongoing program focuses on providing essential resources for outdoor workers affected by extreme weather, including heat, flooding, and wildfire smoke. Grants will help purchase necessary equipment and cover distribution costs. Eligible participants include Federally Recognized Indian Tribes, with base awards of $15,151 per Tribe, ensuring vital support for affected communities.

The Washington Wildlife and Recreation Program offers funding aimed at enhancing outdoor recreation and conserving land across Washington State. This program supports various projects, including the development of parks, trails, and waterfront areas, as well as the restoration of state lands. Applicants must have a completed recreation or conservation plan to qualify for funding, ensuring that critical habitats and recreational spaces are preserved and made accessible to the growing population.

The Costume Society of America (CSA) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization founded on March 23, 1973, and incorporated in the state of New York on September 12, 1973. CSA serves it members, and promotes its goals with national symposia and publications including the journal Dress and its monthly electronic newsletter CSA e-News.

The organization began forming regional groups in 1978. There are six regional groups in the United States and Canada, and one international group. Individual regions hold annual meetings, sponsor programs and publish newsletters.

Jack Handford Summer Internship

The Western Region actively supports student members who show promise as new professionals and encourages institutions and students to apply for the Jack Handford Summer Internship offered every other year, i.e. 2026 and 2028. The internship is appropriate for students with majors such as costume studies, material culture, museum studies, fashion history, or similar. The internship is intended to average duration of six weeks or a total of 120 hours. The grant may change depending on the budget; the 2024 winner received $3,000.

We fund build-related projects and sponsor community events in Idaho, Oregon, and Washington. Applications for project grants and event sponsorships are accepted on a rolling basis and reviewed by our local giving committees. 

Grants are awarded in the $2,500-$10,000 range for construction repairs and infrastructure needs. Applicants must have 501(c)3 status.
