Friends of NRA is the National Rifle Association’s premier fundraising program, supporting the future of shooting sports. Since day one, Friends of NRA has been a 100% grassroots effort fueled by a united front to secure the Second Amendment and raise money for the shooting sports.

Committee volunteers are appointed to State Fund Committees to make recommendations for local grant funding in areas such as youth education, women-focused clinics, law enforcement training, hunter safety, range improvement, firearms and marksmanship training and safety. Recognizing the impact American youth has on the future of the shooting sports, State Fund Committees frequently recommend grants for youth programs, allocating the most significant portion of monies to this vital area.

Grant awards fund activities and support programs in the United States to promote firearms and hunting safety, to enhance marksmanship skills of those in the shooting sports, and to educate the public about firearms in their historic, technological and artistic context.

Friends of NRA State Fund Grant Program - North Dakota

The Friends of NRA State Fund Grant Program provides supplies, equipment, and financial support to a variety of qualified groups and programs at the local level; geared towards youth, women, law enforcement, veterans, the disabled, and the general public, including:

• General shooting programs
• Competitive shooting
• Education, training and safety
• Hunting and conservation
• Community outreach
• Historical education

Grant funding must be used to further a charitable purpose as defined by the Internal Revenue Code under section 501(c)(3) and accompanying rules, regulations, and other IRS law and materials.

Health systems, hospitals, FQHCs, and community-based health centers in the U.S., including North Dakota, can apply for Kaiser Permanente Advisory Services’ Center for Gun Violence Research and Education funding; awards Up to US $300,000 for research and capacity-building on healthcare approaches to preventing community gun violence and firearm suicide and improving care for survivors.

Nonprofit public charities with 501(c)(3) status working on national gun violence prevention, voting rights, or money-in-politics reforms can apply for democracy and civil liberties support from the Lisa & Douglas Goldman Fund. Projects must operate across the U.S., so North Dakota–based organizations may be eligible if their work spans multiple states.

Focused on gun violence prevention, Everytown for Gun Safety invites North Dakota students personally impacted by gun violence to join its Survivor Fellowship Program. Eligible applicants must be at least 18 and enrolled in high school, college, or graduate school, receiving a year of advocacy and leadership training to share their stories and promote safer communities.

Women leaders in competitive shooting, hunting ethics, or recreational shooting across the U.S. who have advanced firearms education or Second Amendment advocacy may be eligible for this national recognition award. The NRA Foundation honors nominees whose volunteer service, public education, or meritorious defensive firearm use has had significant national impact, which may intersect with community safety and gun violence prevention efforts in North Dakota.

Universities, healthcare systems, and research-focused organizations in the U.S., including North Dakota, can seek Kaiser Permanente’s Category 1 support to build capacity for firearm injury and suicide research. Focused on healthcare-based gun violence prevention, this funding helps develop infrastructure, partnerships, and systems to design, conduct, and scale effective clinical and health system interventions.

Healthcare institutions, research organizations, and eligible partners conducting gun violence prevention research in North Dakota and across the U.S. can apply for Kaiser Permanente’s Category 2 pilot or formative healthcare research grants, with awards up to US $250,000. Grants support evidence-informed healthcare practices and clinical care models addressing firearm violence and firearm suicide, especially in highly impacted communities.

With a mission to prevent firearm-related injuries and deaths, universities, research institutions, and similar organizations in North Dakota and nationwide can seek CDC support to rigorously evaluate innovative gun violence prevention strategies. Grants up to US $650,000 fund studies using existing or newly collected data, including evaluations of interventions, defensive gun use, and community-level approaches.

In the wake of tragic mass events, such as shooting, speed matters. Our Rapid Response Grants provide expedited funding to victims and their families when time is of the essence. These grants ensure that families aren’t left waiting for critical support when they need it most.

The BJA FY 2026 Local Law Enforcement Crime Gun Intelligence Center Integration Initiative aims to support law enforcement agencies in establishing and expanding Crime Gun Intelligence Centers (CGICs). This initiative encourages interagency collaboration for the effective management and analysis of crime gun evidence, enhancing the ability to swiftly identify crime guns and their sources. In partnership with the ATF, this program seeks to reduce firearm-related crime and improve prosecution outcomes.

The Preventing Violence Affecting Young Lives (PREVAYL 2.0) initiative aims to provide multiyear funding for state and local health departments to implement violence prevention strategies for adolescents and young adults. Key focuses include enhancing data-driven decision-making, building capacity for evidence-based strategies, integrating youth mental health support, fostering multisector collaborations, and prioritizing the prevention of various forms of violence, ensuring comprehensive support for youth development.

501(c)(3) public charities working to strengthen the Jewish community and combat antisemitism, discrimination against Israel, or gun violence can apply for invitation-only support from the Lisa & Douglas Goldman Fund; awards fund projects in the San Francisco Bay Area or national initiatives. Organizations in North Dakota may be eligible if their work is implemented nationally.
