Dennis Friends Foundation

Our Foundation was set up by Dennis to encourage and promote mutually beneficial relationships between people and dogs. His greatest wish was to do what he could to make sure that all dogs are given a chance to live happy lives. To him, that meant, if at all possible, that they live in a home where they are loved, where they can play, where there is no lack of food or care. He hoped for situations where people and pets provide fulfillment of each others needs whether they are emotional, physical or both. His greatest joy was owning dogs and he abhorred animal neglect. We call the foundation the Dennis Friends Foundation in honor of the friendship we had with Dennis, and the friendships with our dogs.

The founder's devotion to his dogs, and his strong belief in the importance of a proper animal-to-human match, resulted in the generous bequest that forms the corpus of our grant resources. It is to be used, per Dennis’ instructions, for the care and welfare of dogs, cats and horses. 

Dennis Friends Foundation Grant

The mission of the Dennis Friends Foundation is to fund initiatives that promote, support, and provide for the effective, loving, compassionate well-being of dogs, cats and horses. DFF limits grants geographically, and programs must serve New Mexico, Colorado or the District of Columbia.

DFF funds programs that promote a focused goal of keeping animals at home with their loving families. Applications should include program metrics used by the organization to measure success. Programs and/or projects should fit into one of the following four categories:

• Spay and Neuter
• Services for Emergency Veterinary, Food, and Care Services
• Programs that Support Humane Animal and Human Bonds
• Animal Services Organizational Planning and Capacity Building

The Lucille Drinkwater Allen Trust Grant supports the care of neglected and homeless domestic animals, particularly dogs, in Colorado. Established by Mrs. Lucille Drinkwater Allen's will, the trust aims to alleviate suffering and ensure animals can live their full lives without the threat of euthanasia. Funding is directed towards organizations that align with this mission, focusing on the welfare of animals and promoting their well-being in the community.

The Sunstate Equipment Foundation Grants support local charities focused on disadvantaged individuals, medical aid, housing assistance, domestic violence awareness, military and veterans' assistance, and care for abused animals. Founded in 2015, the foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that matches employee contributions dollar for dollar, reinforcing its commitment to community support and engagement. Charities in good standing can apply once every 12 months, fostering impactful initiatives where Sunstate operates.

The Animal Assistance Foundation provides annual grants to organizations in Colorado dedicated to enhancing the welfare of companion animals. Eligible applicants must be 501(c)(3) non-profits or government entities, actively serving local animals and demonstrating a commitment to community collaboration. The foundation aims to support initiatives that align with its mission of fostering responsible animal care and welfare, thus ensuring better lives for pets across the state.

The AAF Capital Grants program supports Colorado animal welfare organizations seeking over $100,000 for long-term projects that enhance the lives of shelter animals and provide community services. Eligible applicants must be 501(c)(3) entities with a history of funding from the Animal Assistance Foundation, demonstrating community commitment and collaboration. Grants are limited to organizations improving the quality of life for animals, ensuring sustainability and long-term impact within their communities.

The Sally Beck Fund, managed by the El Pomar Foundation, supports nonprofit organizations dedicated to equine rescue, care, and therapeutic riding. Grants aim to enhance equine welfare, particularly for those with 501(c)(3) status. However, funds cannot be allocated for capital improvements or staffing overhead. The application process occurs biannually, ensuring consistent support for these vital equine-related initiatives.

The ASPCA is offering up to $14 million in Spay/Neuter Grants for shelters and clinics across the U.S. to enhance spay/neuter services for vulnerable animals. Proposals can address critical infrastructure needs and major capital projects to increase spay/neuter capacity. Only one application per organization is permitted, and applicants must choose one funding category. The focus is on compelling proposals that meet the most urgent needs.

The Canine Healthcare Fund Grant provides vital medical coverage for SDF-trained canines throughout their lives, ensuring they receive top-notch veterinary care at no expense to their handlers or agencies. Additionally, it extends support to non-SDF-trained handlers of active and retired disaster search canines, covering veterinary costs for wellness, illness, and injury not funded by their organizations. Each handler may receive up to $1,000 annually to help manage these essential healthcare expenses.

The Morris Animal Foundation invites proposals for the Feline Health Fellowship Training Award, aimed at advancing the health and welfare of domesticated cats. This program supports new investigators by providing salary funds in a mentoring environment. Proposals should focus on hypothesis-driven research with high scientific merit, targeting community and pet cats (Felis catus). Eligible expenses must be utilized within three months, and reimbursement requests will not be accepted.

2026 ASPCA Grants for Shelters and Spay/Neuter Clinics

The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals® (ASPCA®) is offering up to $14 million in grants to support shelters and spay/neuter clinics in meeting the needs of vulnerable animals throughout the United States, including addressing the shortfall in available spay/neuter surgeries. We will fund qualified proposals that support:

• Critical shelter infrastructure
• Strengthening shelter essentials
• Increasing the number of spay/neuter surgeries year-over-year 
• Major capital projects that increase spay/neuter capacity
• Special projects that increase spay/neuter capacity
