Scholarship Opportunities

Your Community, Your Support System

Our community members support hundreds of local students every year through various scholarships facilitated by the Community Foundation of the Mahoning Valley.

Established in memory of Melinda “Mindy” Henning.

The BNSF Railway Foundation provides grants to enhance community quality of life across 28 states, focusing on educational, cultural, and social service initiatives. With over $150 million contributed since 2000, the foundation emphasizes projects with strong local engagement and BNSF employee involvement. Eligible organizations include public charities, local governments, and tribal governments, while ineligible entities encompass religious organizations and those with discriminatory practices. Priority is given to environmental, health, and cultural projects.

The LCCF Mini Grants program, offered by the La Crosse Community Foundation, provides funding between $1,000 and $15,000 to nonprofit organizations in La Crosse County. With a total allocation of $100,000 for the year, the program seeks to support result-oriented projects that address community needs. Eligible organizations must be 501(c)(3) charities or have a fiscal sponsor and serve the local community, promoting engagement and social capital.

Theresa Alessandra Russo Foundation Inc

The Theresa Foundation honors the memory of Theresa Alessandra Russo by touching the lives of children with special needs and their families. The Foundation fosters each child’s unique abilities by supporting programs focusing on art, music, dance, drama, and recreation.

The Theresa Foundation has a vision of the world where artistic expression and physical recreation are just as important to adults as they are to children. We believe in a world where every child, regardless of ability or challenging conditions, is free to communicate through and participate in every art or recreational activity. A society without art is a society without soul. Art enables us to express our inner thoughts, fears, joys, and sadness.  

The Theresa Foundation Grant Program

The Theresa Foundation Grant Program is committed to providing financial support for programs in art, music, dance, drama, or recreation that are designed specifically for children with special needs in order to ensure that no one is excluded from these activities. 

We believe that every individual should have the opportunity to participate in art, music, dance, drama or recreation if they so choose. Our grant program works to provide direct funding for the success of these activities, while also promoting an environment of acceptance and inclusiveness where all can take part without judgment or fear. 

As of 2026, the Theresa Foundation has provided over $3,300,000 in grant funding for over 200 programs in 29 states throughout the country and 4 international grants. With your help we can continue to make a difference in the lives of those with special needs by providing them access to enriching experiences that would otherwise be out of reach. 

May Family Foundation

Eleanor Jean May established the May Family Foundation in 2000, as a gesture of gratitude to the communities that shaped her life. The May Family Foundation is dedicated to identifying programs that strongly resonate with our mission and values as we work together to empower and uplift lives within our communities.

Our foundation provides resources and opportunities that empower young individuals to thrive and reach their full potential. Our goal is to create a brighter future for under-resourced youth in our local communities.

May Family Foundation Mentoring Grant

Our foundation strives to be engaged in our local communities beyond grant funding. We support select programs that align with our goals and form a connection through potential volunteering opportunities, site visits, and recognition of successes.

We welcome grant applications for financial support in mentoring:

• Programs that pair students with adult mentors who provide guidance and support to help students succeed academically and develop important life skills.
• These can go beyond the classroom, such as sports and recreation enrichment programs.

The State Recreational Boating Safety (RBS) Grant Program, administered by the US Department of Homeland Security's U.S. Coast Guard, aims to enhance safety and enjoyment on America's waterways. This federal program provides grants to designated state agencies to reduce boating accidents, injuries, and fatalities. Although not open to the public, it plays a critical role in ensuring safe recreational boating experiences by implementing effective safety measures, thereby promoting public welfare and environmental protection.

The Rhinelander Community Foundation Grants aim to strengthen community organizations in the Rhinelander area by providing financial support for innovative projects. Grants are available for charitable organizations, educational institutions, and local units that benefit the public. The Foundation prioritizes initiatives that enhance the quality of life for residents and visitors, fostering collaboration and partnership. With grants up to $5,000, the Foundation is committed to sustaining the vibrancy of the Rhinelander community through philanthropy.

The JoLyn Beeman Memorial Children’s Fund Grant supports projects enriching children's lives in Rock County, focusing on education, recreation, sports, and the arts. Established in 1997, this Fund has funded numerous initiatives, including playground equipment, educational resources, and special education projects. Grants are available to teachers and leaders, with a maximum funding limit of $5,100. The Fund aims to enhance community engagement and provide meaningful experiences for children.

The Waunakee Community Foundation, established in 2004, aims to enhance the quality of life for residents in the Waunakee area by funding impactful projects. This private foundation supports charitable, educational, scientific, recreational, and literary initiatives that address community needs and foster collaboration. Organizations serving the Greater Waunakee Area, especially within the school district, are encouraged to apply, provided they uphold non-discrimination principles.

The State Park and Forest Heritage Trust Fund, established by the Wisconsin Legislature, provides grants to Friends Groups for maintaining state parks and forests. Eligible groups must be nonprofit organizations with an endowment fund. Grants cover operation, maintenance, and project costs that align with DNR-approved plans, promoting outdoor recreation and accessibility. Priority is given to projects enhancing interpretive programs and native plant restoration, with funding capped at $30,000 per year per property.

The CFDC Community Impact Grants aim to enhance the quality of life in Dunn County by supporting nonprofit organizations and community groups. These grants focus on various areas, including health, education, culture, and civic initiatives, providing funds for projects that address community needs. The foundation prioritizes innovative programs that serve a broad audience and demonstrate sustainability. By fostering collaboration, these grants help enrich the lives of local residents and promote long-term community benefits.

The Prescott Foundation supports community enrichment through grants for various sectors including education, arts, and environmental projects. Quarterly reviews occur every January, April, July, and October, with requests due four weeks prior. Eligible applicants include 501(c)(3) nonprofits, government units, and schools. However, grants are not awarded for routine expenses, endowments, or political causes. This commitment fosters a thriving Prescott community through targeted charitable giving.

The Somerset Community Foundation provides competitive grants to nonprofit programs and organizations that enhance life in Somerset. Focused on community needs, these grants aim to foster economic development, educational opportunities, and revitalization of public spaces. Eligible applicants include public charities, local government divisions, and schools. However, grants are not awarded for lobbying, individual support, or national fund drives. Only one grant per organization is permitted annually, ensuring broad community support.

The Dubuque Racing Association Core Grants aim to enhance community betterment through non-profit initiatives focused on population growth and tourism. These grants prioritize capacity building alongside material purchases, supporting organizations that align with the mission to foster economic vitality in the tri-state area. Eligible applicants include non-profits with specific IRS designations, emphasizing projects that strengthen local resources and improve quality of life while adhering to strict funding guidelines.

The Bernick's Beverages and Vending Fund Grants aim to support organizations that align with the Bernick family's values, offering up to $150,000 in funding for 8-10 eligible groups. Focus areas include youth education and fitness initiatives, with grants ranging from $5,000 to $40,000. Eligible applicants include 501(c)(3) nonprofits, schools, and government entities within Bernick's operational regions. The foundation seeks innovative programs that foster community engagement and promote healthy lifestyles.

The LCCF Micro Grants aim to support nonprofit organizations in La Crosse County by providing funding between $250 and $3,000 for innovative projects. With a total allocation of $70,000 for this year, the La Crosse Community Foundation encourages applications from groups enhancing community life. Applications are ongoing until funds are exhausted, with approval notifications expected within three weeks. This initiative promotes growth and improved strategies to meet local needs.

The LCCF Nonprofit Capacity Building Grant Program, funded by the La Crosse Community Foundation, aims to enhance the sustainability and effectiveness of nonprofit organizations in La Crosse County. With $300,000 available, grants of $50,000 to $90,000 will support infrastructure investments, especially for those addressing disparities in historically marginalized communities. This program emphasizes ongoing technical assistance, fostering partnerships, and sharing best practices among grantees to build a more equitable community.

Impact100 Greater Wausau is dedicated to empowering women philanthropists in Marathon County to support local nonprofits. By fostering a diverse and inclusive community, we aim to address critical needs in areas such as arts, education, health, and the environment. Our members collaborate to create lasting change, focusing on underserved populations and impactful initiatives that enhance the well-being of families and individuals in our area.

The Greater Cedarburg Foundation Grant supports initiatives that enhance the Cedarburg community's cultural heritage, artistic endeavors, and educational services. The foundation prioritizes projects that preserve local history, enrich artistic experiences, and provide diverse opportunities for community engagement. It does not fund lobbying, political purposes, or annual campaigns. First-time applicants must register and complete an organizational profile to be considered for funding. This grant aims to foster a vibrant community for future generations.

The Impact100 Global Veterans Awards empower women to make a significant difference by awarding grants up to $100,000 to nonprofits that serve veterans. Focus areas include art and culture, education, health and wellness, environment, and family initiatives, promoting the well-being and support of veterans across the United States. Eligible organizations must meet specific criteria, including tax-exempt status, and are encouraged to submit proposals that utilize funds effectively within two years.

The Eau Claire Community Foundation (ECCF) offers the ECCF Community Grant focusing on various areas including arts, education, environment, and social services. This grant aims to support programs that enhance community life, provide educational opportunities, and address essential needs for residents. Organizations located in the Eau Claire area or those demonstrating significant impact are encouraged to apply. The foundation prioritizes innovative proposals that foster collaboration and effectively respond to local needs.

The Tommy Wilson Memorial Grant, established by Dr. George T. Wilson and his wife Irene, honors their son Tommy, who had cerebral palsy. This grant supports recreational programs for individuals with disabilities and aims to positively impact their lives. Applicants must be nonprofit organizations with a successful history of programming for individuals with disabilities. The grant prioritizes programs serving economically disadvantaged individuals and may only fund applicants once every five years.

The Raibrook Foundation, celebrating 25 years of service, supports local non-profits in Door County to enhance community life through projects in education, history, and recreation. Founded in 1990 by a local philanthropist, the Foundation aims to preserve the area's natural beauty and cultural heritage. It prioritizes projects that foster community impact and acts as a partner in development. Nonprofit organizations, particularly those serving Nasewaupee, Sevastopol, and Sturgeon Bay, are encouraged to apply for funding.

The National Forest Foundation’s Collaborative Capacity Program offers financial support to enhance collaboration among local communities and partners, focusing on improving wildfire resilience and forest health. Grants range from $10,001 to $75,000, with a 20% cash or in-kind match requirement. The program aims to foster long-term stewardship outcomes for National Forest System lands, ensuring benefits to both forests and local economies through collaborative efforts.

The National Forest Foundation’s Collaborative Capacity Program offers financial awards to enhance collaboration among communities, tribes, and the Forest Service. Aimed at improving wildfire resilience and forest health, these grants support efforts that lead to long-term stewardship outcomes. Funding ranges from $10,001 to $75,000, with a 20% match required. The program seeks to empower local partners to develop strategic plans and strengthen collaborative initiatives, ultimately benefiting National Forest System lands.

The Mequon-Thiensville Community Foundation (MTCF) aims to enhance community quality of life by funding nonprofit initiatives with a lasting impact. Grants prioritize defined funding priorities, measurable outcomes, and projects benefiting seniors or children. Eligible applicants include tax-exempt organizations and government entities. MTCF avoids funding individuals, ongoing expenses, or projects outside its communities. Preference is given to projects that offer significant community benefits and long-term impact, enriching the lives of Mequon and Thiensville residents.

The Belmont Excellence in Education Fund, established in 2013, provides vital support to the Belmont Community School District, enhancing educational opportunities beyond budget limitations. This endowment fund, managed by a dedicated advisory board of local citizens, funds programming such as field trips and technology improvements, ensuring quality education for current and future generations. Additionally, it supports the Belmont Scholarship Fund, aiding graduating seniors in their pursuit of higher education.
